摘要: The Sun gives us PW’s free of charge renewable energy, which can be converted into electricity by photovoltaic panels or into heat by sun collectors. Algorithm and hardware block diagram of single axis solar tracker are made in this paper. Also a comparison is made between a single axis solar tracking photo voltaic system and a fixed one. One axis solar tracking system gets average up to 30% more solar energy in comparison with the static one.

摘要: In most developing countries like Nigeria, the demand for electrical energy outweighs the supply. Negative economic and environmental impacts are also associated with its generation, transmission, and consumption. As a result there is need for the available energy to be efficiently managed. This project designed and implemented a microcontroller based energy saver and management system. The design of the energy saver and management system was aimed at coordinating the manner of use of electrical appliances, thereby reducing energy consumption in electrical appliances (such as fan and light) and devising a means of reducing the need for human intervention in the control of electrical appliances in a residential building. The project consists of a PIC microcontroller that utilizes a PIR sensor to detect occupants’ presence in the building; it also has a light intensity detection unit used to determine the level of ambient lighting as well as a temperature sensor to determine ambient temperature. The control signal from the microcontroller was used to operate the load driver circuit to switch the appliances on or off. The results show that the designed system can reduce the level of energy consumption effectively and efficiently.

Detection of Driver Drowsiness using Eye Blink Sensor
摘要: Accidents due to driver drowsiness can be prevented using eye blink sensors. The driver is supposed to wear the eye blink sensor frame throughout the course of driving and blink has to be for a couple of seconds to detect drowsiness. Any random changes in steering movement leads to reduction in wheel speed. The threshold of the vibration sensor can be varied and accordingly action can be taken. The outcome is that the vibrator attached to eye blink sensor’s frame vibrates if the driver falls asleep and also the LCD displays the warning messages. The wheel is slowed or stopped depending on the condition. This is accompanied by the owner being notified through the GSM module, so the owner can retrieve the driver’s location, photograph and police station list near to driver’s location. This is how the driver can be alerted during drowsiness and the owner can be notified simultaneously

High Voltage Gain Three Coupled Winding DC-DC Interleaved Boost Converter with Arduino Microcontroller for the PV Panel Control
摘要: In many applications, high-step converters are widely used, including powered vehicles, Photovoltaic (PV) systems, continuous power supplies, Gas lighting and fuel cell systems. The most important requirements in the energy conversion process are reliability, quality, maintenance and size reduction. This paper presents an Interleaved Boost Converter (IBC) to raise voltage gain with three coupled winding. This converter consists of three pairs of coupled inductors to collect energy in parallel and release energy to the series load, which provides a much higher output load voltage than the traditional DC-DC boost converter. To validate the performance, an investigation was introduced by means of steady state analysis and operation. The operation modes and mathematical analysis are presented. Arduino UNO microcontroller was used to implement Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) gate drive based on Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT). The DC-DC IBC with High Voltage Gain (HVG) produces low voltage stress across switches, low input and output current ripple, and also improves the efficiency. These features made this converter suitable for applications where a high voltage gain is demanded. This converter was tested using Matlab/Simulink to validate the performance in terms of input and output ripples. The results supported the mathematical analysis. The cancelation of the ripple in input and output voltages has significantly detected. The ripple amplitude is reducing in DC-DC HVG IBC comparing with traditional DC-DC boost converter, and the ripple frequency is doubled. This tends to reduce the output filter losses, and size. Also improves the efficiency of the converter.

Experimental Assessment of a Smart Sun Tracking System Consumption for the Improvement of a Crystalline Silicon Photovoltaic Module Performance under Variable Weather Conditions
摘要: Sun tracking systems are often used to improve the performance of crystalline silicon photovoltaic plants. However, their power consumption still remains a challenge till date. In this paper, a low power consumption sun tracking system has been implemented for driving a crystalline silicon photovoltaic module under variable weather conditions. The experimental results showed that this sun follower consumes less than 1% of the increased energy. Taking into account the tracker consumption, the energy gain can attain up to 25% under the same weather conditions compared to a fixed photovoltaic system. In addition to that, results gotten from data-based simulations are coherent with experimental results.

