  • Efficient missing tag identification in blocker-enabled RFID systems

    摘要: Due to limited on-chip resources, RFID tags may blindly respond to any readers authorized or not, leading to privacy leakage when sensitive data are exposed. A feasible solution to this problem is deploying blocker tags that emulate and behave like the genuine tags. With this deployment, there is always a virtual tag produced by the blocker tag that responds to the reader when the genuine tag to be protected replies, resulting in irreconcilable collisions and thus preventing privacy-leakage. This paper studies the problem of missing tag identification in blocker-enabled RFID systems. Unlike existing work, the reader in this problem will always get the responses from blocker tags even the genuine tags are lost, which makes the existing solutions unavailable. To address this problem, we propose three efficient protocols. The first is a group-based protocol that splits the entire tag set into three subsets and separately deals with each of them in different ways. The second protocol is called collision-reconciled protocol that turns some useless collision slots into useful singleton slots, increasing slot availability and thereby reducing the execution time. The third protocol is a concurrent missing tag identification protocol that improves the time efficiency of missing-event detection by running grouping and missing identification in parallel rather than in sequence. Theoretical analyses and extensive simulations show that our protocols are far superior to benchmark. For example, our best protocol can improve the identification efficiency by a factor of 6.

  • Debye Frequency-extended Waveguide Permittivity Extraction for High Complex Permittivity Materials. Concrete Setting Process Characterization

    摘要: A waveguide with central frequency 868 MHz is used in transmission/re?ection operation regime to accurately measure the behaviour of the complex permittivity of high complex permittivity granular materials and it has been frequency-extended up to 3 GHz using the Debye ?tted relaxation model. It is shown that for highly granular high permittivity materials a waveguide based transmission/re?ection technique is necessary to reduce the uncertainty of the extracted permittivity values. The technique is ?rst described and validated with isopropyl alcohol and then applied to the characterization of cement based materials. This paper provides accurate data on the evolution of the complex permittivity of concrete and mortar from the moment of pouring until air dried condition is achieved.

  • Low power sensor node with photovoltaic power supply for radio-based process monitoring

    摘要: This paper presents the idea of improving existing process monitoring systems for drilling, milling or threading by employing a novel communication technology as well as energy harvesting methods. An overview of the system including sensor node, energy supply and communication technology is given. The radio transmission methods are investigated in terms of power consumption in order to define requirements for the power supply. Fundamental measurements to characterize the behavior of different types of solar cells under artificial light are performed. Based on the results, two designs of sensor node prototypes are presented. The optical power supply and the energy harvesting system for the demonstrators are shown in detail.

    摘要: This work discusses the possibility of using printed organic photovoltaic cells in order to increase the performance of UHF RFID sensor tags. As a proof of concept, an organic photovoltaic (OPV) cell was used to power the chip SL900A that incorporates a sensor front-end interface capable of measuring voltages, currents, resistances, and capacitances. Several read range measurements were realized using other types of power sources and compared to OPV. Results based on the OPV cell showed a significant enhancement in the tag read range (up to 80%) under low light conditions which opens the door for several IoT applications.

    摘要: In this work we present a near-?eld coupled antenna pair for UHF-RFID operation. The antenna pair is a suitable choice for applications involving detection of RFID tags inside an enclosure, where the power is coupled into the enclosure using the near-?eld coupling of the proposed antenna pair. The important design parameters of the antenna for the optimum performance in the coupled mode are presented and discussed. The proposed antenna pair presents a coupling better than 2 dB from 850 MHz to 950 MHz thus operable in the entire RFID frequency range.

    摘要: In the work, an ordinary microstrip line was studied in order to obtain a compact antenna that can be used as an RFID. So using different cutouts on the radiating antenna strip, it is possible to lower its resonance frequency. In the process, the effect of square cuts and notches on the two opposite ends of the antenna was investigated. Electrodynamic analysis of the proposed antennas, showed that it is possible using simple cutouts, to significantly reduce the dimensions of the antennas. The larger the cut-out area, the more the resonance frequency decreases and, together with it, the dimensions of the antennas. Various cut-outs of a microscatter square radiator were investigated. The entire modeling process was implemented in Ansys HFSS.

