  • Quality of Transmission Aware Optical Networking using Enhanced Gaussian Noise Model

    摘要: We present a new joint routing, wavelength, and power allocation method for optical network planning. The introduced gradient-based convex optimization approach has a lower computational complexity, compared to common linear programming techniques, suitable for both static as well as time-critical dynamic network planning with fast convergence requirement. The proposed scheme takes physical-layer impairments into account, using the enhanced Gaussian noise nonlinear model. In contrast to methods exploiting the theoretical full link spectrum utilization assumption (fully occupied fiber-optic C-band spectrum), we focus on maximizing the network achievable rate (AR) and minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) margin of networks with partial spectrum utilization in their links, relevant to the majority of empirical metro network scenarios. According to numerical results, the network achievable rate can be improved around 17% by performing power optimization over the individual launch power of network lightpaths compared to optimizing a single flat (equal) launch power for all the lightpaths. Moreover, the minimum SNR margin of the simulated network is improved by about 2.3 dB. Finally, it is observed that maximizing the network minimum SNR margin needs the launch power of each lightpath to be proportional to the total nonlinear interference noise efficiency influencing the lightpath.

  • WDM-based bidirectional chaotic communication for semiconductor lasers system with time delay concealment

    摘要: In this paper, we propose a wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM)-based chaos communication configuration allowing for the bidirectional exchange of information. In the scheme, the output of a master semiconductor laser (MSL), is injected into slave semiconductor lasers (SSLs), drives the chaotic synchronization of SSLs with optical feedback and electro-optical phase feedback. By calculating the largest Lyapunov exponent (LLE), Lempel–Ziv complexity (LZC) and permutation entropy (PE), we find that the system can generate the chaotic signal with high complexity. We also demonstrate that the chaotic signal bandwidth obtained is as high as 24.68 GHz by selecting the suitable parameters; this configuration intrinsically conceals the electro-optical phase feedback time delay signature (TDS) and optical feedback TDS in transmitted variable; this delayed chaotic dynamics are identically synchronized when the parameters of emitter are exactly matched with that of receiver; while the external and internal parameters’ mismatch between emitter and receiver can lead to the decrease of the synchronization quality. In addition, the result reveals that the channel spacing has influence on cross-correlation coefficient (XCF) quantifying synchronization quality. At last, the messages introduced at two ends of the link can be successfully encrypted and decrypted, and we quantitatively analyze the corresponding Q-factor at different transmission rates.

  • A RMSA algorithm for elastic optical network with a tradeoff between consumed resources and distance to boundary

    摘要: Elastic optical network (EON) has been a promising technology for the next generation of core transport networks, because it can support flexible spectrum assignment. Routing, modulation and spectrum assignment (RMSA) is one of the key issues in EON. In this paper, two indexes are considered during the spectrum assignment process, number of consumed resources R and distance to boundary I. Minimizing R means using the least resources to establish a connection while minimizing I implies that remainder idle resources are more lumped after a connection is established. Both of them can reduce blocking probability of network. However, optimizations of R and I are sometimes contradictory, so we propose three policies to make a tradeoff between them, which are R I I R policy sets I as the optimizing objective. as the chief one; the I policy can get the best Simulations are taken on the NSF-Net and UBN topologies, which show that the +R performance in most cases. We further compare the +R I policy with two existing well-performed algorithms, the First-Last-Fit algorithm and the Block-Assignment algorithm.     摘要: The H.264/AVC medium grain scalable (MGS) video standard is utilized to optimize video playback on passive optical networks (PONs). Video traf?c delay is the primary object of this optimization, though this technique’s impacts on other network performance metrics such as data traf?c delay and video traf?c delay variance (jitter) are also investigated. Video playback is improved by employing an adaptive algorithm which progressively drops scalable video layers as network utilization increases. The performance impact of the algorithm’s three parameters is investigated in detail, and the results of the optimized algorithm are compared to baseline results for reference.