摘要: This project is focused on taking advantage of the light reflection in order to illuminate a dark room. In order to achieve this objective, a prototype was developed, which consists of a mirror mounted on a base with capabilities of rotating in the X and Y axis, a sensor that allows to know in which direction the sun is located and the necessary program code to maintain the illumination spot in the same position in a room, despite the movement of the sun through the day. Data was obtained through measurements, which allows to conclude that the energy invested in the prototype is lower than the energy needed to illuminate that room.

DALI LED Driver Control System for Lighting Operations Based on Raspberry Pi and Kernel Modules
摘要: Light emitting diodes (LEDs) as an efficient low-consumption lighting technology are being used increasingly in many applications. The move to LED lighting is also changing the way the lighting control systems are designed. Currently, most electronic ballasts and other digital lighting devices implement the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) standard. This paper presents a low-cost, low-power effective DALI LED driver controller, based on open-source Raspberry Pi3 microcontroller prototyping platform. The control software is developed as a Linux kernel module under UBUNTU 18.04.2 LTS patched with PREEMPT_RT (Preemptive Real-time) for real-time processing. This dynamically loaded kernel module performs all the processing, communication and control operations of the Raspberry Pi3-based DALI controller with the DALI LED driver and LED luminaire. Software applications written in C and Python were developed for performance testing purposes. The experimental results showed that the proposed system could efficiently and effectively manage DALI LED drivers and perform lighting operations (e.g., dimming). The system can be used for a variety of purposes from personal lighting control needs and experimental research in control of electronic ballasts and other control gears, devices and sensors, to advanced requirements in professional buildings, including energy management, lighting maintenance and usage.

Polymer Optical Fiber-Based Respiratory Sensors: Various Designs and Implementations
摘要: This research discusses the polymer optical ?ber sensor for respiratory measurements. The infrared LED that produces light will propagate along the polymer optical ?ber which will be received by the phototransistor and the di?erential ampli?er. The output voltage in the form of an analog signal will be converted to a digital signal by the Arduino Uno microcontroller and displayed on the computer. The polymer optical ?ber sensor is installed on the corset using a variety of con?guration (straight, sinusoidal, and spiral), placed in the abdomen, and a variety of positions (abdomen, chest, and back) using only a spiral con?guration. While doing the inspiration, the stomach will be enlarged so that the optical ?ber sensor will have strain. The strain will cause loss of power, the resulting light intensities received by the phototransistor are reduced, and the output voltage on the computer decreases. The result shows that the highest voltage amplitudes were in the spiral con?guration placed in the abdominal position for slow respiration measurements with the highest range, sensitivity, and resolution which are 0.119 V, 0.238 V/s, and 0.004 s, respectively. The advantages of our work are emphasized on measurement system simplicity, low cost, easy fabrication, and handy operation and can be connected with the Arduino Uno microcontroller and computer.

Arduino Based Traffic Light System With Integrated LED Advertising Display
摘要: Rapid advancement in scientific knowledge and growth in worldwide economic activities has led to a steep rise in the volume of vehicular activity for human and product mobility controls hence in addition to controllers are, therefore, a critical necessity of the modern – day society. Toward this end, this paper is aimed toward the design of microcontroller-based traffic control device taking as a case study the complex layout and linkage among the service roads of the Senate building and College of Science and Technology, Covenant University, Nigeria. The Arduino platform is the microcontroller preference for this idea. Also, to make this idea more effective and productive, a Light Emitting Diode (LED) advertising displays has been incorporated into its implementation to take advantage of the red light wait time to disseminate useful information or facts.

摘要: The use of LEDs as photodetectors has been subject of study for a long time. However, LEDs manufacturers do not provide information about the response of LEDs to the light. It is essential for the designers of electronic devices to know what the behavior of LEDs is so as to develop new applications in this area. In this work, we propose the use of commercially off-the-shelf LEDs, illuminated by the flashlight of a smartphone, as a contactless wake-up system for microcontrollers that are in a sleep mode. In particular, the generated LED voltage is proposed as the wake-up signal. So, in order to choose the most suitable LED and depending of the main interfering light, the current- voltage (I-V) characterization of different kind of LEDs is performed for two scenarios: outdoors and indoors. It is demonstrated that placing a resistor in parallel with the LEDs allows a better discrimination between the LED voltage coming from the flashlight and that from the interfering lights. Results show that red and blue LEDs are more appropriate for outdoor and indoor applications, respectively.
