    摘要: Non-isolated step-down converters are widely used as auxiliary power supplies. Active and passive components are usually integrated in a single chip in the industry. High power density and high efficiency are always the most important requirements. High switching frequency, such as megahertz (MHz), can highly shrink the volume of passive components compared with kilohertz frequency, however, it will cause huge switching loss for hard switching converters. Zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) is able to highly reduce switching loss, especially under high frequency. In this paper, three ZVS buck-type converters operating at MHz frequency, including conventional buck, tapped-inductor buck and hybrid resonant buck converter, are compared. Finally, three hardware prototypes using gallium-nitride (GaN) devices with 24-48 V input and 3-A/5-V output are demonstrated and compared in terms of efficiency, size and thermal performance.

  • A Soft-switched, Multiport Photovoltaic Power Optimizer with Integrated Storage Interface and Output Voltage Regulation

    摘要: This paper proposed a multiport converter (MPC) configuration for photovoltaic (PV)-battery system. In the battery charging and discharging circuits are integrated with the PV power optimizer through high frequency AC link. The proposed converter system is capable of regulating the output voltage, following battery charging profile and tracking the maximum power point (MPP) of each PV module. Variable switching frequency is used to achieve MPPT in this design. All the switches of the converter are able to achieve soft-switching turn on and turn off at different operating conditions. The operating principles and the control strategy of the proposed converter are presented. Simulation results and experimental results on a 175W system are presented to validate the features of the proposed converter.

    摘要: A modified soft-switched boost converter with a lower number of auxiliary components is proposed in this paper that provides either zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) or zero-current-transition (ZCT) operation for main switch and diode. Proposed converter is utilized in a single-phase grid-tied photovoltaic power generation system. Due to importance of maximum power harvesting from PV, incremental conductance MPPT procedure is employed to control DC/DC converter. Simulation is performed in PLECS software to validate the advantageous introduced soft-switching technique.

    摘要: The Renewable energy source like solar Photovoltaic is desired to be worked at low voltages. For grid-tied applications, it requires high voltage conversion which results in a reduced efficiency. In this work, zero-voltage switching (ZVS) based dc-dc converter with high step-up active clamped coupled inductor is presented for grid-tied solar photovoltaic applications. For achieving high conversion ratio switched capacitor cell is inserted to coupled inductor secondary winding. With this combination, the difficulties of leakage inductance are overcome. The active clamp circuit is incorporated to overwhelm the voltage spikes across the switches and also to implement the ZVS operation for switching devices. Simulation results for the proposed dc-dc converter are presented with the theoretical analysis.

  • High step-up fully soft switched interleaved Sheppard-Taylor converter with only one auxiliary switch for PV application

    摘要: This paper presents a high step-up fully soft switching interleaved Sheppard-Taylor converter to be used in PV applications. The proposed converter utilizes only one auxiliary switch to create the soft switching conditions for all semiconductor devices. The converter has a simple structure, and its control circuit remains PWM. Moreover, the auxiliary switch is not located in the main power path; therefore, the conduction losses are decreased, and the overall e?ciency is improved. Besides, the rate of the auxiliary switch current will be very low. On the other hand, the proposed converter has a high-voltage gain. Furthermore, all switches and other circuit elements have low current stress due to the interleaved structure in the proposed converter. The guidelines for the design consideration are presented. A 250 W, 25–250 V laboratory prototype operating at 100 kHz is implemented to verify the performance of the converter and an e?ciency of 96% at full load can be achieved.

  • GaN Transistors for Efficient Power Conversion || Resonant and Soft-Switching Converters

    摘要: The previous chapter addressed the application of GaN transistors in hard-switching power converters, and we demonstrated the benefits that GaN transistors provide – as compared to state-of-the-art silicon power MOSFETs. In this chapter, we discuss the fundamentals of resonant and soft-switching applications and evaluate the superior performance capabilities of GaN transistors over silicon MOSFETs in these applications. The chapter will conclude with a design example comparing GaN transistors and Si MOSFETs in an isolated, high-frequency 48 V intermediate bus converter (IBC) with a 12 V output, utilizing a resonant topology operating at 1.2 MHz.

  • A level shifted asymmetric duty cycle controlled half-bridge series resonant LED driver configuration

    摘要: This paper proposes an e?cient LED lamp converter circuit incorporating dimming feature and multiple lamp independent control. The converter consists of a half-bridge resonant converter in series with a DC source. This converter operates at 200 kHz. Soft switching is employed with resonant power conversion. With modulation of the low frequency pulse width, the dimming feature is incorporated. The proposed con?guration provides lower voltage stress for switching devices as well as lower switching losses resulting in increased e?ciency. It is possible to independently control the current of each lamp. For two lamps operating in parallel with a total power of 25 W, a laboratory prototype has been designed. It can be used in residential applications. The proposed circuit is presented with detailed operation of the circuit, simulation and experimental results.

    摘要: The current-fed dual active bridge (CF-DAB) dc–dc converter gains growing applications in photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems due to its advantages, e.g., a wide input voltage range, a high step-up ratio, a low input current ripple, and a multiport interface capability. In addition, the direct input current controllability and extra control freedom of the CF-DAB converter make it possible to buffer the double-line-frequency energy in grid-interactive PV systems without using electrolytic capacitors in the dc link. Therefore, a PV system achieves high reliability and highly ef?cient maximum power point tracking. This paper studies the optimized operation of a CF-DAB converter for a PV application in order to improve the system ef?ciency. The operating principle and soft-switching conditions over the wide operating range are thoroughly analyzed with phase-shift control and duty-cycle control, and an optimized operating mode is proposed to achieve the minimum root-mean-square transformer current. The proposed operating mode can extend the soft-switching region and reduce the power loss, particularly under a heavy load and a high input voltage. Moreover, the ef?ciency can be further improved with a higher dc-link voltage. A 5-kW hardware prototype was built in the laboratory, and experimental results are provided for veri?cation. This paper provides a design guideline for the CF-DAB converter applied to PV systems, as well as other applications with a wide input voltage variation.
