Design strategy for ferroelectric-based polar metals with dimensionality-tunable electronic states
摘要: Since LiOsO3 was discovered, obtaining easy-accessible polar metals for research and applications has been challenging. In this paper, we present a multilayer design strategy, which is configured as ferroelectric layer/carrier reservoir layer/isolation layer/substrate, for obtaining polar metals by electrostatically doping a strained ferroelectric material in a more effective way. In the proposed configuration, both 1 unit-cell thick BaTiO3 and PbTiO3 exhibited considerable Ti off-centering with various strains, which should extend the applicability of ferroelectric-based polar metals in ultra-thin devices. Moreover, engineered by the compressive strain and the BaTiO3 thickness, the design strategy effectively achieved polar metallicity and dimensionality-tunable electronic states associated with the modulation of highly anisotropic properties such as electrical and electronic thermal conductivity, which may be helpful for designing ultra-thin, ultrafast, and low-power switch devices.

Central Composite Design (CCD) Optimized Synthesis of Fe3O4@SiO2@AgCl/Ag/Ag2S as a Novel Magnetic Nano-Photocatalyst for Catalytic Degradation of Organic Pollutants
摘要: In this study, we formulated and synthesized an efficient visible light-active magnetic nano-photocatalyst, Fe3O4@SiO2@AgCl/Ag/Ag2S, to decompose methyl orange (MO) as a model organic pollutant. XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, DRS, and VSM analyses were used to characterize the developed magnetic nano-photocatalyst. Moreover, central composite design (CCD) modeling, which is based on response surface methodology (RSM) modeling, is utilized to optimize the synthetic and operating conditions to maximize the photocataytic performance. The CCD-optimized values for molar ratio of AgCl to Fe3O4, molar ratio of Ag2S to Fe3O4, and the photocatalyst dosage are found to be 0.8, 0.27, and 1.27 g/L, respectively. The developed Fe3O4@SiO2@AgCl/Ag/Ag2S nano-photocatalyst shows a superior photocatalytic activity in decomposition of MO, degrading around 90% and 99% of MO in 30 min and one hour, respectively, under visible light illumination, at which the predicted values are in a good agreement with the experimental values (R2=0.971 and Adj-R2=0.945). Meanwhile, the morphological, physicochemical, and magnetic properties of the developed nano-photocatalyst are largely retained over ten successive cycles of photocatalytic reactions, and no significant decline in the photocatalytic activity is observed.

Approach in companding-quantisation-inspired PAM constellation design
摘要: In this study, a very simple but successful method for designing the pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM) constellations with non-equiprobable symbols and not equally spaced amplitudes is presented. The method, inspired by companding quantisation, introduces a constellation design function having a feature that maps the non-uniformly distributed constellations points into uniform ones. In particular, two classes of piecewise-linear constellation design function having two segments are provided. In PAM constellation designed by the proposed method, the set of constellation points is divided into two uniform subsets. Each of these subsets is characterised by a certain probability of constellation points and by a constant distance between adjacent points. For this model of PAM constellation, the formulas that enable the elegant assessment of the signal energy and the symbol error probability are derived. Results obtained analytically and verified through simulations show that, in terms of the symbol error probability, the proposed PAM constellations outperforms conventional uniform PAM constellation as well as the other models of piecewise-uniform PAM constellations.

Fiber Bragg grating-based biomimetic whisker for shape and texture recognition
摘要: This paper introduces a novel shape and texture recognizing technique based on the design of bionic whisker. Whisker arrays are installed on both sides of the robot. In the experiment, the whisker sweeps around to detect the unidenti?ed object. The center wavelength of ?ber Bragg grating (FBG) pasted on the whisker shifts when the whisker touches the obstacle. Shape recognition is realized by processing and further calculating the wavelength shift data. At the same time, the whisker sweeps over the surface texture, and the texture information is obtained by processing the wavelength shift data with the time-frequency analysis method. The results show that the whisker sensor can identify the three-dimensional pro?le shapes of contacted objects and the texture features of touched surfaces e?ectively.

摘要: In this preliminary study, a new cognitive vision architecture of a Polarimetric Dynamic Vision Sensor ( pDVS), is presented. The system consists of a neuromorphic camera coupled to polarization filters; a spinning wheel, namely, a light modulating wheel, operating at different speeds, is placed in front a static object. The detector system performance against different modulating speeds, under unpolarized and polarized conditions, has been tested, data were acquired and then analyzed. The outcome of this study indicates that enhanced temporal contrast resolution can be achieved, while offering unique discrimination capabilities, depending upon the light polarization states.

