  • All-fiber short-pulse vortex laser with adjustable pulse width

    摘要: A laser with short pulse width and direct output of a vortex beam was reported herein. This laser was fabricated from a nonlinear loop mirror (NOLM) and a coupler composed of a single mode fiber and few-mode fiber fused together. The NOLM is responsible for generating pulses, and the coupler acts as a beam splitter and mode converter. Two stable vortex modes can be formed by adjusting the polarization controller, whose pulse widths are 1.098 ps and 542 fs, respectively.

  • 178 fs, 1.2 nJ pulses from an all-polarization maintaining fiber figure 8 laser based on 3 ?? 3 coupler at 1 <i>??</i> m

    摘要: We report on an Yb-doped all-polarization maintaining fiber mode-locked laser based on nonlinear-amplifying-loop mirror and 3 × 3 coupler. Thanks to this coupler inducing a non-reciprocal phase-bias, the mode-locked regime can be easily achieved at the high repetition rate of 52 MHz. The cavity delivers an average power of 62 mW corresponding to a pulse energy of 1.2 nJ. We have finally demonstrated an extra-cavity nonlinear spectral stage induced by the propagation along a standard nonlinear fiber. The pulse can be then compressed down to 178 fs via a grating compressor and the corresponding peak power is then around 6 kW.

  • Conventional solitons and bound-state solitons in an erbium-doped fiber laser mode-locked by TiSe2-based saturable absorber

    摘要: Conventional solitons (CSs) as well as bound-state solitons in a passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser based on 1T-phase titanium diselenide (1T-TiSe2) saturable absorber (SA) have been systematically demonstrated for the first time. The mode locker is assembled by sandwiching the 1T-TiSe2 film between two fiber ferrules to improve compatibility with the all-fiber-integrated ring cavity configuration. The modulation depth, saturation intensity and nonsaturable loss of the prepared 1T-TiSe2 SA are 14.36 %, 1.33 MW/cm2 and 9.44 %, respectively. The system, by means of carefully adjusting the orientations of the polarization controller (PC), is switchable between two states: CS and bound-state CS. In the CS mode-locked regime, the oscillating wavelength is centered at 1558.294 nm with a pulse duration of 1.74 ps, a pulse repetition rate of 3.23 MHz and a maximum average output power of 2.904 mW, respectively. In the bound-state CS regime, two identical solitons form the bound-state pulses with a temporal separation of 6.1 ps, and the bound-state pulses are equally distributed at a repetition rate of 3.23 MHz, corresponding to the fundamental cavity repetition rate. The experimental results further indicate that 1T-TiSe2 SA is competitive to the existing SAs explored so far and will promote the applications of 1T-TiSe2-based SAs in the field of ultrafast lasers.

  • Generation of J-shaped pulses in ultra-long Ytterbium doped mode locked fiber laser

    摘要: We report, for the first time, generation of J-shaped pulses in figure-eight type ultra-long, all-normal dispersion Ytterbium-doped fiber laser mode locked by the combined effect of nonlinear polarization evolution and nonlinear optical loop mirror. Cavity birefringence based spectral filtering introduced by polarization controllers is used for the formation of J-shaped as well as step-like and flat-top pulses. The shape and duration of generated pulse is found to depend on applied birefringence as well as pump power. J-shaped pulses of 180 ns duration and 332 nJ pulse energy at 201.45 kHz fundamental repetition rate are generated at 200 mW pump power. Experimentally, a strong correlation between spectral and temporal profile of the generated pulse shapes is established where it has been shown that asymmetric spectral filtering is responsible for generation of J-shaped and step-like pulses. Numerically, the spectral transmission of figure-eight type resonator under different cavity birefringence and intra-cavity power is investigated which qualitatively supports the experimental results.

  • Sub-nanosecond multiple-wavelength harmonic mode-locked Tm-Ho co-doped fiber laser

    摘要: We demonstrate an all-fiber sub-nanosecond passively mode-locked Tm-Ho co-doped fiber laser. With 1.1-km single-mode fiber (SMF) inserted into the cavity, the laser system can generate 183.4-kHz and 720-ps pulses based on a GaAs saturable absorber (SA). The output spectrum is presented with three wavelengths, which are at 1858.5, 1861.3, and 1864.2 nm, respectively. In addition, with the adjustment of the polarization controller and pump power, the multiple-pulse operation, such as the harmonic mode-locking operation, can also be observed. Higher order of harmonic mode locking is promising but limited by the damage threshold of the SA.

