    摘要: We present a novel distributed feedback fiber laser (DFB-FL) fiber laser sensor, which can measure static magnetic field through sweep acoustic wave. A fiber laser is bonded on the giant magnetostrictive material Terfenol-D (Tb0.3Dy0.7Fe1.92) tube oriented along the longitudinal direction. When acoustic wave of different frequency is added to the fiber laser, it has the maximum response at its resonant frequency, which will vary with the external magnetic field. The measurement sensitivity of the sensor is 0.39 Hz/mT to the magnetic field. The experimental results also show that the sensor exhibits excellent linearity and directivity in response to static magnetic field.

  • Model and Experimental Study on Optical Fiber CT Based on Terfenol-D

    摘要: A nonlinear hysteresis model of magneto-mechanical-thermo coupling for Terfenol-D materials is presented according to Wiss ferromagnetic theory, thermodynamics relations and Jiles–Atherton model. Numerical calculation and experimental results show that the mode well reflects the magnetostrictive characteristics of Terfenol-D rod under the coupling of stress, temperature and magnetic field. A fiber Bragg grating current transformer based on Terfenol-D material is designed according to the strain sensing mechanism of fiber Bragg grating and the demodulation principle of unbalanced M–Z interferometer. The theoretical analysis and research on the working characteristics of the fiber current transformer under the influence of different prestressing force and bias current are carried out. The results are important for the design and application of the current transformer with the Terfenol-D material.

    摘要: A measurement system is built to measure the magnetostrictive strain of giant magnetostrictionmaterial. The system based on the laser displacement method includes the dual laser devices, the electromagnet and the control unit. The system has the characteristics of non-contact, overall and accurate measurement. The electromagnet is used to generate the magnetic field of 5000 Oe. The magnetostrictive-strain curve of Terbium-dysprosium-iron (Terfenol-D) samples are measured. The uncertainty of magnetostrictive strain is less than 2.5% (k=2).

    摘要: A method to compensate the temperature influence on electrical current sensors based on fiber Bragg gratings (FBG) is presented in this paper. The operating principle of the method is the employment of a second fiber Bragg grating in the measurement system, called fixed filter, in order to interrogate the output signal from the sensing grating. Once both gratings have been attached to Terfenol-D rods close to each other and subjected to the same temperature variations inside a protective cover, the separation of magnetostrictive strain from the one related to temperature in the output signal can be obtained.

  • Magnetic Optical FBG Sensors Using Optical Frequency-Domain Reflectometry

    摘要: The optical frequency-domain reflectometry (OFDR) sensing system and signal processing method, which is based on the short-time Fourier transform, enable us to interrogate reflected wavelengths of fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) and their relative position along the optical fiber with high spatial resolution. An FBG is an optical fiber with an appropriately inscribed periodic refractive index modulation. When a broadband optical signal is launched into the FBG, narrow wavelength bandwidth is reflected. Due to an attached transducer, such as Terfenol-D, the reflected wavelength changes with the applied magnetic field. The proposed magnetic FBG sensor consists of a small rod of magnetostrictive alloy TbDyFe, also known as Terfenol-D, which has large magnetostriction. The FBG is attached to the Terfenol-D rod with UV glue. Consequently, the external magnetic field is applied to the sensor and as a result, the Terfenol-D rod length increases. The reflected wavelength shift is observed and measured by the OFDR sensing system. Therefore, we determine the external magnetic field along the optical fiber from the reflected Bragg wavelength shift. The measurement results show that the proposed magnetic field sensors based on Terfenol-D using OFDR can be successfully used for measurement of the external magnetic field along an optical fiber.
