  • Effect of operational parameters on the photocatalytic degradation of Methylene blue dye solution using manganese doped ZnO nanoparticles

    摘要: Photocatalytic degradation of aqueous solution of methylene blue dye under UV light illumination was studied by using manganese doped ZnO (Zn1-xMnxO, where x = 0.00, x = 0.02 and x = 0.05) nanoparticles as a photocatalyst. The nanophotocatalysts were synthesized by wet chemical co-precipitation method. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the photocatalysts were done by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX), photoluminescence (PL), Fourier Transform Infrared Ray (FTIR) and UV- visible spectroscopic techniques. An improved photocatalytic efficiency of ZnO was observed upon doping with Mn and 2% Mn-doped ZnO exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity among the doped samples. The effect of operating parameters such as amount of catalyst, the initial dye concentration, and initial pH on the rate of dye degradation using 2% Mn-doped ZnO was studied. Under the optimum operation conditions, approximately 99% of dye removal was achieved after 120 min of irradiation.

  • Structural, optical and photocatlytic properties of zinc oxide nanoparticles obtained by simple plant extract mediated synthesis

    摘要: We report a facile and inexpensive method to prepare zinc oxide nanoparticles with different particle size and shape using Achyranthes aspera and Couroupita guianensis leaf extracts as the reducing agent and zinc nitrate as a precursor. The prepared zinc oxide nanoparticles were analyzed by various characterization methods and obtained results evidently revealed that crystalline parameter, purity, optical absorption, band gap, particle size and shape of the ZnO nanoparticles significantly influenced by the type of leaf extract used as reducing agent. Further, photocatlytic activity study obviously demonstrates that prepared samples exhibits superior photocatlytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue dye by creating superoxide anion radicals and OH radicals under photonic irradiation. Hence, prepared zinc oxide nanoparticles by plant extract mediated synthesis can be applied as a photocatlyst for the possible waste water treatment in textile industry.

  • Synthesis, Characterization,and Photocatalytic activity of Silver nanoparticledoped Phosphomolybdic acid supportedZirconia

    摘要: An ecofriendly solid acid catalyst was synthesized by impregnating phosphomolybdic acid on zirconia followed by doping with Silver nanoparticles to form composite. We report here, the synthesis, characterization and photocatalytic behavior of AgNPs doped Keggin Ions/ Zirconia which is synthesized by wet impregnation method. The resulting nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of the catalyst was evaluated for the degradation of azo dye under the Visible light irradiation. In the photoreaction study, it is found that photocatalytic activity increases by doping the noble metal silver nanoparticles on PMA/ZrO2 surface to form the composite.

  • Applying facilely synthesized CuO/CeO <sub/>2</sub> photocatalyst to accelerate methylene blue degradation in hypersaline wastewater

    摘要: Textile and dye effluents have strong color, unstable pH and COD, a lot of inorganic salt, and high biotoxicity. It is difficult and inefficient to remove dyes from high‐saline wastewater by traditional methods. In this study, a simple synthetic CuO/CeO2 photocatalyst is used to achieve high efficiency photodegradation of methylene blue in high salt wastewater. The p‐type CuO/n‐type CeO2 heterojunction photocatalyst is synthesized by a modified hydrothermal‐calcination method. The XRD and XPS reveal the successful synthesis of CuO/CeO2 composite. The SEM and TEM images show that the sample consists of large amounts of well‐dispersed CuO nanosphere loading on the CeO2 layers. DRS exhibits the absorption band (about 510 nm) and the band gap energy (2.43 eV) of the CuO/CeO2 composite. Compared with pure CuO, CeO2, and TiO2 (P25), the prepared CuO/CeO2 can increase the mineralization rate of MB by 18.19%~33.74%. More than 80% of MB can be effectively removed in the wastewater containing 5~80 g/L NaCl with a wide pH value range of 2.11~9.02, and the degradation processes follow the pseudofirst‐order reaction kinetics. Active species trapping experiments confirm that the degradation of methylene blue is mainly attributed to hydroxyl radical; besides, O2?? and hole (h+) also play important roles. Chlorine ions have dual effects in photocatalytic reactions. This work could provide a new approach to construct new heterojunction photocatalysts and a deeper insight for the treatment of hypersaline dye wastewater.

  • Photocatalytic Performance on Visible Light Induced ZnS QDs-MgAl Layered Double Hydroxides Hybrids for Methylene Blue Dye Degradation

    摘要: Semiconductor hybrids based photocatalytic reaction is one of the prominent methods to treat wastewater, containing the organic pollutants. In the present work, we report the development of ZnS QDs-LDH hybrid structure for the photocatalytic treatment of methylene blue (MB) dye. The as-synthesized ZnS QDs-LDH hybrid structure was characterized by XRD, FESEM, HRTEM, EDX, XPS, and FTIR to analyze the formation, morphology and chemical structure. The UV-Vis DRS was used to investigate the optical absorption characteristics of the ZnS QDs-LDH hybrid. The photocatalytic performance of the as-prepared samples was investigated against the methylene blue dye molecule under UV-Vis light irradiation. The scavenging experiments were carried out in order to probe the radical formation by using EDTA, benzoquinone, and 2-proponal. The cycling experiments were performed to check the stability of the ZnS QDs-LDH hybrid photocatalyst after repeated photodegradation experiments.
