Submicron laser-textured vents for self-cleaning injection molds
摘要: Clogging of venting slots in injection molds is a common maintenance problem caused by the degradation and the accumulation of gaseous and volatiles by-products of polymer melting. In this work, the effect of laser-induced periodic surface structures on the self-cleaning properties of venting slots is investigated. The degradation of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) over different surfaces is characterized by reproducing the mechanisms that occurs in mold cavities when the air is pushed through the venting channel. An imaging technique is developed for the quantification of the sediment that deposits on sample surfaces due to condensation of by-products of PET melting. The experimental results indicate that the use of a multiscale texture minimizes the deposition of residues on the vent surface reducing it from 17.2 to 3.1%. A linear dependency between contact angle and clogging ratio indicates the efficacy of the model that explains vent self-cleaning properties considering their wetting properties.

Polarization-sensitive photoresponse of the CuSe/Se nanocomposite prepared by vacuum thermal deposition
摘要: We report on the generation of the polarization-sensitive photocurrent in the thin film of the CuSe/Se nanocomposite irradiated by femtosecond pulses of Ti:S laser. CuSe/Se bilayer consisting of nanocrystalline CuSe and amorphous Se films was obtained using successive deposition of Cu and Se on a glass substrate in the course of vacuum thermal evaporation. Synthesized bilayers were characterized using optical transmittance and Raman spectroscopy, optical, atomic force and scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometry. It is demonstrated that in the longitudinal configuration, the photocurrent propagating along the plane of incidence is maximum for the p- and vanishes for the s-polarized excitation beam. In the transverse configuration, the photocurrent propagating perpendicular to the plane of incidence is an odd function of the polarization azimuth of the linearly polarized excitation beam and vanishes when it is either p- or s-polarized. We show that for an elliptically polarized excitation beam the polarity of the transverse photocurrent reverses when rotation direction of the electric field vector changes. Both longitudinal and transverse photocurrents are odd functions of the angle of incidence and can be explained in terms of the surface photogalvanic effect.

Optimized preparation of Co-Pi decorated g-C3N4@ZnO shell-core nanorod array for its improved photoelectrochemical performance and stability
摘要: The cobalt-phosphate (Co-Pi) decorated g-C3N4@ZnO shell-core nanorod array (Co-Pi/g-C3N4@ZnO NRA) photoanode with broadened spectral response and optimized photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance was prepared. The g-C3N4@ZnO NRA was prepared via improved urea impregnation and calcination methods in semi enclosed environment. The g-C3N4 flexible slice shell was uniformly wrapped on ZnO nanorods core and the intimately contacted heterojunction was formed between the interface of g-C3N4 and ZnO. The g-C3N4@ZnO NRA promotes the separation and transfer of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs on g-C3N4 and ZnO under either visible light or white light illumination. The prepared g-C3N4@ZnO NRA was further electrodeposited with Co-Pi nanoparticles (NPs). The Co-Pi NPs can assist in the consumption of the photoinduced holes as well as pull the Fermi level potential of g-C3N4@ZnO NRAs towards the positive direction, resulting in the upward band bending at the band-edge position for Co-Pi/g-C3N4@ZnO NRAs and promoting the separation efficiency of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Consequently, the Co-Pi/g-C3N4@ZnO NRA exhibits an improved PEC performance under both visible light and white light illumination. In addition, g-C3N4 flexible slice shell decorated with Co-Pi NPs covered on the surface of ZnO NRAs core improved the stability of the ZnO NRA photoanode.
