  • Solar radiation exergy and quality performance for Iraq and Turkey

    摘要: The present study is conducted with two primary objectives: First, a new formulation for the maximum efficiency of the solar radiation conversion is developed by considering the radiative energy transfer between two surfaces at different temperatures for a constant volume system. Second, a new methodology is introduced for estimating the exergy value of the monthly average daily horizontal global radiation, including many parameters, such as monthly average daily value of the horizontal extraterrestrial radiation, the number of sunny hours, the day length, the mean temperature and the mean wind velocity. Seven statistical parameters are used to validate the accuracy of all models. The results of the two new models are found to be more reliable than the results obtained from other models. This study, which was conducted for four locations in Iraq and Turkey. The findings would help in predicting the maximum availability of solar radiation based on weather parameters.

  • Energy and exergy analysis of solar heat driven chiller under wide system boundary conditions

    摘要: In the paper, a solar driven ammonia-water chiller is investigated, as one of the systems having potential for reduction of resources depletion. An energy and exergy analysis is proposed for correct diagnostics while designing and operating the cycle. The boundary conditions for the analyses are set in accordance with Professor Szargut’s primary instructions. They are however widened to solar collector component. Solar radiation is treated as the driving energy or exergy, respectively. The analyses are supplemented with a sensitivity diagnosis revealing the most significant parameters modifying the efficiency and irreversibilities distribution. According to the findings, design COP of the chiller equals 0.444 while its net exergy efficiency is 0.026. Solar collector component is the most burdened with exergy destruction and loss in the whole cycle.

  • Energy-exergy modeling of solar radiation with most influencing input parameters

    摘要: In this study, a new soft computing model Gaussian process regression (GPR) was evaluated for modeling the total solar radiation (TSR) and exergy (Ф) in Hakkari province (the region with the highest sunshine duration), Turkey. For this purpose, meteorological data include average, maximum and minimum temperature (Tave, Tmax, Tmin), relative humidity (H), sea level pressure (P), wind speed (W), and total sunbathing time (TST), wihch were used, and sensitivity analysis was applied for evaluating the results of TSR and Ф modeling. The results showed that all the input variables have significant impact on TSR and Ф modeling. Mean absolute percentage error and coefficient of determination (R2) for TSR and Ф predicted by GPR were 1.51–7.02% and 0.97–0.95, respectively. Application of five-fold cross validation method showed that GPR model is able to predict the TSR and Ф with a small size of data, but for more accuracy, it is suggested to use more than 70% of total data set for training the models. This research showed that GPR has a good ability for modeling the TSR and Ф with high accuracy, and so the engineers can use this method for the TSR and Ф prediction without using the solar radiation or exergy-to-energy ratio.