    摘要: In this paper, a low-cost patch antenna with circular polarization using a FR4 substrate is proposed. The antenna was developed to be used in US standard UHF RFID application, with better impedance matching at 915MHz. The design was concepted and optimized through simulations using the ANSYS HFSS software. The simulation results presented an absolute gain of 5.76dB, an axial ratio of 1.87dB and the return loss (S11) of 48dB at 915MHz. The antenna was manufactured and measurements of the return loss using the Keysight Vector Network Analyzer were made to compare with the simulation results. Furthermore, it was compared to a commercial antenna by reading a commercial tag using a RFID reader in order to validate the proposed antenna application.

    摘要: Broilers perceive light intensity differently from human due to differences in spectral sensitivity. Better understanding of broiler behavioral responses to their perceived lighting may inform farm management practices which helps to improve animal welfare and productivity. The objective of this study was to investigate broiler feeding behaviors at chicken- vs. human-perceived light intensities and under broiler specific LED (BLED) vs. conventional LED light spectrums. The treatment combinations of light intensities and light spectrums were randomly assigned to four identical experimental rooms (3.8 ×1.5 m, L×W), each with 60 tagged broilers. Light intensities at bird level were maintained at either 5 clux (chicken-perceived light intensity) or 5 lux (human-perceived light intensity). Ultra-high frequency radio frequency identification (UHF-RFID) systems were used to register broilers at the feeders. Feeding behaviors of individual broilers at each treatment combination were summarized in terms of daily time spent (DTS) at a feeder, daily percentage of time spent (DPTS), daily times of visit (DTV) to a feeder, duration per visit (DV), hourly time spent (HTS) at a feeder, and hourly times of visit (HTV) to a feeder. The results showed that the DTS (mean ± standard deviation ‘SD’, h·bird-1·day-1) were 2.7±0.1 for 5-clux BLED, 2.6±0.1 for 5-lux BLED, 2.3±0.1 for 5-clux LED, and 2.1±0.0 for 5-lux LED, respectively, corresponding to 8.8-11.2% time spent at the feeders within a day. The DTV (mean ± SD, times·bird-1·day-1) and DV (mean ± SD, min·visit-1) were 80±2 and 2.0±0.1 for 5-clux BLED, 88±2 and 1.8±0.1 for 5-lux BLED, 91±3 and 1.5±0.1 for 5-clux LED, and 95±4 and 1.3±0.1 for 5-lux LED, respectively. Numerically, the broilers tended to visit less to feeders but stay longer at feeders under the chicken-perceived light intensity and broiler specific light spectrum. Feeding behaviors (hourly time spent and times of visit) peaked 2-3 h after initiation of the photoperiod and 2-3 h before the end of the photoperiod. These preliminary observations suggest potential effects of light intensity and spectrum on feeding behaviors of individual broilers, thus providing insights in feeding managements under different light properties. More replicates are needed to validate the findings.

    摘要: Sensitivity is an important factor in the application of RFID tag, and it has attracted widespread attention. Firstly, the definition of sensitivity is introduced, and a new test method is proposed, which calculates the sensitivity by measuring reading distance. Secondly, the reading distance is measured by a semi-physical verification system. Thirdly, the single-tag sensitivity is tested and verified. The results have a strong agreement with the verification results. Finally, the RFID tags group sensitivity is tested. The experimental results show that this testing method is an effective method to test the tag sensitivity. The presented method has good characteristics in terms of usage and accuracy. Therefore, the research of this paper is very useful for testing of single-tag sensitivity, especially the RFID tags group sensitivity.

  • Directly Printable Frequency Signature Chipless RFID Tag for IoT Applications

    摘要: This paper proposes a low-cost, compact, flexible passive chipless RFID tag that has been designed and analyzed. The tag is a bowtie-shaped resonator based structure with 36 slots; where each patch is loaded with 18 slots. The tag is set in a way that each slot in a patch corresponds to a metal gap in the other patch. Hence there is no mutual interference, and high data capacity of 36 bits is achieved in such compact size. Each slot corresponds to a resonance frequency in the RCS curve, and each resonance corresponds to a bit. The tag has been realized for Taconic TLX-0, PET, and Kapton?HN (DuPontTM) substrates with copper, aluminum, and silver nanoparticle-based ink (Cabot CCI-300) as conducting materials. The tag exhibits flexibility and well optimized while remaining in a compact size. The proposed tag yields 36 bits in a tag dimension of 24.5 × 25.5 mm2. These 36 bits can tag 236 number of objects/items. The ultimate high capacity, compact size, flexible passive chipless RFID tag can be arrayed in various industrial and IoT-based applications.
