Polariton superregular breathers in a resonant erbium-doped fiber
摘要: We study polariton superregular (SR) breathers triggered by the resonant interaction of an optical field with two-level doping ions in an erbium-doped fiber. We demonstrate explicitly that the optical wave component always features a bright structure that describes the modulation instability (MI) development from localized small perturbations, while the SR matter-wave breathers exhibit more complicated dynamical evolution, which are absent in standard scalar SR breather theory. Despite the complexity, the exact link between these SR breathers and MI is established strictly by showing that the absolute difference of group velocities of SR breathers coincides exactly with the linear MI growth rate. In particular, we show how a small dip perturbation of the dark SR breather in the matter wave component induces an intriguing MI process of completely exponential decay. These results will enrich our understanding on the MI development in complex coupled light-matter interaction systems.

Grey and black optical solitary waves, and modulation instability analysis to the perturbed nonlinear Schr?dinger equation with Kerr law nonlinearity
摘要: This paper addresses the nonlinear Schr?dinger equation (NLSE) with Kerr law nonlinearity and perturbation terms in optical fibre. A class of grey and black optical solitary wave solutions of this equation are retrieved by adopting an appropriate solitary wave ansatz solution. These types of solitary waves play a vital role in understanding various physical phenomena in nonlinear systems. This lead to a constraint condition on the solitary wave parameters which must hold for the solitary waves to exist. Moreover, the modulation instability (MI) analysis of the model is studied by employing the concept of linear-stability analysis (LSA) and the MI gain spectrum is got. Physical interpretations of the acquired results are demonstrated. It is hoped that the results reported in this paper can enrich the nonlinear dynamical behaviours of the equation.

Effect of quintic nonlinearity on self-phase modulation and modulation instability in multiple coupled quantum wells under electromagnetically induced transparency
摘要: The self-phase modulation and modulation instability of an optical probe electromagnetic field in multiple quantum well systems under electromagnetically induced transparency has been investigated. The probe field experiences large Kerr and quintic nonlinearities that can be controlled by two controlling laser beams. The probe beam experiences self-phase modulation which is suppressed by the quintic nonlinearity. The probe field is modulationally unstable due to the existence of large nonlinearities. The bandwidth of unstable frequencies and growth of the instability could be controlled by the probe beam power, the Rabi frequency and detunings of two control fields. The presence of the higher order nonlinearity and dispersion significantly reduce the instability growth and bandwidth of unstable frequency.

The coupled derivative nonlinear Schr??dinger equation: conservation laws, modulation instability and semirational solutions
摘要: For exploring the coupled derivative nonlinear Schr?dinger (DNLS) equation more systematically, we give the in?nitely many conservation laws of it. Then, the modulation instability of the plane wave solutions for the coupled system is discussed. The higher-order semirational solutions, which can be completely classi?ed as three types, for the coupled DNLS equation are constructed by utilizing the particular vector solutions of the Lax pair and the Darboux transformation.

Excitation conditions of several fundamental nonlinear waves on continuous-wave background
摘要: We study the excitation conditions of antidark solitons and nonrational W-shaped solitons in a nonlinear fiber with both third-order and fourth-order effects. We show that the relative phase can be used to distinguish antidark solitons and nonrational W-shaped solitons. The excitation conditions of these well-known fundamental nonlinear waves (on a continuous-wave background) can be clarified clearly by the relative phase and three previously reported parameters (background frequency, perturbation frequency, and perturbation energy). Moreover, the numerical simulations from the nonideal initial states also support these theoretical results. These results provide an important complement for the studies on relationship between modulation instability and nonlinear wave excitations, and are helpful for controllable nonlinear excitations in experiments.

