摘要: Digital television signal is a promising signal of opportunity for wireless positioning. This paper studies the time of arrival (TOA) estimation on the European standard DVB-T signals in the context of positioning. Theoretical analysis on the autocorrelation of the pilot signal and multipath error envelop suggests that DVB-T has the appropriate characteristics for positioning. A software defined radio-based DVB-T receiver is developed for field testing, in which the radio frequency DVB-T signals are first sampled by universal software radio peripheral, and then algorithms of the coarse symbol synchronization, the pilot detection, the first path acquisition, and the delay tracking are sequentially performed to obtain the TOA estimation. To quantify the TOA tracking results on real DVB-T signals, field testing campaigns are carried out in five cities in Southern France. Test results showed that, in the high signal-noise ratio condition, the 2-σ error interval is within 1 m. By taking into account all the field tests, the interval of 95% accuracy is within 4 m and the corresponding C/N0 varies from 48 to 62 dB-Hz. In addition, with the developed TOA estimation method, the synchronization of the emitters with global positioning system time is evaluated and the distance difference of the multiple emitters within single frequency networks are also measured during the tests.

Disaster management using free space optical communication system
摘要: A novel method for disaster management using free space optical link is proposed in this paper. Free space optics recently gained great attention since it has advantages over RF communication such as high bandwidth, license free spectrum and highly secured transmission. Besides all these, FSO faces challenges during transmission due to atmospheric turbulence-induced fading. Diversity techniques are used in this paper to mitigate the fading effects. The capacity of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) free space optical (FSO) networks is increased using polarization division multiplexing (PDM). This paper proposed a novel method of MISO and MIMO-OFDM which uses both odd and even subcarriers to improve the transmission capacity. The separated OFDM subcarriers are combined using PDM, which supports two independent data channels on a single wavelength with orthogonal polarization states. The system performance is evaluated under various atmospheric turbulence conditions. This paper introduces a novel application of MIMO-FSO system during disaster scenario. The atmosphere is considered to be turbulent in nature, and Malaga model is used to characterize the channel. The closed-form expressions for MIMO-FSO are derived, and the graphs for the performance under different turbulent conditions are plotted.

Symbol Error Probability Analysis of DFrFT-based OFDM Systems with CFO and STO in Frequency Selective Rayleigh Fading Channels
摘要: In this article we derive exact symbol error probability (SEP) expressions for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) based on discrete fractional Fourier transform (DFrFT) when symbol timing offset (STO) and carrier frequency offset (CFO) are present together. Closed form expressions are derived for binary phase shift keying, quadrature phase shift keying, and 16-ary quadrature amplitude modulation in the case of transmission over a frequency selective Rayleigh fading channel. As is well known, in OFDM the presence of CFO destroys the orthogonality between the sub-carriers, generating inter-carrier interference (ICI), while the presence of STO introduces intersymbol interference, between successive symbols, and phase rotations in frequency domain, within the same symbol. It is well recognized that an OFDM system based on DFrFT is more robust to ICI introduced by CFO than that based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT). Motivated by this, the combined effect of CFO and STO on the SEP of a DFrFT-based OFDM system is analyzed. Our results show that the DFrFT-based OFDM system outperforms that based on the DFT for different values of the DFrFT ‘angle parameter’. Monte Carlo simulations are used to demonstrate the correctness of the derived analytical expressions.

An Overview of OFDM-Based Visible Light Communication Systems From the Perspective of Energy Efficiency Versus Spectral Efficiency
摘要: In this paper, the energy ef?ciency and the spectral ef?ciency for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)-based visible light communication schemes are studied, which is crucial for practical application with limited energy resources. The conventional schemes, including asymmetrically clipped optical OFDM (ACO-OFDM), pulse-amplitude-modulated discrete multitone, and direct current biased optical OFDM, are compared in terms of energy ef?ciency and spectral ef?ciency relationship. The in?uence of power allocation for asymmetrically clipped dc biased optical OFDM and hybrid ACO-OFDM is also investigated. The energy ef?ciency and spectral ef?ciency of layered ACO-OFDM with a variable layer number are calculated and their relationship is also formulated. These conventional and hybrid modulation schemes are analyzed and compared through computer simulations, which should be considered in practice according to the requirements of illumination and transmission.

Zero-Padded Conjugate Transmission to Cancel ICI in OFDM System
摘要: In OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) to minimize effect of Inter-carrier interference the proposed technique Conjugate transmission with Zero padding and adaptive receiver is proposed in this research article. To transmit the signal according to proposed scheme, first regular OFDM signal is transmitted as a signal in the first path and conjugate signal of regular OFDM is transmitted using proposed algorithm in second path. Two consecutive symbols of the proposed OFDM signal is transmitter after padding Zeros between them to minimize the effect of inter-carrier interference for better time and frequency synchronization between transmitter and receiver signal. To adaptively update the frequency offset error receiver is designed with block least mean-squared algorithm (BLMS). BPSK, QPSK and 16-QAM modulation techniques are used and simulation results are carried out using MATLab software. Simulation results for proposed scheme are compared with regular OFDM system, Conjugate Cancellation (CC) and Phase Rotation Conjugate technique (PRCC) with reference to BER and simulation graphs shows that proposed scheme shows better BER rate performance as comparison to conventional techniques for AWGN wireless channel.

Efficient Indoor Data Transmission with Full Dimming Control in Hybrid Visible Light / Infrared Communication Systems
摘要: We design a hybrid visible light (VL) and infrared (IR) data transmission scheme for indoor visible light communication (VLC) systems with multi-pulse position modulation (MPPM) dimming control. A low-power IR light-emitting diode (LED) is adopted to assist the VL downlink especially when the dimming level of VL is low. Both VL and IR orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals are transmitted alternately during the “on” and “off” periods of MPPM dimming controlled pulses. In this way, MPPM “off” periods can be efficiently utilized to convey data information without affecting illumination level. This arrangement ensures reliable data transmission under all illumination conditions including dark scenario. Numerical results show that the additional IR link can always facilitate the use of low M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (M-QAM) levels. The fluctuation of required M-QAM symbol rates caused by dimming control can also be mitigated. At low dimming levels, both the receiver sensitivity requirement for the VL link and the total required transmit power can be significantly alleviated while maintaining a constant data rate at BER < 10-3. Even with limited launching power, the proposed scheme can still extend dimming control range while achieving stable and reliable transmission quality effectively.
