  • An Improved Frequency Measurement Method from the Digital PLL Structure for Single-Phase Grid-Connected PV Applications

    摘要: The Phase Locked Loop (PLL) technique has been studied to obtain the phase and frequency information in grid-connected distributed generations for the sake of synchronizing the grid voltage and the inverter output current. In particular, the line frequency information, such as the anti-islanding function, is very important for the grid connection requirement. This paper presents a novel frequency measurement method from the digital PLL control structure for single-phase grid-connected PV applications. The conventional PLL controller uses the phase information to calculate the frequency of PV inverter output voltage after every line cycle and has shown a relatively low accuracy. This paper uses the angular frequency to directly measure the frequency after every line cycle. To verify the validity of the proposed method compared with the conventional method, a simulation was conducted. According to the simulation results, the measurement error of the proposed method is 80 times lower than the conventional one.

  • Nested control loop design for differential boost inverter using generalized averaged model in photovoltaic applications

    摘要: To use photovoltaic energy, voltage source inverters are playing an important role. The most of local AC loads such as AC motors need higher voltage than solar panel output voltage. Differential boost inverter produces an AC voltage that is greater than the DC input voltage in a single power stage. This inverter consists of two DC-DC bilateral boost converters in which work via time-variant duty cycles to produce sinusoidal voltage, and this feature causes complexity in control design. To deal with this complexity, new modeling so-called generalized averaged model is used to achieve a linear time-invariant model. In this paper, a nested control loop is designed. This control strategy consists of two control loops in which the inner loop is designed by linear quadratic regulator theory to displace poles in proper location and the second loop uses a PI-PR controller to track desired voltage and reject disturbances. To evaluate the proposed control method, the sliding mode controller is applied and compared as well. As shown by simulations, the proposed control strategy has more reliable performance and provides higher robustness in comparison with sliding mode control technique in rigid situations such as dealing with nonlinear load, parameters values changes, and external disturbances.

  • Robust Model Predictive Control (MPC) for large-scale PV plant based on paralleled three-phase inverters

    摘要: In this contribution a robust Model Predictive Control (MPC) is proposed to enhance the power quality of a large-scale PV plant connected to the grid through Paralleled Voltage Source Inverters (PVSIs) with common AC and DC buses. Paralleling inverters allow handling high-power export and offer advantages in terms of redundancy which ensure the system reliability. However, due to the physical differences and parameter disparities between the inverters, zero sequence circulating currents will flow through it, which will disturb the performance of the system. Hence, the control goal is to regulate the currents injected into the grid, suppress the zero-sequence circulating current (ZSCC). Consequently, this study proposes an MPC algorithm that is based on optimization approach which allows minimizing circulating currents. In order to show its effectiveness and performance of the proposed control, a comparison with linear PI controller is included. In addition, design control and tuning procedure are detailed. Simulation results show the performance of the proposed controller in ensuring power quality, and suppressing circulating currents. To verify the real-time feasibility of the proposed control scheme, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) setup is carried out with means of Opal-RT and dSPACE rapid prototyping systems.

  • Scheduling of PV inverter reactive power set-point and battery charge/discharge profile for voltage regulation in low voltage networks

    摘要: In recent years, renewable energies and storage systems are bringing a significant contribution to power system. Due to the high penetration of non-predictable power sources, especially in the distribution networks, new challenges related to the integration and management of these new resources also combined with storage systems arose in power system research. Accordingly, the aim of this paper is to propose an innovative scheduling method for voltage regulation in low voltage networks. A simple type of contract for ancillary services that foresees the participation of active users endowed with a storage system coupled with a PV system is considered. The method allows to regulate the voltage in a distribution system by using a combined PV and storage system. The voltage regulation is achieved by setting the value of the inverter reactive power on the basis of sensitivity coefficients of the considered node, taking into account the capability curve constrains, as required by new grid codes. A possible tariff policy is also proposed for the ancillary service and for the operation of the realization of the scheduling algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for the scheduling of the power system.

