摘要: Novel bidirectional architecture on two optical OFDM SSB modulation techniques to mitigate Rayleigh backscattered and reflections interferences in RoF transmission is proposed. The interference effect is analyzed with mathematical model comparing conventional SSB and the modified SSB based on elimination of higher order RB-RE harmonics.

Estimation of Signal-to-Cross Talk Ratio of Stimulated-Raman-Scattering-Induced Cross Talk in Wavelength-Division-Multiplexing-Based Radio-over-Fiber Links
摘要: This paper evaluates the signal-to-cross talk ratio (SXR) of cross talk induced by stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in radio-over-fiber (RoF) systems based on wavelength-division multiplexing. The reported study has modeled the relations of SXR to modulation frequency, optical power, transmission length, and effective area of fiber for various values of the walk-off parameter. The summary of experimental reveals that SXR decreases with increases in channel input power and transmission distance and increased with increases in fiber effective area and modulation frequency. Results showed that increasing the walk-off parameter from 13.6 to 81.6 ps/km increased the SXR by almost 6 dBm. Furthermore, various fibers, including standard single-mode fiber (SMF), Corning LEAF, and Alcatel TeraLight were tested for their capacity to mitigate SRS-induced cross talk. These tests demonstrated that standard SMF suppressed SRS cross talk effectively and offered values of SXR 3 dBm and 6 dBm higher than the values exhibited by Alcatel TeraLight and Corning LEAF, respectively.

Millimeter-wave home area network prospect with cost-effective RoF links
摘要: The growth towards the millimeter-wave band in the home area networks (HAN) leads to high data rate transmission to satisfy the new user services. Unfortunately, the transmission coverage in this band is limited to short distances because of the strong air absorption and obstacles such as walls. The effort is then focused on the extension of the network coverage of the wireless link in this band. Solutions based on multiple connected access points to optical fibers are useful methods to ensure wireless connectivity to the entire home. For HAN applications, radio-over-fiber (RoF) using intensity modulation and direct detection technique is the mostly favorite technology for the transmission of a broadband wireless signal because dealing with a cost-effective solution. We investigate in this paper the performance of such RoF-wireless architecture with low-cost optoelectronic modules through the error vector magnitude (EVM) metric. The RoF links investigated are a directly modulated VCSEL with integrated photoreceiver module, an electroabsorption-modulated laser with PIN photodiode and a Mach–Zehnder Modulator with PIN photodiode. A simulation approach based on equivalent electrical circuit models of photonic components is developed in ADS (Advanced Design System) by using a co-simulation technique that combines both analog and digital signals. The downlink channel of the complete transmission system including wireless channel and frequency conversion circuits to millimeter-wave (mm-wave) band is studied by simulation. The obtained results of EVM show good performances of cost-effective links with QPSK and 16-QAM modulation over a dynamic range of 15 dB.

摘要: In the paper, the features of millimeter-wave ultra-wideband signals application, related to photon methods of generation and transmission of millimeter-wave signals, as well as the quasi-optical approach for modeling signal loss (amplification) are considered. It is proposed to use more accurate models of millimeter-wave ultra-wideband radio systems, which should correspond to the fundamental physical features of the propagation of millimeter waves, especially in urban conditions. It is shown that when calculating such systems it is necessary to take into account the noise associated with the method of generating millimeter waves.

Upstream and Downstream Analysis of an Optical Fronthaul System Based on DSP-Assisted Channel Aggregation
摘要: In this paper, we focus on a well-known optical fronthauling architecture based on frequency division multiplexed digital signal processing (DSP)-assisted channel aggregation, and we present new results related to the optimization of the optical setup, proposing an efficient technique for the optimization of the transmission. In particular, we report an original pre-emphasis technique to equalize the performance of the radio channels, especially focusing on the upstream (US) link that has more critical characteristics but has not typically been treated in detail in previous works on this topic. The effects of both radio and optical impairments on the error vector magnitude (EVM) are taken into account. An analytical description of our approach is provided, and then it is applied on an experimental setup (able to aggregate up to 96 20-MHz radio signals), showing the possibility of minimizing the maximum EVM at the output of the fronthauling link, for both downstream and US transmission. Additionally, a low complexity technique to practically estimate the EVM per channel by taking advantage of only the DSP-aggregation/deaggregation functionalities is proposed and, again, experimentally demonstrated.

摘要: The vestigial sideband modulation scheme using two parallel Dual-Drive Mach-Zehnder Modulator (DD-MZM) for radio over fiber (RoF) has been proposed in this paper. One DD-MZMs is configured to produce an optical single sideband (OSSB) modulation is configured so that if its output is added to the first DD-MZM output, it will produce unequal sideband millimeter wave (mmw). The measurement results show that RF signal power fluctuations received in the OVSB modulation scheme are smaller than the Optical Double Sideband (ODSB) and OSSB modulation schemes.

摘要: We have already proposed and developed an antenna-coupled- electrode electro-optic (EO) modulator for 28 GHz-band 5th generation mobile communication as a receiving antenna. The designed EO modulator was fabricated a metal ground plane backed linear dipole array using a 50-μm-thick LiNbO3 crystal and a 250-μm-thick SiO2 base. In this paper, we have shown antenna receiving patterns for 1-element dipole antenna, 4-element dipole array antenna and 8-elemen dipole array antenna. Half power beam width for H-plane of our developed receiving antennas are 70, 25 and 11 degree for 1 element, 4-element and 8-element dipole array, respectively.

Performance improved tunable millimeter-wave signal generation employing UFBG based AOTF with bit walk-off effect compensation
摘要: A scheme for the generation of mm-wave signals at different frequencies with improved performance is proposed and demonstrated by employing a uniform fiber Bragg grating based acousto-optic tunable filter (UFBG-AOTF). The different frequencies carry different information at a required data rate according to their application. This method reduces the complexity of the system by alleviating the cascaded Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZM) and a good transmission performance can be achieved by the FBG. In the previous system, the distance of transmission is reduced to 15 km due to bit walk-off effect and it also reduces the BER values at larger distances. In the proposed system, the bit walk-off effect is discussed and compensated to increase the transmission distance up to 60 km. The simulation results along with clear eye-diagrams show that the BER values are improved at larger distances than the previous system which proves the performance improvement of the proposed system.

Envelope Detection of 16QAM Single Carrier Signal for IM/DD RoF System at Q-band
摘要: In this paper, an envelope detection scheme of single carrier 16-ary Intensity-Modulation/Direct-Detection (IM/DD) radio-over-fiber (RoF) system is theoretically and experimentally investigated. Based on the proposed scheme, the mm-wave 16QAM signal is down-converted to the intermediate frequency (IF) 16QAM one by an envelope detector (ED) and there is no use of a mixer at the user side. We theoretically and experimentally study the performance of the signal under various conditions. In the system, 2GBaud 16QAM signal is delivered over 25km standard single mode fiber (SSMF) link and 2.9m wireless link under bit error rate (BER) of 3.8×10-3.