  • Towards visible-wavelength passively mode-locked lasers in all-fibre format

    摘要: Mode-locked fibre lasers (MLFLs) are fundamental building blocks of many photonic systems used in industrial, scientific and biomedical applications. To date, 1–2 μm MLFLs have been well developed; however, passively mode-locked fibre lasers in the visible region (380–760 nm) have never been reported. Here, we address this challenge by demonstrating an all-fibre visible-wavelength passively mode-locked picosecond laser at 635 nm. The 635 nm mode-locked laser with an all-fibre figure-eight cavity uses a Pr/Yb codoped ZBLAN fibre as the visible gain medium and a nonlinear amplifying loop mirror as the mode-locking element. First, we theoretically predict and analyse the formation and evolution of 635 nm mode-locked pulses in the dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) regime by solving the Ginzburg-Landau equation. Then, we experimentally demonstrate the stable generation of 635 nm DSR mode-locked pulses with a pulse duration as short as ~96 ps, a radio-frequency signal-to-noise ratio of 67 dB and a narrow spectral bandwidth of <0.1 nm. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with our numerical simulations. In addition, we also observe 635 nm noise-like pulse operation with a wide (>1 nm) and modulated optical spectrum. This work represents an important step towards miniaturized ultrafast fibre lasers in the visible spectral region.

  • Real-time temporal-spectral analysis of complex dynamics involving multiple soliton states in a dual-wavelength passively mode-locked fiber ring laser

    摘要: We present an experimental study of complex dissipative solitons dynamics in a passively mode-locked fiber ring laser. Recently, thanks to real-time spectroscopy techniques such as the dispersive Fourier transform (DFT), it has been possible to study the complex internal dynamics of soliton molecules. However, most of the works have been limited to the study of intermolecular or intramolecular dynamics involving a small number of solitons within a single compact soliton packet, to which the DFT technique applies naturally. In this work, we study the dynamics of complex arrangements of multiple solitons, extending the analysis to regimes where multiple soliton packets at different wavelengths coexist and interact in the cavity, probing simultaneously the internal dynamics of various short-lived soliton molecules, as well as the collective dynamics of the different soliton packets distributed in the cavity, all of which is made possible by simultaneous analysis in the temporal and spectral domains. This allows to relate temporal dynamics at different time scales, as well as temporal and spectral events. In particular, we report the experimental observation of the dynamics of the Kelly sidebands that flank the soliton spectra, and relate it to temporal and spectral events such as extinctions of soliton packets with pulsating amplitude, spectral narrowing, and with energy fluctuations.

  • Ultrafast mode-locked fiber laser with Zirconium disulfide on D-shaped Fiber

    摘要: Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), as highly anisotropic layered compounds, have attracted increasing interest from basic research to practical applications. Among them, zirconium disulfide (ZrS2) with remarkable physical properties has been widely investigated recently. Here, ZrS2 employed as a saturable absorber is utilized in an Er-doped fiber laser. A stable mode-locking operation is achieved, with central wavelength of ~1559.5 nm, 3 dB bandwidth of ~1.72 nm, and pulse duration of ~1.75 ps. As far as we know, our work demonstrates for the first time that ZrS2 can be applied to realize ultrafast laser pulses.

  • Sub-200-kHz single soliton generation in a long ring Er-fiber laser with strict polarization control by using twisted fiber

    摘要: In the present work we demonstrate a novel single-soliton ultra-low pulse repetition frequency passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser. We mitigate the residual linear birefringence of fiber by fiber twist to achieve a strict control of polarization. For mode-locking the nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) was used. Special technique was applied to reduce the overdriving of NPR that allows the generation of single soliton in ultra-long cavity. The strict control of polarization yields a stable relation between the polarization state of the pulses propagating in the cavity and the regimes of generation. A 192.12-kHz train of soliton pulses was obtained with pulse duration of 4.7 ps at 1560.1 nm, the average power was 29 μW and the estimated peak power was ? 30.8 W with an energy of 150.9 pJ.
