    摘要: The levels of toxic gases are increasing enormously in the atmosphere, thereby causing adverse effects on the health of all living beings. There are various toxic gases like ammonia, oxides of nitrogen etc., which have to be detected and eliminated even if present in minute concentrations. Metal oxide based sensors is a sought-after technology for various reasons. In this paper, we present a method of detecting ammonia gas using titanium oxide nanowire based gas sensor. The basic principle of operation was adsorption of gas on to the sensing substance. This happens only at elevated temperatures which are provided by a micro hotplate. The aim was to increase the sensitivity of the sensor and to reduce the power consumption. Surface resistance, which varies due to interactions of gas and oxide, was taken as a measure to calculate the concentration in the ambience of sensor. COMSOL multiphysics tool was used for the performance analysis of the sensor.

  • Thermal design management of highly mechanically stable wavelength shifter using photonic crystal waveguide

    摘要: A thermally tunable device based on photonic crystal waveguide integrated with the micro-hotplate on its surface is proposed. A design strategy for modelling of temperature and stress in the MHP is investigated for providing robustness and high mechanical stability in the reconfigurable device. The required temperature is obtained under stress elongation fatigue limit for thermal tuning applications in optical devices. The performance parameters like confinement factor, wavelength transfer coefficient and extinction ratio are obtained as 78.2%, 0.086 nm/K and 30.04 dB respectively with an excess loss of only 0.20 dB. The response-time in the optimized device is 12 μs for achieving the switching spectral shift of 26 nm in the transmission spectrum of PCW. The reconfigurable device platform offers a great potential for wide range of tuning in switches and filters applications

    摘要: This work designed a micro-hotplate for micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) based gas sensor, in which the heating electrode and the test electrode are placed on the same plane. The micro-hotplate with four pins was optimized the finite element analysis method. The heating electrode and test electrode were made of platinum. The working temperature of heating electrode was controlled by the voltage linear of heating electrode and calibrated through the resistance-temperature characteristic curve and relation curve of voltage and resistance. Infrared thermography microscope directly observed the temperature distribution of the heating electrode at different voltages. The micro-hotplate was used for ethanol detecting based on SnO2 nanosheets and the response reached at 21.4 in 100 ppm ethanol gas.