The effect of the optical design of multifocal contact lenses on choroidal thickness
摘要: Studies have found reduced myopia progression with multifocal contact lenses, albeit with an unclear mechanism behind their protective effect. It is hypothesized that the induced myopic defocus of the addition zones of the multifocal contact lenses leads to choroidal thickening and therefore inhibits eye growth. In the current study, the effect of the optical design of multifocal contact lenses on choroidal thickness was investigated. Eighteen myopic participants wore four different contact lenses ((1) single-vision lenses corrected for distance, (2) single-vision lenses with +2.50 D full-field defocus, (3) Multifocal center-distance design, (4) Multifocal center-near design, both with addition power +2.50 D) for 30 min each on their right eye. Automated analysis of the macular choroidal thickness and vitreous chamber depth were performed before and after the wear of each of the contact lenses. Peripheral refraction profiles in primary gaze were obtained using eccentric photorefraction prior to contact lens wear. Choroidal thickness and vitreous chamber depth showed no significant differences to baseline with any of the contact lenses (all p > 0.05). Choroidal thickness increased by +2.1 ± 11.1 μm with the Multifocal center-distance design, by +2.0 ± 11.1 μm with the full-field defocus lens, followed by the Multifocal center-near design with +1.6 ± 11.3 μm and the single-vision contact lens correcting for distance with +0.9 ± 11.2 μm. Multifocal contact lenses have no significant influence on choroidal thickness after short-term wear. Therefore, changes in choroidal thickness might not be the main contributor to the protective effect of multifocal contact lenses in myopia control.

摘要: A global paradigm shift to redefine the International System of Units (SI) from a system based on seven fundamental units to seven fundamental constants is well under way. More specifically, the unit of mass, the kilogram, will be realized via a fixed value of the Planck constant h and a Kibble balance (KB) serves as a method of achieving this. Over the past few decades, national metrology institutes around the world have invested in developing KBs, the majority aimed at realizing the unit of mass at the 1-kg level with uncertainties on the order of a few parts in 108. However, upon fixing the Planck constant, mass can be directly realized at any level, deeming the kilogram only a historically unique benchmark. At the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), a tabletop-sized Kibble balance (KIBB-g1) designed to operate at the gram-level range with uncertainties on the order of a few parts in 106 is currently under development.

The main objective is to minimize capex and opex in real telco service providers optical networks. We formulate the problem as mixed integer linear programming. The results of numerical experiments run on network topologies of different dimensions and with large demand set. For this purpose we develop speci?cally tailored optimization algorithm based on mixed integer linear programming.

摘要: The more semiconductor devices progress, the more importance of caring about heat dissipation from heat generation increase. This is called “Thermal design”. Thermophysical property values like thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient are used as information for thermal design. The specified values in a brochure or literature data of similar materials are usually used as the thermophysical property values for the thermal design. However, when those values are used for simulation, the results may be wrong because an actual measured value such as rate of conduction of heat of an ingredient is different from literature data or the nominal value in many cases. It is thought that there are a lot of cases without considering directionality of an ingredient (anisotropy) and influence of joint interface. We propose that we should measure these values with considering anisotropy, size effect and the bonding state and utilize them for thermal design of electronic materials used in a semiconductor device.

摘要: Most people in Angola are still having problems with accessing electricity and water for daily basis. In Angola only 15% of villages are having electricity and water supply. Along the years the uses of non-renewable energies have been the most used and now they are becoming difficult to access. The challenge is to transmit electricity to village because of grid costs and long distances. Renewable energy sources are a good option because require complicated infrastructure nor a national grid. Chele is a village that is in Cabinda (Angola) and situated more than 100 Km away from Cabinda city. People of Chele community have been experiencing lack of water and electricity supply, and the villagers need to walk more than 8 Km to get water. The lack of electricity in this village is due to the fact that there is no closest national grid to supply electricity and to pump water. The paper reports on a project of providing affordable and sustained electricity and water supply to Chele community. The best way to implement this is to design stand-alone PV Solar Power Plant system to supply Electricity and Pump water to Chele community.
