  • Non-radiation creation of complex centers in wide-gap oxide crystals

    摘要: It is shown that complex aggregate centers of oxygen divacancy type (F2 centers) and interstitial aluminum type near the anion vacancy (Ali+) are formed in anion-deficient crystals of corundum (α-Al2O3-δ) and beryllium oxide (BeO1-δ) under thermo-optical treatment (TOT). These centers are similar to those created in stoichiometric α-Al2O3 and BeO crystals under neutron irradiation. It is important to note that thermal stability of the TOT-created complex centers is higher than that of similar neutron-induced centers. It is also established that the probability of their formation is related to the temperature of the TOT, the wavelength of the stimulating light, and the initial anionic deficiency manifested as F+ and F centers (anion vacancies with one and two electrons, respectively).

  • Structural, photoluminescence and thermoluminescence study of novel Li+ co-activated lanthanum oxide activated with Dy3+ and Eu3+ obtained by microwave-assisted solution combustion synthesis

    摘要: Stimulated luminescence of novel La2O3 nanophosphors doped with Dy3+ and Eu3+ and co-activated with Li+, prepared by microwave-assisted solution combustion synthesis, was investigated for the very first time. X-ray diffraction results indicated hexagonal La2O3 crystalline phase. Lanthanide and Li+ doping did not affect the La2O3 crystal structure. Scanning electron microscopy images showed nanoparticle morphologies such as plates, rods and irregular shapes. Photoluminescence spectra of La2O3:Dy3+, Li+ exhibited blue and green emission bands due to Dy3+ transitions. For La2O3:Eu3+, Li+, sharp emission lines, corresponding to the optical transitions of Eu3+ were observed. Thermoluminescence glow curve of La2O3:Dy3+, Li+ previously exposed to beta radiation exhibited a prominent glow peak located at ~46 °C, possibly useful for after-glow or persistent luminescence applications, whereas La2O3:Eu3+, Li+ curve, displayed three intense peaks at ~50, ~110 and ~150 °C. Thermoluminescent signal repeatability and decay curve asymptotic behaviour could place La2O3:Eu3+, Li+ as suitable for medium and high-dose radiation dosimetry applications.

  • Observation of strong thermally transferred optically stimulated luminescence (TT-OSL) in BeO

    摘要: This work reports the observation of strong thermally transferred optically stimulated luminescence (TT-OSL) signal of BeO OSL ceramic detectors. If the detector is irradiated and the OSL signal is measured for a prolonged time (bleached), subsequent OSL measurements result in zero signal. If the same detector, however, is heated to temperatures in the 225 – 335 °C range (at 5 °C/s), subsequent OSL measurements at room temperature result in an intense signal, even without additional irradiation. The TT-OSL is maximum for a pre-heating to 275 °C (if heated linearly at 5 °C/s), reaching a value of 56 % of the original OSL signal. Both OSL and TT-OSL are reproducible (~3 % standard deviation) and linear with dose over the dose range investigated (up to 100 mGy). The shape of the OSL and TT-OSL curves are essentially identical. A possible explanation for this phenomenon is the thermally stimulated transfer of trapped charges from optically inactive traps to optically active traps responsible for the OSL signal. Correlation between the OSL, TT-OSL and the thermoluminescence (TL) peaks suggests the trapping centers associated with the TL peak at ~310 °C/s (at 5 °C/s) as the source of the trapped charges. These results have implication for the re-estimation of the OSL signal in BeO detectors accidentally exposed to light. Not only they provide further evidence that the material is not completely reset simply by bleaching (optical stimulation), but open a new line of investigation into the underlying TL/OSL mechanisms in BeO.

  • Characterization and thermoluminescence behavior of beta irradiated NaBaBO3 phosphor synthesized by combustion method

    摘要: NaBaBO3 host material was synthesized using the combustion method. In order to optimize the performance of the material, effects of sintering temperatures varying from 600 to 1000 °C were investigated. The sintering temperature and dwell time were found to have pronounced effects on the pure NaBaBO3 material. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques were used to confirm the phase formation and examine the surface morphology of the prepared powder material, respectively. TL behavior of NaBaBO3 was studied at various beta doses. It is seen that the sample exhibits well resolved TL glow peak at a peak temperature about 175 °C and corresponding TL intensity increases with the increasing beta dose. However, TL glow peak slightly shifts to lower temperature with the increasing beta dose level. This is the first TL report of a phosphor with a NaBaBO3 host. The TL kinetic parameters were estimated by the peak shape (PS) method and CGCD software. TL glow curves of NaBaBO3 consist of several traps and exhibited second order kinetics. A possible TL mechanism was also discussed using the energy level model. The obtained results can provide valuable knowledge related to the investigation of the intrinsic nature characteristics of NaBaBO3 in research fields pertaining to dosimetry.

