Unconventional Rydberg pumping and applications in quantum information processing
摘要: We propose a mechanism of unconventional Rydberg pumping (URP) via simultaneously driving each Rydberg atom by two classical fields with different strengths of Rabi frequencies. This mechanism differs from the general Rydberg blockade or Rydberg antiblockade since it is closely related to the ground states of atoms, i.e., two atoms in the same ground state are stable while two atoms in different ground states are resonantly excited. Furthermore, we find the URP can be employed to simplify some special quantum information processing tasks, such as implementation of a three-qubit controlled-PHASE gate with only a single Rabi oscillation, preparation of two- and three-dimensional steady-state entanglement with two identical atoms, and realization of the autonomous quantum error correction in a Rydberg-atom-cavity system. The feasibility of the above applications is discussed explicitly by the state-of-the-art technology.

Imaging multiple Rydberg wave packets from shaper-generated two-color femtosecond pump-probe sequences
摘要: We combine a bichromatic white light polarization pulse shaping scheme with angle- and energy-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy to image the dynamics of atomic Rydberg wave packets. Background-free detection of the Rydberg dynamics is performed using shaper-generated bichromatic linearly and circularly polarized femtosecond pump-probe pulse sequences. Photoelectron momentum distributions from linearly polarized bichromatic fields feature pronounced time-, energy-, and angle-dependent dynamics, which result from the interference of s-, d-, and g-type photoelectron wave packets from the ionization of the Rydberg np and nf series. Detailed analysis of the highly differential data allows us to extract the dynamics of both Rydberg wave packets separately. The results are experimentally verified by additional pump-probe studies with bichromatic circularly polarized pulse sequences, which exclusively map the dynamics of the Rydberg nf series via g-type photoelectron wave packets.

Electromagnetically induced holographic imaging with Rydberg atoms
摘要: Electromagnetically induced holographic imaging using strongly interacting Rydberg atoms is investigated via electromagnetically induced grating (EIG). We consider two schemes, i.e., by direct detection of holographic imaging pattern, known as electromagnetically induced classical holographic imaging (EICHI), and by employing entangled photon pairs for imaging which is called as electromagnetically induced quantum holographic imaging (EIQHI). Both the schemes are employed to obtain 1D and 2D holographic imaging. In EICHI and EIQHI, amplitude and phase information of EIG can be imaged with controllable image variation in size. It is noticed that holographic imaging is influenced by van der Waals (vdW) effect present in Rydberg atoms.

摘要: Measurements of radio-frequency (RF) electric fields using atomic sensors based on quantum-optical spectroscopy of Rydberg states in vapors has garnered significant interest in recent years for the establishment of atomic standards for RF electric fields and towards the development of novel RF sensing instrumentation. Here we describe recent work employing atomic sensors for sub-wavelength near-field imaging of a Ku-band horn antenna. We demonstrate near-field imaging capability at a spatial resolution of λ/10 and measurements over a 72 to 240 V/m field range using off-resonance AC-Stark shifts of a Rydberg-atom resonance. A fiber-coupled atomic-sensor probe is also employed in far-field measurements of a WR-90 standard gain horn.

Rydberg-state ionization dynamics and tunnel ionization rates in strong electric fields
摘要: Tunnel ionization rates of triplet Rydberg states in helium with principal quantum numbers close to 37 have been measured in electric fields at the classical ionization threshold of ~197 V/cm. The measurements were performed in the time domain by combining high-resolution continuous-wave laser photoexcitation and pulsed electric field ionization. The observed tunnel ionization rates range from 105 to 107 s?1 and have, together with the measured atomic energy-level structure in the corresponding electric fields, been compared to the results of calculations of the eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian matrix describing the atoms in the presence of the fields to which complex absorbing potentials have been introduced. The comparison of the measured tunnel ionization rates with the results of these, and additional calculations for hydrogenlike Rydberg states performed using semiempirical methods, have allowed the accuracy of these methods of calculation to be tested. For the particular eigenstates studied the measured ionization rates are ~5 times larger than those obtained from semiempirical expressions.