    摘要: We present the design of a dual failure protected elastic optical network (EON) for different sharing capabilities of protection lightpaths. Routing and spectrum assignment (RSA) is considered for such a network so as to minimize the maximum number of frequency slots (FSs) used. The key principles for protection resource sharing among the first and the second protection lightpaths are identified for dedicated 1:1:1, mixed 1:1:1, 1+1:1, and 1+1+1 protection. Both integer linear programming (ILP) models and spectrum window plane (SWP)-based heuristic algorithms are proposed for RSA in dual failure protected EONs. Simulation results indicate that, apart from being efficient, the proposed SWP-based heuristic algorithm not only performs close to the ILP model but also does much better than a benchmark adaptive routing algorithm. We find that 1:1:1 protection technique performs better in terms of the maximum number of FSs used and the spare capacity redundancy than both the 1+1:1 and 1+1+1 techniques. In addition, the mixed 1:1:1 case outperforms the dedicated 1:1:1 case both in minimizing the maximum number of link FSs used and its spare capacity redundancy.

    摘要: Networking resilience is the ability to provide and maintain an acceptable level of service, albeit potentially degraded from nominal, in the face of faults and challenges to normal, including adversarial attacks. This paper explores the concept of resilient optical networks and scopes the important issues to be addressed in a sensible architecture. The solution includes monitoring and probing to determine the states of potentially unreliable network substrates, assessment of resilient network operating regimes, isolation of compromised assets, deployment of mitigation measures that may require communication over unreliable substrates and suggestions for resilient architecture design and improvement. The architecture construct evolves around a robust control plane that uses cognitive techniques to assess network states and automatically reacts to the on-set of impairments and attacks involving all the network layers from the Physical Layer to the Application Layer.

  • A novel optical network model for network burden release and congestion reduction based on passive optical network

    摘要: In this article, a new optical network structure coping with network congestion is proposed, which is based on passive optical network, and adopts data storage devices coupled with optical line terminal to release network burden. It is shown by our network performance simulation that this network has many merits such as free-scale, fewer connections, larger clustering coefficient, and smaller average shortest path length in comparison to the passive optical network. The novel network structure can replace the far-end service connections with the near-end ones, reduce congestions in an optical network, and, furthermore, relieve traffic burden in optical backbone and metropolitan area networks.

    摘要: A modern level of information technologies and computer facilities, as well as an actively developing digitalization of energy grids, allow us to reconsider approaches towards the development and improvement of the functions of automation and control systems for energy installations of various voltage classes. Primarily, it is a medium voltage, as the most common and, in connection with this, the most significant for end users. We propose a new 'Smart Grids Plus' concept for the digital energy grids design. These grids, in addition to the layers of intelligent energy grids and information communication channels, include a layer of diagnostic monitoring based on a passive fiber optic sensor networks. Sensor networks have a hybrid TWDM structure – information exchange channels and integrated fiber optical sensors – core, based on a new technology for address interrogation and multiplexing – special addressable fiber Bragg gratings, combined for arbitrary topologies. Some examples of diagnostic monitoring nets for temperature control of complete switchgear contacts and busbars are considered. Their principles of operation are discussed. The main advantages of these sensor networks are using addressable fiber Bragg gratings simultaneously with sensors and multiplexing elements, and using the PON structure simultaneously with sensor and communication networks.

  • Analysis of vulnerability propagation for the all-optical network based on Bio-PEPA

    摘要: Aiming at the vulnerability propagation of all-optical networks, combining with the characteristics of the all-optical network, a formal modeling and analysis method for vulnerability propagation based on Bio-PEPA is proposed in this paper. First of all, the main characteristics that influence the vulnerability propagation are analyzed. Then, the optical fibers, optical amplifiers and optical switches are abstract into three different clusters, and the propagation behavior of vulnerability in intra-cluster and inter-cluster are described accurately. In addition, Ordinary Differential Equations is used for model parsing. Finally, through testing the main factors of vulnerability propagation, such as the number of nodes with potential vulnerability, system detection and repair rate, it is shown that the model constructed in this paper can reflect the vulnerability propagation trend of all-optical networks reasonably. At the same time, the proposed method can avoid the state space explosion problem of traditional modeling methods.