Breather waves, high-order rogue waves and their dynamics in the coupled nonlinear Schr?dinger equations with alternate signs of nonlinearities
摘要: We consider the analytic vector breather and high-order rogue wave solutions for the coupled nonlinear Schr?dinger (NLS) equations with alternate signs of nonlinearities via Darboux dressing transformation. By adjusting spectral parameters, we indicate that the breather wave solutions contain temporally periodic nonlinear waves and spatially periodic nonlinear waves, respectively. The vector rogue wave solutions include the bright one-peak-two-valleys rogue wave and the bright rogue wave without valleys. Additionally, we successfully show different types of the distributions for the second-order vector rogue waves. The existence condition for the rogue waves is discussed. For the coupled NLS equations with alternate signs of nonlinearities, the rogue wave solutions exist if the baseband modulation instability (MI) is present.

摘要: We experimentally demonstrate an optimization of wide-spectral mode-locking fiber laser carriers by the introduction of two-pulse pump scheme with fiber dispersion management. We also verify the improved transmission performance of optimized wider-spectral carriers in 1km simulated atmospheric turbulent channel. For preferable compatibility and superiority, it can be an adaptive scheme for free space optical communication in the foreseeable future.

Breathers, multi-peak solitons, breather-to-soliton transitions and modulation instability of the variable-coefficient fourth-order nonlinear Schr?dinger system for an inhomogeneous optical fiber
摘要: Optical fiber communication system is one of the core supporting systems of the modern internet age. In this paper, under investigation is a variable-coefficient fourth-order nonlinear Schr?dinger system, which describes the simultaneous propagation of the optical pulses in an inhomogeneous optical fiber. The first-order breathers are constructed. Breathers are converted into several types of the nonlinear waves, i.e., multi-peak solitons, antidark solitons, periodic waves and W-shaped solitons, under the transition condition. With the decrease of |λr + a2|, the peak number of a multi-peak soliton increases, where λr represents the real part of the spectral parameter and a is a real constant. Peak number reaches the maximum since the multi-peak soliton is transformed into a set of the periodic waves with λr + a2 = 0. Widths and velocities of the multi-peak solitons are related to the group velocity dispersion and fourth-order dispersion coefficients. We find that the condition of baseband modulational instability coincides with the transition condition when we use the rogue-wave eigenvalues, i.e., the transition between the rogue waves and multi-peak solitons can occur in the baseband modulational instability.

Three-component coupled nonlinear Schr??dinger equation: Optical soliton and modulation instability analysis
摘要: This study successfully extracts the combined dark-bright and singular optical solitons to the three-component nonlinear Schr¨odinger equation by using the extended sinh-Gordon equation expansion method. The modulation instability analysis of the governing model is also presented. By using suitable values of the parameters, the 2-, 3-dimensional, and contour graphs to the reported results and the gain spectrum for the modulation instability analysis are plotted.

Nonlinear Fiber Optics || Optical solitons
摘要: A fascinating manifestation of the fiber nonlinearity occurs through optical solitons, formed as a result of the interplay between the dispersive and nonlinear effects. The word soliton refers to special kinds of wave packets that can propagate undistorted over long distances. Solitons have been discovered in many branches of physics. This chapter focuses on pulse propagation inside optical fibers in the regime in which both the group-velocity dispersion (GVD) and self-phase modulation (SPM) are equally important and must be considered simultaneously. It is organized as follows. Section 5.1 considers the phenomenon of modulation instability and shows that propagation of a continuous-wave (CW) beam inside optical fibers is inherently unstable and may convert the CW beam into pulse train under appropriate conditions. The inverse-scattering method is discussed in Section 5.2 together with the soliton solutions. The properties of the fundamental and higher-order solitons are also discussed in this section. Section 5.3 is devoted to other kinds of solitons, with emphasis on dark solitons. Section 5.4 considers the effects of external perturbations on solitons. Perturbations discussed include fiber losses, amplification of solitons, and noise introduced by optical amplifiers. Higher-order nonlinear effects such as self-steepening and intrapulse Raman scattering are the focus of Sections 5.5 and 5.6.
