  • Coordinated control of MPPT and voltage regulation using single-stage high gain DC–DC converter in a grid-connected PV system

    摘要: In general, grid-connected PV system uses two stages of DC-DC converter to accomplish Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) and DC voltage regulation. In order to overcome the two stage conversion, a single stage high gain DC-DC converter is presented in this paper. The operation of three switches with two different duty ratio is the main advantage of this converter to accomplish the coordinated control of MPPT and DC voltage regulation. This coordinated control also helps to provide constant DC voltage to the DC loads though the inverter is disconnected from the DC bus. A 1KW grid-connected PV system with the proposed DC-DC converter is developed and is validated using OP4500 Real-Time test platform. In addition, a decoupled control strategy with fractional order proportional-integral (FOPI) controller is implemented at the inverter end. Also, the reactive power compensation, harmonic reduction (less than 5% as per the IEEE 519 standard) and the grid power factor close to unity is obtained and the results are validated using the real-time simulator.

    摘要: The development of PV-systems has increased due to the high demand for clean energy. Used worldwide in the distributed power generation markets, the photovoltaic energy must not only be maximized, but also adapted to the global standards on harmonic emissions towards the power utility. Hence, the tracking of the maximum power point and the harmonic filtering becomes necessary. A three-phase single stage grid-connected Photovoltaic system consisting of a photovoltaic array and a three-phase PWM inverter coupled through the LCL-filter to the electrical grid is studied in this paper. A new control design is developed to maximize power in the side of PV panels and to ensure a unit power factor at the grid side. Grid synchronization is provided by a three-phase PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) and the closed-loop stability is demonstrated using Lyapunov analysis. Simulation results clearly illustrate that the proposed controller has achieved all of its objectives. In order to demonstrate the performance of the LCL-filter in minimizing the harmonics produced by the photovoltaic inverter, the frequency response of the injected currents was compared to that obtained using a simple L-filter.

    摘要: State-space current control enables high dynamic performance of a three-phase grid-connected converter equipped with an LCL filter. In this paper, observer-based state-space control is designed using direct pole placement in the discrete-time domain and in grid-voltage coordinates. Analytical expressions for the controller and observer gains are derived as functions of the physical system parameters and design specifications. The connection between the physical parameters and the control algorithm enables automatic tuning. Parameter sensitivity of the control method is analyzed. The experimental results show that the resonance of the LCL filter is well damped, and the dynamic performance specified by direct pole placement is obtained for the reference tracking and grid-voltage disturbance rejection.

  • L vs. LCL Filter for Photovoltaic Grid-Connected Inverter: A Reliability Study

    摘要: The increasing use of photovoltaic systems entails the use of new technologies to improve the efficiency and power quality of the grid. System performance is constantly increasing, but its reliability decreases due to factors such as the uncontrolled operation, the quality of the design and quantity of components, and the use of nonlinear loads that may lead to distortion in the signal, which directly affects the life of the system globally. This article presents an analysis of the reliability of a single-phase full-bridge inverter for active power injection into the grid, which considers the inverter stage with its coupling stage. A comparison between an L filter and an LCL filter, which comprise the coupling stage, is made. Reliability prediction is based on metrics, failure rate, mean time between failures, and total harmonic distortion. The analysis and numerical simulation are performed. Finally, filter considerations are suggested to extend the reliability of the inverter in a photovoltaic system.

  • Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System Stability Enhancement Using Ant Lion Optimized Model Reference Adaptive Control Strategy

    摘要: An inductive-capacitive-inductive (LCL) type filters are broadly utilized in grid-connected voltage source inverters (VSIs) since they can give substantially improved attenuation of switching harmonics in currents injected into the grid with lower cost, weight and power losses than their L and LC type counterparts. This paper discusses an improved model reference adaptive control (MRAC) strategy for designing the control parameters to voltage source converter and improves stability of photovoltaic (PV) generation in different grid capabilities. An improved damping strategy is commonly referred to as MRAC, which has been developed using the proportional resonant (PR) controller and its gain parameters are optimized by Ant Lion optimization (ALO) algorithm. The error elimination at steady-state and gain at particular frequency were provided by the PR current controller. The main focus is set on the mathematical modelling of grid-connected PV, LCL filter and PR current controller and its parameters specifically, resonant and proportional gains. Further, the phase margin and gain of the controller transfer function are presented by means of bode plot to evaluate the operating condition of the controller for different gain parameters. Moreover, a large number of control strategies are mandatory for optimizing the controller parameters and to stabilize the system with zero steady-state error. The obtained results of improved MRAC strategy is presented and its effectiveness is compared with some existing controllers.

    摘要: Photovoltaic arrays have high parasitic capacitance between positive/negative poles and earth. Therefore, conventional single-phase full bridge inverters with unipolar modulation are not suitable for applications in photovoltaic inverters because they have leakage currents higher than the limits acceptable by the standards. Additionally, high common mode currents tend to result in electromagnetic noise of significant magnitude. This paper proposes an integrated methodology for common and differential mode filter design for single phase full-bridge photovoltaic topology with a LCL filter. The differential mode filter is designed to meet the constraints of harmonic current distortion, while the common mode filter is designed to suit the ripple of common mode current and the filter quality factor to the design constraints. Simulation results show that the proposed methodology is simple and effective.

  • A Multifunctional Single Phase Grid Integrated Residential Solar PV Systems based on LQR Control

    摘要: This paper presents a multifunctional single-stage residential photovoltaic power supply based on Linear Quadratic Regulator. The system makes use of a single phase power converter connected to the grid through an LCL filter. A robust LQRI controller is designed to incorporate added functions such as power line conditioner, active power regulator, and voltage stabilizer. The perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is used to generate the reference signal for the fluctuating DC bus voltage as well as to extract the maximum power from the solar panels. Full modeling of the converter in the D-Q reference frame is presented. A Linear Quadratic Regulator with added Integral action (LQRI) is designed to achieve optimal multi-functionality operation of the residential power supply. Simulation and experimental results confirm the expected performance of the proposed controller for insolation and load variations.

  • Direct grid-side current model predictive control for grid-connected inverter with LCL filter

    摘要: On control of the grid-connected inverter (GCI) with LCL filter, the inverter-side current model predictive control is adopted conventionally. The ultimate grid-side current is controlled indirectly by control of inverter-side current. The ideal scenario is that grid-side current is directly controlled. However, the conventional control model is complicated and the calculation is heavy. This study proposed a novel direct grid-side current model predictive control (GSC-MPC) for GCI with LCL filter. Based on timing coordination of both forward and backward difference methods, a direct connection is established between the grid-side output current and the inverter-side output voltage. Meanwhile, a proper mathematical model is built for an improved model predictive control. The exact required voltage vector in the next sampling interval is predicted and calculated by this model. The output optimal voltage vector is modulated by space vector pulse width modulation technique to control the inverter. Furthermore, the proposed GSC-MPC is rather robust to parameter variation. Simulation and experimental results present that the proposed GSC-MPC can improve the current control performance effectively for GCI with LCL filter.
