摘要: Increased use of power in telecommunication networks has not only increased the cost of operation but also increased the carbon footprint and the environmental hazards. In this paper, we propose models for evaluating power saving techniques in flexible passive optical access networks. In addition, the power model of their sleep modes are proposed and are extended to analyse the power saving potentials of state-of-art dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) algorithms like sleep mode aware (SMA) and hybrid sleep mode aware (HSMA).

摘要: The power consumption of ring topologies (both unidirectional and bidirectional) with Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexed Passive Optical Network (TWDM PON) is analyzed in the literature. The Optical Network Unit (ONU), the user device, it is noted that is to be switched ON through the scheduling algorithm the polling polling cycles. Hence, considered for the chosen PON will play a major role in determining the amount of power consumption. Therefore, in this paper, the fixed and Load Adaptive Sequence Arrangement (LASA) polling scheduling algorithms are considered for the adoption of sleep mode for ONU to reduce power consumption in the ring topologies. Through the scheduling algorithms, the provision to transit the ONU to sleep mode is discussed for various network loads observed at the ONUs. A maximum of 18% reduction in power consumption with a fixed polling sequence and 9.27% reduction in power consumption with LASA polling sequence is observed.

摘要: We experimentally study data suppression characteristics of a semiconductor optical amplifier with a Faraday rotator mirror used for wavelength-reuse WDM-PON. Bidirectional transmission over 10 km assisted by spectral trimming using a Fabry-Perot etalon is demonstrated.

Scenarios and Economic Analysis of Fronthaul in 5G Optical Networks
摘要: This work presents a techno-economical comparison between different emerging architectural approaches for 5G networks: C-RAN, centralized, where a BBU hotel collects several streams, able to meet challenging requirements imposed by emerging 5G technology and DA-RAN, considered as an evolution of C-RAN, where resources are disaggregated in order to satisfy the requirements of different applications. Main results, obtained by an analytical evaluation of the cost of a metropolitan area network, show that disaggregating the hardware and software radio access network brings architectural and functional advantages, able to better meet the bandwidth and latency requirements imposed by the 5G verticals. Once analyzed the validness of the solution, we provide a cost analysis that firstly demonstrates that DA-RAN also brings economic advantages w.r.t. C-RAN. Furthermore, observing that the predominant share of the cost of the solution is given by the fiber of the local loop, we evaluate the introduction of TWDM PON in this area in order to share the fiber and reduce the cost of the network.