Dynamically Steered Maser Action of Rydberg Excitons in Cu <sub/>2</sub> O
摘要: The Rydberg excitons in Cu2O are a promising candidate for realization of solid state maser. The highly excited states, unique to this crystal, provide the necessary energy level transitions for emission of microwaves. The achievement of population inversion is facilitated by exceptionally long lifetimes of excitons and their strong coupling to external field. Moreover, due to the strong Stark shift of excitonic energy levels, one can tune the emission wavelength on demand.

Quantum computing with neutral atoms
摘要: The power of quantum computation derives from algorithmic methods that exploit the availability of quantum superposition and entanglement to perform computations that are intractable with classical devices. The race is on to develop hardware that will unleash the promise of quantum algorithms. A handful of different types of hardware are currently being developed with the greatest efforts directed at superconducting, quantum-dot, trapped-ion, photonic, and neutral-atom approaches [1]. While all approaches have strengths and weaknesses, and are at different stages of development, the challenge of creating a practical design that can be scaled to a million or more qubits has not yet been met with any of the existing platforms.

Photofragment Translational Spectroscopy Studies of H Atom Loss Following Ultraviolet Photoexcitation of Methimazole in the Gas Phase
摘要: The ultraviolet (UV) photodissociation of gas phase methimazole has been investigated by H Rydberg atom photofragment translational spectroscopy methods at many wavelengths in the range 222.5 – 275 nm and by complementary electronic structure calculations. Methimazole is shown to exist predominantly as the thione tautomer, 1-methyl-2(3H)-imidazolinethione, rather than the commonly given thiol form, 2-mercapto-1-methylimidazole. The UV absorption spectrum of methimazole is dominated by the S4←S0 transition of the thione tautomer, which involves electron promotion from an a′ (py) orbital localized on the sulfur atom to a σ* orbital localized around the N–H bond. Two H atom formation pathways are identified following UV photoexcitation. One, involving prompt, excited state N–H bond fission, yields vibrationally cold but rotationally excited methimazolyl (Myl) radicals in their first excited (??) electronic state. The second yields H atoms with an isotropic recoil velocity distribution peaking at low kinetic energies but extending to the energetic limit allowed by energy conservation given a ground state dissociation energy D0(Myl–H) ~24 000 cm-1. These latter H atoms are attributed to the unimolecular decay of highly vibrationally excited S0 parent molecules. The companion electronic structure calculations provide rationales for both fragmentation pathways and the accompanying product energy disposals, and highlight similarities and differences between the UV photochemistry of methimazole and that of other azoles (e.g. imidazole) and with molecules like thiourea and thiouracil that contain similar N–C=S motifs.

Multi-contact switch using double-dressing regularity of probe, fluorescence, and six-wave mixing in a Rydberg atom
摘要: In this paper, we study the realization of a multi-contact switch using the double-dressing regularity of probe, fluorescence, and six-wave mixing signals in a five-level 85Rb atomic system. For the first time, we compare the dressing regularity of Rydberg states by observing electromagnetically induced transparency and signals. With the scanning probe and dressing fields, both large and small line shifts in signals are observed. The small line shifts are induced by double-dressed line shifts. Also, the big line shifts result from the Rydberg dressing. In addition, with an increase in the principal quantum number n of the Rydberg state, all the signals become weaker, while the line shifts of the signals become enhanced. Using the regularity in line shifts of the signals and an acoustic optical modulator to modulate the frequency detuning, we can realize a multi-contact switch action and fast conversion between different contacts.

: From quantum dots to bulk crystals and additional boundary conditions for Rydberg exciton-polaritons
摘要: We propose schemes for calculation of optical functions of a semiconductor with Rydberg excitons for a wide interval of dimensions. We have started with a zero-dimensional structure (quantum dot), then going to one-dimensional (quantum wire), two-dimensional (quantum wells and wide quantum wells), and ?nally three-dimensional bulk crystals; our analytical ?ndings are illustrated numerically, showing an agreement with available experimental data. Calculations including exciton-polaritons are performed; the case of a large number of polariton branches is discussed, and obtained theoretical absorption spectra show good agreement with experimental data.
