摘要: Overvoltage is one of the major issues on distribution grids with high penetration of photovoltaic (PV) generation. Overvoltage could be prevented through the control of active/reactive power of PVs. However, given the high R/X ratio of low voltage feeders, voltage control by using reactive power would not be as effective as using active power. Therefore, active power curtailment (APC) of PVs, though not desirable, becomes necessary at times to prevent the overvoltage issues. Existing literature is rich in centralized and droop-based methods for APC and/or reactive power control of PVs to prevent overvoltage issues. In this context, this paper revisits the most popular existing methods, and evaluates the performance of droop-based and centralized methods using a typical North American 240 V low voltage feeder with 24 residential homes. In this work, our key findings are: a) droop-based methods provided conservative solutions or did not eliminate the overvoltages completely, b) power flow sensitivity based droop approach led to 13% more curtailment than the centralized approaches, c) centralized approach had 40% less energy curtailed compared with standard droop while no overvoltages were observed, and d) operating PVs at non-unity power factor in centralized approach led to 5% less energy curtailment.

摘要: Voltage rise is one of the major concerns that limits the photovoltaic (PV) hosting capacity or the maximum amount of PV generation that a distribution circuit can accommodate. This paper examines the effectiveness of low-voltage distribution static compensators (LV-DSTATCOMs) in increasing the PV hosting capacity of distribution circuits by mitigating voltage rise. Stochastic analysis framework is used to determine the PV hosting capacity while an iterative placement technique is used to identify effective device locations. To provide insights on the optimal device size, number, and control settings, sensitivity analysis is carried out. The results show that, with appropriate size and control settings, installation of few LV-DSTATCOMs in a distribution circuit can significantly increase its PV hosting capacity. For the circuit under consideration, a set of 23 devices has increased the PV hosting capacity from 15% to 100% of the median day time peak load.

摘要: This paper deals with those measures against overvoltage taken when protecting buildings occupied by people or animals. Such overvoltages can appear in the case of ground fault if the grounding system of the building is located within a potential funnel of a transmission tower's grounding system. This paper presents an entire concept regarding protection against any potential rise within the building. Computations of electrical potential on the grounding system having been performed using data obtained by measurements. This includes equipotential bonding, overvoltage protection of the building, and a transformer substation with metal–oxide varistors and gas-discharge arresters installed on the low-voltage line. A simulation model for the entire overvoltage protection based on known mathematical models has been merged within this paper. Adequate overvoltage protection elements were selected for protection against potential rises in the grounding systems of buildings on the basis of computation results.

摘要: This paper deals with the impact of a gas discharge arrester's electrodes' shapes on its performance. When after extinguishing the electric arc between the electrodes of the gas discharge arrester and the electric-field strength between the electrodes exceeds the critical value, reignition occurs. Computation of the electric-field strength between the electrodes of the existing gas discharge arresters using the finite elements method shows that electric-field strength reaches its highest values at the edges of the electrodes. It therefore makes sense to reduce the electric-field strength at the edges of the electrodes by changing the electrodes' shapes. This also reduces the risk of reigniting the electric arc between the electrodes and improves the arrester's ability to self-extinguish. The electrodes can be geometrically shaped in such a way that ensures much uniform distribution of the electric-field strength as possible. This paper describes the model of a gas discharge arrester and the use of a differential evolution optimization algorithm for computation of the more adequate shapes of electrodes. Thus, uniform distribution of the electric-field strength is ensured between the gas discharge arrester electrodes.

Exploring Synergistic effect of Ni <sub/>x</sub> Sn <sub/>2x</sub> S <sub/>4x</sub> Thiospinel with MWCNTs with Enhanced Performance in Dye Sensitized Solar cells, Hydrogen Evolution Reaction and as Supercapacitor
摘要: Trifunctional nickel tin sulfide (NixSn2xS4x) thiospinel like structure composited with multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (M–NixSn2xS4x) was synthesized by a facial method. The unit cell arrangement of prepared composite has been studied by Density Functional Theory (DFT) and the theoretical interpretation satisfactorily inferred the presence of synergistic effect between thiospinel and MWCNTs. High metallic conductivity and superior electrocatalytic activities of M–NixSn2xS4x composite plays a prominent diverse roles as counter electrode for dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) with 4.67 % efficiency when compared to Pt (5.23 %) at fluorine doped indium tin oxide (FTO), efficient catalyst like Pt for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with good cyclic stability and low over potential of ?41 mV at the cathode current density of 10 mA cm2 and Tafel slope of 43 mV/dec at graphite sheet electrode and as impressive capacitance material at graphite sheet electrode alternate to an expensive current collectors like Ni foam with a specific capacitance value of 1,200 Fg?1 at current density of 1 Ag?1 and long life span of 92.6 % retained up to 15,000 cycles.