  • Evolution of shapes and identification of level II and III features of fingerprints using CaZrO3:Sm3+ fluorescent markers prepared via solution combustion route

    摘要: Simple solution combustion route is used for the fabrication of CaZrO3: Sm3+ (1–11 mol %) nanophosphors using Aloe Vera gel as a fuel. The powder X-ray diffraction profiles confirm the pure orthorhombic phase. The granular type particles with non-uniformity in the size is observed. Photoluminescence emission spectra exhibit intense peaks at ~571, 603, 651 and 708 nm, which are attributed to 4G5/2 → 6H5/2, 4G5/2 → 6H7/2, 4G5/2 → 6H9/2 and 4G5/2 → 6H11/2 transitions of Sm3+ ions, respectively. The photometric properties evident that the prepared samples emit bright orange - red light with 79% color purity. The average correlated color temperature value is found to be ~3100 K. Thermoluminescence glow curves exhibit a broad, intense peak at ~148 °C. The highest thermoluminescence intensity is recorded for 5 mol % of Sm3+ doped sample. The thermoluminescence intensity at ~148 °C is found to increase with increase of γ-dose. The optimized CaZrO3:Sm3+ (5 mol %) nanophosphors used as a luminescent labeling agent for visualization latent fingerprints on various porous and non-porous surfaces under ultraviolet 254 nm and normal light. The obtained results exhibits well defined ridge details with high sensitivity, selectivity, and low background hindrance which showed greater advantages. Extensive fingerprint details, namely level II and III features are clearly revealed. Hence, aforementioned results evident that the optimized sample endorse wide spread of applications, namely solid state lighting, high temperature dosimetry and advanced forensic science fields.

  • Paramagnetic surface defects in LiMgPO<sub>4</sub>

    摘要: The EPR spectra obtained at 300 K and 115 K are indicative of the existence of charged defects in LiMgPO4. The main imperfections are identified as a radical CO-3 (g=2) and a singly charged oxygen vacancy (g1=2.45, g2=2.20, g3=2.00). The presence of carbon-containing groups is proved by Raman spectroscopy. The assumption is made that the defects are located mainly on the surface of the grains. Thermoluminescent characteristics of LiMgPO4 annealed in atmospheres with different pO2 demonstrate that the surface defects impair the efficiency of LiMgPO4 as a dosimetric material.

  • Effects of sintering temperature on the microstructure and luminescence of LuAG:Pr ceramics

    摘要: The effects of the sintering temperature on the microstructure and luminescence of Lu3Al5O12:Pr (LuAG:Pr) ceramics was investigated by density, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), grain size, attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR FTIR), photoluminescence (PL), radioluminescence (RL), and thermoluminescence (TL) measurements. A Czochralski-grown single crystal was used as reference. The increase of the sintering temperature promoted progressive structural modifications toward the characteristics of the single crystal. The presence of an amorphous phase was strongly detrimental to the luminescence of LuAG:Pr, with its elimination leading to enhanced RL and reduced TL emission. Evidence of synergism between the F-related defects and the Pr3+ 4f - 4f and 4f - 5d transitions was also found with the presence of these defects being detrimental to the 4f - 5d scintillation.

  • Role of electron and hole centers in energy transfer in BaBrI crystals

    摘要: In this paper we study a role of F-centers, hole centers and excitons in energy transfer in Eu-doped BaBrI crystals. Optical absorption spectra, thermally stimulated (TSL) and photostimulated (PSL) luminescence in wide temperature range 7-300 K are studied in undoped and doped with different concentrations of Eu ions BaBrI crystals. Based on experimental and calculated results two possible energy tranfer processes from host to Eu2+ ions are established.

  • Cathodoluminescence and thermoluminescence of ZnB2O4:Eu3+ phosphors prepared via wet-chemical synthesis

    摘要: In present work, a series of Eu doped zinc borate, ZnB2O4, phosphors prepared via wet chemical synthesis and their structural, surface morphology, cathodoluminescence (CL) and thermoluminescence (TL) properties have been studied. Phase purity and crystal structure of as-prepared samples are con?rmed by X-ray di?raction measurements (XRD) and they were well consistent with PDF card No. 39-1126, indicating the formation of pure phase. The thermoluminescence (TL) behaviors of Eu activated ZnB2O4 host lattice are studied for various beta doses ranging from 0.1 to 10 Gy. The high-temperature peak of Eu activated sample located at 192 °C exhibited a linear dose response in the range of 0.1–10 Gy. Initial rise (IR) and peak shape (PS) methods were used to determine the activation energies of the trapping centres. The e?ects of the variable heating rate on TL behaviour of Eu activated ZnB2O4 were also studied. When excited using an electron beam induced light emission (i.e cathodoluminescence, CL) at room temperature (RT), the as-prepared phosphors generate reddish-orange color due to predominant emission peaks of Eu3+ ions located at 576–710 nm assigned to the 5D0→7FJ (J=1,2,3, and 4) transitions. The maximum CL intensity for Eu3+ ions at 614 nm with transition 5D0→7F2 was reached Eu3+ concentration of 5 mol%; quenching occurred at higher concentrations. Strong emission peak for Eu3+ ions at 614 nm with transition 5D0→7F2 is observed. The CL experimental data indicate that ZnB2O4:Eu3+ phosphor as an orange-red emitting phosphor may be promising luminescence materials for the optoelectronic applications.

  • High Charge Carrier Storage Capacity in Lithium Lutetium Silicate Doped with Cerium and Thulium

    摘要: It is demonstrated that LiLuSiO4:Ce,Tm has excellent charge carrier storage properties. Comparative studies are performed with the state-of-the art X-ray storage phosphor BaFBr(I):Eu. The thermoluminescence (TL) intensity of the optimized LiLuSiO4:Ce,Tm is four times higher than the TL of BaFBr(I):Eu. After 3 h of storage at room temperature (RT) there is still 94% of initial thermoluminescence and only 48% for BaFBr(I):Eu which demonstrates insignificant thermal fading. The signal can be read out by a blue LED and less efficiently by a red laser. It does require higher stimulation energy than in the case of BaFBr(I):Eu. The self-irradiation with a dose rate of 13 mGy h due to 176Lu isotopes is not a serious drawback for application.
