  • 3D Band-Absorptive Frequency Selective Rasorber: Concept and Analysis

    摘要: This paper presents a 3D band-absorptive frequency selective rasorber (FSR). Such an FSR is absorptive within a specific band and almost transparent below the absorption band. The definition and evaluation of the band-absorptive FSR is initially provided and followed by the design concept of 3D FSR. An example is then proposed, whose unit cell is composed of 3D absorber and 3D band-stop FSS. An equivalent circuit model is established for understanding its operating principle. A prototype of the proposed 3D band-absorptive FSR is fabricated. The measured results show that it has an absorption band (|S11| ≤ ?10 dB and |S21| ≤ ?10 dB) from 4.21 to 6.51 GHz, with a thickness of 0.17 wavelength at 4.21 GHz. Moreover, |S21| is higher than ?1 dB at the frequencies below 1.28 GHz. The proposed band-absorptive FSR can be used as radomes for low-frequency antennas in military communications or spectrum monitoring systems.

  • A Frequency Selective Surface Based Reconfigurable Rasorber With Switchable Transmission/Reflection Band

    摘要: In this letter, a reconfigurable rasorber has been designed based on switching activity of frequency selective surface (FSS) and resistive FSS. The proposed design consists of two periodic layers separated from each other by an air spacer. The upper layer comprising lumped resistors assists wide absorption band (above 90% absorption) from 3.8 to 10.3 GHz (entire C and partial X Band), whereas PIN diodes are mounted in the bottom layer to enable the switching operation of the rasorber at S-Band. The novelty of the proposed design lies in its reconfigurable transmission/reflection band, which switches from a bandpass response (at around 2.88 GHz) to perfect reflection, with the control of the biasing states of the diode. A sample prototype is also fabricated and experimentally verified. Wide absorption band along with switchable transmission/reflection band characteristics have made the proposed rasorber an excellent choice for various radar cross section (RCS) reduction applications.

  • MINIATURIZED FREQUENCY SELECTIVE RASORBER BASED ON MEANDER-LINES LOADED LUMPED RESISTORS AND A COUPLED RESONATOR SPATIAL FILTER

    摘要: This paper presents a miniaturized frequency selective rasorber (FSR) with both wide absorption and transmission bands. The proposed FSR consists of a resistive sheet and a band-pass frequency-selective surface (FSS) with non-resonant constituting elements. The unit cell structure of the resistive sheet is a meander line loaded with four lumped resistors, which generate a wide absorption band from 2.4 to 6.2 GHz, while the layer of FSS is coupled resonator spatial filter (CRSF) that generates a wide transmission band from 7.5 to 10.2 GHz. Furthermore, there is a 10.5 mm air spacer between the resistive and FSS layers. The period of the FSR structure, which maintains its passband and absorption band performance, is only 10 mm (0.08λL). Simulated and measured results are compared and found to show good agreement.

  • Miniaturized Frequency Selective Rasorber with a Wide Transmission Band Using Circular Spiral Resonator

    摘要: This paper presents a miniaturized frequency selective rasorber (FSR) that has a wide transmission band with low insertion loss (IL) and a wide absorption band below the transmission band. The FSR is composed of a resistive sheet and a bandpass FSS. The unit cell of the resistive sheet is a resistor-loaded hexagonal metallic loop (HML), each side of which is inserted with a circular spiral resonator (CSR) in the center. The CSR is equivalent to a parallel LC circuit that has a high inductance and low parasitic capacitance. At high frequency of 10 GHz, the CSR resonates to be an infinite impedance, around which a 0.5-dB-transmission band of 8.68-11.34 GHz is produced. The bandpass FSS is a triple-layer FSS in which two layers of identical hexagonal patches are coupled through a layer of hexagonal aperture; it has a fast roll-off 0.5-dB-transmission band of 8.2-11.33 GHz, which almost coincide with that of the resistive sheet. The 1-dB-transmission band of the FSR by placing the resistive sheet on the bandpass FSS is 8.3-11.07 GHz. At low frequency, the FSR performs as an absorber, and the 10-dB-absorption band is 2.4-7.1 GHz. Besides, due to its tiny physical sizes of only 1.2 mm×1.6 mm, the CSR can be viewed as a lumped element circuit with a high inductance, in which the parallel resonance is almost independent to incident angle. The transmission performance of the FSR has a good independence of and polarizations and incident angles. A prototype of the proposed FSR is fabricated and measured to validate the design.

    摘要: In this paper, a tunable low-frequency broadband metamaterial (MM) dual-polarized rasorber based on slot arrays has been proposed. The structure consists of one air gap sandwiched between top lossy FSS layer and bottom lossless FSS layer, which exhibits a transmission window at 1.70GHz and a -10dB broadband absorption from 0.75GHz to 3.30GHz while the thickness is less than 10% of the free space wavelength at the lowest operating frequency. A switch between absorber and rasorber can be achieved by turning PIN diodes on/off, respectively. We think the proposed rasorber can be applied in low-frequency band stealth technology. The proposed design could also be easily scaled to other frequencies if necessary.

    摘要: A novel metamaterial-based 3-D frequency-selective rasorber (FSR) with wide low-insertion-loss passband and two-sided absorption bands is proposed. Two types of symmetric lossy split-ring resonators are employed in the unit cell of the periodic structure to produce the lower and upper absorption bands, respectively. It is shown through simulation that a low-insertion-loss (|S21|≥-1dB) passband can be obtained from 5.7 to 8GHz with the minimal insertion loss of 0.6dB around 6.5GHz and the fractional bandwidth for at least 10dB reflection reduction within the lower and upper frequency bands is 110% under normal incidence. Furthermore, by properly covering a pure PEC-backed dipole antenna by the proposed 3-D FSR array, a low-RCS antenna system is constructed, which exhibits a remarkable out-of-band radar cross section reduction (RCSR) and the enhanced radiation characteristics. It is expected that the proposed 3-D FSR design may be favorable for stealthy radome technologies.

    摘要: In this paper, a novel frequency-selective rasorber (FSR) which has a transmission band between two absorption bands is proposed. The FSR is composed of curved metal sheets with lumped resistors printed on a dielectric substrate and a frequency selective surface (FSS) used as the ground plane of the absorber. An equivalent circuit model of the structure is given for analyzing its operation mechanism. A good stability of the transmission and two-band absorption under the incident angle o30 for TE and TM polarizations has been obtained.
