  • All-fiber passively Q-switched erbium-doped laser with Cr <sup>2+</sup> :ZnSe nanocrystals saturable absorber

    摘要: We experimentally demonstrate an all-fiber Q-switched erbium-doped laser using polyvinyl alcohol-based Cr2+:ZnSe nanocrystals (NCs) as saturable absorbers (SAs). The Cr2+:ZnSe NCs were produced by femtosecond laser ablation, and were spherical, with an average radius of about 107 nm. The nonlinear saturable absorption was characterized with a saturable optical intensity of 20 MW cm?2 and a modulation depth of ~24%. By placing the SA inside an erbium-doped fiber (EDF) laser cavity, a stable 3.152 μs pulse with a repetition rate of 34.452 kHz centered at 1564 nm was achieved, when pumped at the maximum pumping power of 300 mW. The maximum pulse energy reached 33 nJ and the signal-to-noise ratio was 48 dB. The results indicate that Cr2+:ZnSe NCs are promising for the development of a stable all-fiber passively Q-switched EDF laser.

  • Epsilon-near-zero medium for optical switches in Ho solid-state laser at 2.06????m

    摘要: Indium tin oxide (ITO), an epsilon-near-zero material in the low-dimensional family, was successfully fabricated and first used as an optical switcher in 2.06 μm. In the Tm:fiber pumped passively Q-switched laser, a maximum average output power of 312 mW was obtained with a shortest pulse width of 2.42 μs and a repetition rate of 20.53 kHz, corresponding to a single pulse energy and a peak power of 15.20 μJ and 6.28 W, respectively. Results suggest that ITO is looking forward to develop into a kind of suitable saturable absorber for generation of nanosecond pulse in solid state lasers.

  • High peak power, high-repetition rate passively Q-switching of a holmium ceramic laser

    摘要: We demonstrated a high peak power, high repetition rate Cr2+:ZnS passively Q-switched (PQS) Ho:YAG ceramic laser. Particularly, the influence of the initial transmission of the saturable absorber (SA) on the laser performance was investigated with two kinds of SAs. Finally, the laser generated average output power of 10.3 W and the stable 13.3 ns, 1.02 mJ pulses were achieved at a 10.1 kHz repetition rate. In addition, the highest peak power of 75.9 kW was obtained, to our best knowledge, which was also the highest peak power achieved in a ~2 μm PQS ceramic laser, corresponding to the intra-cavity peak power of 0.23 MW.

  • Passively Q-switched Tm:YAlO3 laser based on WS2/MoS2 two-dimensional nanosheets at 2????m

    摘要: A comparison of the pulsed laser performances of 2 μm passively Q-switched Tm:YAlO3 (YAP) lasers based on the use of tungsten disul?de (WS2) and molybdenum disul?de (MoS2) two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets as saturable absorbers is reported. The novel nanosheets were prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) technology. The microstructure and optical characteristics of the nanosheets were investigated experimentally. In a continuous-wave (CW) operation, the maximum output power of 2.8 W was obtained at an absorbed pump power of 6.9 W, with a corresponding slope e?ciency of 46.4%. In a passively Q-switched operation at a pump power of 1.45 W, the average output power, pulse width, repetition rate, pulse energy, and peak power for the Tm:YAP/WS2 laser were 0.11 W, 2.65 μs, 34.7 kHz, 2.9 μJ, and 1.23 W, respectively. As for the Tm:YAP/MoS2 laser, the corresponding values were 0.10 W, 2.5 μs, 24.0 kHz, 3.8 μJ, and 1.55 W.

  • Nd:YSAG Q-switched laser with anisotropic ReS2 nanosheets

    摘要: We have demonstrate the preparation and characterization of the ReS2 nanosheet based saturable absorber and its applications in Nd:YSAG lasers. In addition, the anisotropic property of the ReS2 nanosheets 1.06 μm was discussed in detail. Our results show that the ReS2 could be used as a saturable absorber in solid state lasers and the intrinsic anisotropy at infrared wavelength range could also be used as a polaroid. The ReS2 nanosheets combined the applications of saturable absorber and polarizer could be used as excellent opto-electronic devices.

