摘要: For efficient and dynamic path operations in transparent optical networks, routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) must be optimized in terms of not only link-resource utilization but also traffic distribution. In this paper, we propose a reinforcement-learning-based RWA algorithm that maximizes the number of paths to be accommodated to a network with pre-training using estimated traffic distributions. Numerical experiments elucidate that the number of paths accommodated increases by up to 9.1%.

Hybrid photonic-plasmonic electro-optic modulator for optical ring network-on-chip
摘要: One of the most essential components in an optical network-on-chip (ONoC) is the electro-optic modulator. Mach-Zehnder and micro-ring resonator electro-optic modulators are widely used in ONoC, and conventional silicon-based modulators have large footprints and low modulation rates and lack thermal stability. In this paper, a new electro-optic modulator based on surface plasmon polariton (SPP) is proposed, and indium tin oxide (ITO) is utilized as a conducting transparent oxide (TCO) material in the electro-optic modulator. The modulated optical signal is suitable for ONoC with architectures such as optical ring network-on-chip (ORNoC). When the wavelength is 1550 nm, the average coupling efficiency is over 70%, the extinction ratio of the electro-optic modulator is -14.1 dB, and the insertion loss is 2.1 dB. In addition, the size of the modulator is less than 8.50 μm×1.6 μm, and the modulation operating bandwidth is up to 0.7171 Tbit/S. When the wave division multiplex (WDM) mode is used, the operating bandwidth is up to 2.1 Tbit/S, and the energy consumption per bit (E) is 5.7211 fJ/bit. All of the above results were obtained from 3D-FDTD Simulation Software and MATLAB.

摘要: Energy ef?ciency of an optical network-on-chip (ONoC) largely relies on an effective laser power management strategy. Addressing the limitations of existing techniques, we propose a Task Mapping-Assisted Laser Power Scaling (TMALPS) framework to optimize the energy consumption and the application execution time of an ONoC. Through the combination of task mapping exploration and runtime laser power recon?guration applied to a wide range of application benchmarks, our TMALPS framework achieves an average of 66% saving of the energy-delay product, compared to a baseline scenario where the optimization techniques are not applied. Signi?cant improvement over existing techniques was also observed. The hardware overhead required to support our TMALPS framework is minimal with intelligent reuse of existing on-chip hardware resource.

摘要: Aiming at the rapid increase in the number of optical line terminals (OLTs) and optical network units (ONUs) connected to the control center in the software defined optical access network (SDOAN) environment, the security problems caused by the communication between devices and the high cost caused by the introduction of security schemes, we propose a lightweight identity two-way authentication scheme (LTWA) based on the cryptographically generated address (CGA) algorithm combined with the hash generated address (HGA) algorithm. The scheme introduces the CGA algorithm and the HGA algorithm without third party participation, so as to complete the first authentication binding and the non-first communication nodes respectively, which effectively prevents an attacker from forging or tampering with authentication interaction messages, thereby establishing an end-to-end trusted connection in the access network.

摘要: The dynamic service provisioning of AR request in EONs is studied in this paper. A notion named Degree of Spectrum-Time Fragmentation (DSTF) is introduced, which describes the fragmentation disorder degree of two dimension resource matrix. Then the service provisioning algorithm based on DSTF is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm reduces blocking rate and average request initial delay effectively.

摘要: In this paper, we introduce a novel adaptive non-uniform PSK modulation scheme, which is capable of adjusting the amplitude of the constellation points based on the channel condition, so as to achieve flexible signal transmission and reduces the receiver complexity. Simulation results indicate that services with different quality of service (QoS) requirements can be conducted on a single optical signal according to the channel condition. And the system efficiency can be improved to its maximum while guaranteeing the acceptable error rate at the same time. The performance of the proposed scheme exhibits an enormous potential for future high-speed elastic optical network.

摘要: How to make efficient data routing is one of the key points in optical network-on-chip. Traditional routing algorithms solve deadlocks by prohibiting turns. However, it cannot provide uniform adaptiveness in optical network-on-chip, which results in unbalanced traffic as well as thermal-faulty nodes and thereby degrades the network performance. To achieve traffic balancing and thermal-fault tolerant, a traffic-balanced and thermal-fault tolerant routing algorithm (TBTFTA) is proposed in this paper which considers traffic and temperature information simultaneously. TBTFTA can handle the congestion and different types of thermal-faulty nodes by a distributed path selection strategy. Simulation based on OPNET is carried out to evaluate the proposed algorithm. The results show a lower latency and an improved throughput by 37.39%, 43.62%, and 49.32% compared with the traditional algorithm under various traffic patterns.

Low-power optical network-on-chip using low-loss multilayer silicon wire waveguide
摘要: Photonic network-on-chip can benefit the future integrated structures only if it consumes less power. The optical devices used in the network router such as waveguides and switches must be low power to make the overall network power efficient. In this paper, a passive 4 × 4 optical network-on-chip router has been designed employing wavelength-division multiplexing using a novel multilayer silicon wire waveguide. The switching device, serially coupled double-ring resonator for the router, is also based on this waveguide. The designed router is first of its kind that comprises a multilayer silicon photonic wire waveguide and an improvised waveguide-based ring resonator switch. The performance evaluation of designed on-chip optical network router has been carried out in terms of bit error rate (BER). It has been shown that the designed optical network router offers low losses and better BER performance due to its novel low-loss devices and structure. Additionally, the designed network is complementary MOS compatible and non-blocking, i.e., all processing cores can transmit data to each other on all available wavelengths without any conflict.

摘要: Today’s multi-domain optical network (MDON) suffer resource unavailability crisis due to the ever increasing multi-media application based scheduled traffic (ST). In optical networks, the ST demands are referred as scheduled lightpath demands (SLDs). Thus, there is the pressing need to allocate resources efficiently throughout the network. In line of this, we present a wavelength indexing based end-to-end routing (WIR) strategy in MDON under SLD. As per the strategy, the demands are first sorted in increasing order of their holding time. For routing and wavelength assignment (RWA), the wavelength selection gets priority over the route selection. Corresponding to each wavelength, the shortest route from among the available K predefined candidate routes is assigned. The simulation results demonstrate improvement in the blocking probability and resource utilization with respect to the conventional RWA techniques named as scheduling based RWA (S-RWA) and greedy-RWA (G-RWA). The proposed strategy also improves the acceptance of intra- and inter-domain demands in MDONs.