    摘要: This paper presents the implementation and testing of SPV powered 0.5HP AC water pumping system. DC pumps are widely used in SPV based systems. However, the cost employed for DC pumps is much larger in comparison to conventional AC pumps. In the proposed system inverter is designed for 400 W SPV panel connected to 0.5HP pump. The experimental setup is in Energy Park, Basaveshwar Engineering College built (Autonomous), Bagalkot, India. Further, performance analysis of the SPV water pump under varying conditions of solar radiation is carried out. Solar radiation, SPV output, Inverter output, Inverter efficiency, Flowrate from pump, Hydraulic power output and Pump efficiency are experimentally obtained and tabulated. Performance results revealed that, proposed model delivers 45-50 liters of water per minute from the depth of 3m water tank. Maximum efficiency of inverter and entire unit is obtained at highest solar radiation of 1195W/m2. The results indicate the efficient working of the implemented system for at least 4 hrs, between 11:00am to 3:00pm of a day. The proposed the cost and decreases dependency on conventional energy sources, while satisfying the water requirement in small scale agriculture and gardening.

  • The application of compound proportional resonant control strategy in multiple PV inverters system

    摘要: In order to eliminate the effect on the grid current caused by the background harmonic voltage and the reference signal on the grid connected multi-inverter, this paper adopts the double closed-loop feed-forward control strategy. This strategy is based on the inductor voltage and the grid-connected current, and the integrated control strategy of quasi-proportional resonance loop parallel to a specific harmonic compensation loop. Based on the closed-loop model of multiple inverters, the change curves of the transfer function of the two control strategies are compared with the feed-forward control and the composite proportional resonance. The two corresponding control methods are used to analyze the current quality of the multi-inverter impact. Finally, the MATLAB/Simulink simulation model is set up to verify the proposed control strategies. The simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve better tracking of the sinusoidal command signal at the fundamental frequency, and enhance the anti-interference ability of the system at the 3rd, 5th, and 7th harmonic frequency.

    摘要: In this article, a solitary-phase seven-level series connected H-Bridge powered by photovoltaic MPPT-based SHAPF in view of basic controller is proposed. SRF is utilized for reference input current extraction and to create pulses for the SHAPF. The principle point of the cascaded bridge is to dispense harmonics, enhance power factor, and reactive energy compensation of the single-phase distribution framework. The suggested control calculation has two parts, changing the load current into stationary reference outline directions and estimation of peak amplitude of load currents. Consequently, a basic and dependable controller effortlessly of execution was created. The calculation for single-phase SHAF is intending to perform with exact tracking performance under step changes in load currents and to give great dynamic compensation. In this article, synchronous reference theory PLL with Inverse-Park change is adopted for generating quadrature part of current. The execution of the control calculation is tried and assessed utilizing MATLAB/Simulink tool.

  • Common Mode Voltage Reduction of Single-Phase Quasi-Z-Source Inverter Based Photovoltaic System

    摘要: A common mode voltage (CMV) reduction method is proposed for the active power filter (APF) integrated single-phase quasi-Z-source inverter (qZSI) based photovoltaic (PV) power system. The APF integrated qZSI completely compensates the dc-side double-line-frequency (2ω) ripple through the APF capacitor, while maintaining low qZS inductance and capacitance. The proposed method reduces the CMV amplitude to half of that using the traditional sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM). The switching and conduction power losses are analyzed. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the proposed method reduces CMV without comprising performance and efficiency of the APF integrated single-phase qZSI.

  • Case Studies for Non-Detection of Islanding by Grid-Connected In-Parallel Photovoltaic and Electrical Energy Storage Systems Inverters

    摘要: In Korea, there is a rule for Renewable Energy Certification with weighting 5.0, to expand grid linkage capacity and to improve the stability of the grid to accommodate photovoltaic (PV) systems in a distributed power system. Due to this rule, many power companies and operators are trying to install electrical energy storage systems that are able to operate in conjunction with PV system power. These systems operate in parallel at the same grid connection point. This paper presents the results of case studies on the failure to detect islanding operation. Test evaluation devices that could be bi-directionally charged and discharged were implemented for an islanding detection test. Testing was conducted under a variety of operating conditions. When a single inverter was operated under the islanding condition, it was stably stopped within 0.5 s using the Korean grid-code standard. However, when two inverters were operated at the same time under the islanding condition, islanding detection failed and the two inverters continued to feed the connected RLC (resistor, inductor, capacitor) loads in the isolated section known as an island. Different algorithms used by PCS (power conversion system) manufacturers to detect islanding might cause this phenomenon. Therefore, it is necessary for a new PCS test standard to detect islanding.