  • Sb <sub/>2</sub> Te <sub/>3</sub> as the saturable absorber for the ~2.0 μm passively <i>Q</i> -switched solid state pulsed laser

    摘要: We demonstrated a passively Q-switched Tm:YAP solid state pulsed laser based on an Sb2Te3 saturable absorber. This saturable absorber was prepared by a facile hydrothermal method. The maximum pulse energy was up to 5.366 mJ at the absorbed pump power of 6.6 W. The corresponding pulse width, output power and repetition rate were 533 ns, 542 mW and 101 kHz, respectively. The results indicated that the hydrothermally synthesized Sb2Te3 nanosheet was a promising saturable absorber for near-infrared pulsed lasers.

  • Tunable passively Q-switched Dy <sup>3+</sup> -doped fiber laser from 271 to 308??μm using PbS nanoparticles

    摘要: We present the first widely tunable passively Q-switched Dy3+-doped ZBLAN fiber laser around 3 μm pumped at 1.1 μm using PbS nanoparticles as the saturable absorber (SA) to our knowledge. At 2.87 μm, the modulation depth and saturation intensity of the SA were measured to be 12.5% and 1.10 MW∕cm2, respectively. Stable Q-switching was achieved over a wavelength range of 2.71–3.08 μm (~370 nm), which is a record tuning range from a pulsed rare-earth-doped fiber laser, to our knowledge. A maximum output power of 252.7 mW was obtained, with a pulse energy of 1.51 μJ, a pulse width of 795 ns, and a repetition rate of 166.8 kHz. This demonstration implies that Dy3+ is a promising gain medium for tunable pulsed sources in the 3 μm band and shows for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, the potential of PbS as a mid-infrared SA.

  • Tunable passively Q-switched ultranarrow linewidth erbium-doped fiber laser

    摘要: A tunable passively Q-switched erbium-doped fiber laser with ultranarrow linewidth is proposed and demonstrated. With the single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as the passive Q-switch, the ultranarrow linewidth laser operation is realized based on spectral filtering effect using an ultranarrow tunable bandpass filter (UNTBF). The Q-switched laser spectrum is tunable from 1525 to 1561 nm, covering a wavelength range of 36 nm. At 1545 nm, the highest repetition rate of ~ 38 kHz and the lowest pulse width of 1.15 μs are obtained, with the corresponding pulse energy of approximately 0.18 nJ. The linewidth measurement using self-heterodyne technique yields a linewidth value of 17.5 kHz, which may be the narrowest linewidth for a Q-switched fiber laser to the best of our knowledge.

  • Frequency expansion of efficient passively Q-switched orthogonally-polarized dual-wavelength laser

    摘要: We report on the frequency expansion of e?cient passively Q-switched (PQS) orthogonally-polarized dual-wavelength laser for the ?rst time, to our knowledge. The dynamic of pulse synchronization for the PQS dual-wavelength laser was analyzed theoretically. With two Nd:YLF crystals, the simultaneous PQS orthogonally-polarized dual-wavelength laser at 1047 and 1053 nm was obtained with the maximum output powers of 4.5 and 4.2 W, respectively, resulting in a total optical-to-optical conversion e?ciency of 18.7%. The timing jitter between the 1047 nm main pulse and 1053 nm main pulse was 26.6 ns. Furthermore, substituting one of the Nd:YLF crystals for a Nd:YAG crystal, two sets of simultaneous orthogonally-polarized dual-wavelength lasers at 1047, 1064 nm and 1053, 1064 nm were generated with near 6 W of output power.

  • On the possibility to improve petrol engine operation by laser ignition

    摘要: A typical method frequently used for the experimental investigation of engines operation at light load, low speed and different air-fuel ratios by spark timing adjustment was applied to understand in what measure the characteristics of the ignition system could improve the petrol engines performances. In this sense, a Laser Ignition - LI system replacing the original spark ignition system of the engine was mounted and some comparisons between these systems have been made based on engine power, coefficients of variation and combustion duration when 500 consecutive cycles were registered for 2000 rpm engine speed with load equivalent to 2 bar brake mean effective pressure and up to 1.25 relative air-fuel ratios.
