  • Precoding and Detection for Broadband Single Carrier Terahertz Massive MIMO Systems Using LSQR Algorithm

    摘要: The terahertz (THz) communication utilizes the frequency spectrum above 300 GHz and is widely considered as a promising solution to the future high-speed short-range wireless communication beyond millimeter wave (mmWave) communication. While providing tens of gigahertz bandwidth, it is subjected to high propagation path loss, inter-symbol and inter-user interferences. The massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) can be applied to address these problems by cooperation between many access point (AP) antennas. However, the THz channel characteristics, including high propagation path loss, frequency selectivity and big number of samples per channel impulse response (CIR), require carefully tailored algorithm for massive MIMO signal processing. In this paper, we propose a single carrier minimum mean square error (MMSE) precoding and detection algorithm for frequency selective THz channels. The MIMO signal transmission is described with the block matrices. A gain control heuristic is introduced to reduce the complexity. The sparsity property of the channel is utilized to construct sparse channel matrices and the least square QR (LSQR) algorithm is applied to efficiently solve the problems. Besides the uniform antenna array, the hybrid array consisting of several subarrays is considered as well. Simulation results show that the massive MIMO array can provide a satisfactory performance in terms of bit error rate (BER).

  • Spectral efficiency optimization for intelligent reflecting surface aided multi-input multi-output terahertz system

    摘要: Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) is considered as a promising application in terahertz (THz) communications since it is able to enhance the THz communication with no additional power consumptions. In this letter, we consider a downlink multi-input multi-output system, where a base station (BS) communicates to a user with the aid of the IRS. Our goal is to optimize the spectral efficiency by designing discrete phase-shifts at the IRS and the precoder at the BS, which is an intractable nonconvex optimization problem. To solve it, we approximate the problem into another form where we maximize the sum of path gains by designing the phase-shifts of the IRS, and we propose a cross-entropy based algorithm to search the optimal IRS phase-shifts matrix. After that, we use the classical singular value decomposition and water-filling solution to design the optimal precoder.

    摘要: In this work, the experimental investigation of electromagnetic wave scattering by statistically controlled rough surfaces in the lower THz band is demonstrated. Rough surfaces with height fluctuations following normal statistics are fabricated using two different 3D printing techniques. The results presented here confirm that the surface roughness has a noticeable effect on the level of the diffuse scattering energy. In the future, the applied method can be used to validate analytical models as well as to gain scattering patterns from more complicated rough surface structures which fall outside the limits of most analytical approximations.

    摘要: This paper reports on characterization and performance evaluation of a 1-m 220-260 GHz tunable carrier wireless link with highly-integrated direct-conversion quadrature TX/RX modules implemented in 0.13μm SiGe HBT technology with ft/fmax of 350/550 GHz. Under limited IF bandwidth constraints of 15 GHz, the maximum achieved data rates for BPSK/QPSK modulation schemes are 35 Gbps with an EVM of 28.9 % and 65 Gbps with an EVM of 31.5 %, respectively. It is further found that the current link performance is not limited by the AWGN-related SNR but mainly affected by the RF front-end imperfections related to large operation bandwidth.
