摘要: This paper presents a multi-antenna approach of the phase-based SARFID method to locate static tags by employing two UHF-RFID reader antennas installed on an Unmanned Grounded Vehicle (UGV). The UGV is remote-controlled and equipped with Laser Range Finder sensors to move inside an indoor environment, and the knowledge of its trajectory is achieved through a Simultaneous Localization And Mapping procedure. By processing the phase data collected from each reader antenna, different matching functions can be obtained and combined to improve the estimation of the bi-dimensional tag position. Differently from other localization techniques, neither reference tags (anchor tags), nor large phased array antennas are required.

摘要: In this paper it is shown that a conductive feed used to excite a standing surface wave on a metallic object can be used to reliably power a passive UHF RFID sensor tag mounted to the same. The read rates of this method and that of free space are compared. Findings show that along the metallic bar structure, and for a greater distance, minimum read rates were at least 9 times greater than in free space. The maximum read rates were found to be around 20 times larger than in free space. It is shown that by utilizing the metallic structure itself, as a secondary nearfield antenna, it is possible to read accelerometer sensor data effectively from a passive UHF sensor tag such as the WISP 5.0. Such a technique may provide a low cost alternative to traditional SHM systems.

摘要: We present a glove-integrated slotted patch antenna for a wearable Ultra High Frequency Radio Identification Technology (UHF RFID) reader operating at 866 MHz. We tested the prototype antenna made of copper foil adhered on low-permittivity Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) foam material having the thickness of 4 mm. To characterize the antenna, we tested it wirelessly in communication with a common dipole type RFID tag to estimate its realized gain, radiation pattern and maximum tag read range it provides. We also analyzed the effects of variable separation between the antenna and the body to confirm stable operation required by the application. The results showed that the antenna feasible for the work glove applications providing the read range up to 360 cm with the reader’s output power of 28.4 dBm.

摘要: We establish a passive UHF RFID tag as a sensor with a referenced readout to compression. We introduce the sensor tag design, which is based on a two-part split ring resonator antenna, and present the compression sensor platform with a reference tag. We analyze the achieved wireless measurement results and evaluate the performance of the compression sensing platform. Based on these initial measurements, passive RFID-based sensors could provide a maintenance-free wirelessly readable option for compression sensing, for example for structural health monitoring.

SRR LOADED COMPACT UHF RFID TAG FOR BROADBAND OPERATION
摘要: An SRR loaded compact RFID tag for broadband operation over the UHF RFID band is presented. The tag antenna structure is composed of a dipole whose arms are symmetrically loaded with square split ring resonators (SRRs) along a short circuited strip between the SRRs. The antenna is made inductive and reduced in overall size by the SRR sections. The measured read range characteristics of the proposed RFID tag with an RFID chip Alien Higgs-3 are presented. The proposed tag operates over the entire UHF RFID band about a maximum read range of 7 meters in the entire elevation angular ranges and over wide azimuthal angular ranges.

摘要: We fabricate carbon-based stretchable antennas for passive UHF RFID tags. The tag antennas are created on a stretchable elastic band by brush-painting. In addition to wireless evaluation of the fabricated RFID tags before and after cyclic stretching, the properties of the novel carbon-based antenna material are studied. The wireless performance of the established RFID tags is compared to similar stretchable silver-based RFID tags. Based on the achieved results, the established carbon-based tag antennas do not perform in the same high level as the silver-based tag antennas but their read ranges of around 2 to 2.4 meters are suitable for versatile textile-integrated RFID applications. Stretching causes permanent decrease to the tag read range but they remain functional even after 100 stretching cycles. These preliminary results are very promising, considering the current trend towards more environmentally friendly and cost-effective materials in electronics.

摘要: This work discusses the possibility of using printed organic photovoltaic cells in order to increase the performance of UHF RFID sensor tags. As a proof of concept, an organic photovoltaic (OPV) cell was used to power the chip SL900A that incorporates a sensor front-end interface capable of measuring voltages, currents, resistances, and capacitances. Several read range measurements were realized using other types of power sources and compared to OPV. Results based on the OPV cell showed a significant enhancement in the tag read range (up to 80%) under low light conditions which opens the door for several IoT applications.

摘要: In this work we present a near-?eld coupled antenna pair for UHF-RFID operation. The antenna pair is a suitable choice for applications involving detection of RFID tags inside an enclosure, where the power is coupled into the enclosure using the near-?eld coupling of the proposed antenna pair. The important design parameters of the antenna for the optimum performance in the coupled mode are presented and discussed. The proposed antenna pair presents a coupling better than 2 dB from 850 MHz to 950 MHz thus operable in the entire RFID frequency range.

摘要: Broilers perceive light intensity differently from human due to differences in spectral sensitivity. Better understanding of broiler behavioral responses to their perceived lighting may inform farm management practices which helps to improve animal welfare and productivity. The objective of this study was to investigate broiler feeding behaviors at chicken- vs. human-perceived light intensities and under broiler specific LED (BLED) vs. conventional LED light spectrums. The treatment combinations of light intensities and light spectrums were randomly assigned to four identical experimental rooms (3.8 ×1.5 m, L×W), each with 60 tagged broilers. Light intensities at bird level were maintained at either 5 clux (chicken-perceived light intensity) or 5 lux (human-perceived light intensity). Ultra-high frequency radio frequency identification (UHF-RFID) systems were used to register broilers at the feeders. Feeding behaviors of individual broilers at each treatment combination were summarized in terms of daily time spent (DTS) at a feeder, daily percentage of time spent (DPTS), daily times of visit (DTV) to a feeder, duration per visit (DV), hourly time spent (HTS) at a feeder, and hourly times of visit (HTV) to a feeder. The results showed that the DTS (mean ± standard deviation ‘SD’, h·bird-1·day-1) were 2.7±0.1 for 5-clux BLED, 2.6±0.1 for 5-lux BLED, 2.3±0.1 for 5-clux LED, and 2.1±0.0 for 5-lux LED, respectively, corresponding to 8.8-11.2% time spent at the feeders within a day. The DTV (mean ± SD, times·bird-1·day-1) and DV (mean ± SD, min·visit-1) were 80±2 and 2.0±0.1 for 5-clux BLED, 88±2 and 1.8±0.1 for 5-lux BLED, 91±3 and 1.5±0.1 for 5-clux LED, and 95±4 and 1.3±0.1 for 5-lux LED, respectively. Numerically, the broilers tended to visit less to feeders but stay longer at feeders under the chicken-perceived light intensity and broiler specific light spectrum. Feeding behaviors (hourly time spent and times of visit) peaked 2-3 h after initiation of the photoperiod and 2-3 h before the end of the photoperiod. These preliminary observations suggest potential effects of light intensity and spectrum on feeding behaviors of individual broilers, thus providing insights in feeding managements under different light properties. More replicates are needed to validate the findings.

A BROADBAND CPW-FED CIRCULARLY POLARIZED SQUARE SLOT ANTENNA FOR UHF RFID APPLICATIONS
摘要: A broadband CPW-fed circularly polarized square slot antenna for ultra-high-frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) applications is proposed. It consists of a square slot embedded with a spur line along diagonal and an F-shaped feeding structure. The proposed antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth about 307 MHz (34.6% @886 MHz) and a 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth about 232 MHz (24.3% @954 MHz). The 3 dB AR beam-width is about 96 degrees over the UHF band of 840–960 MHz. The proposed reader antenna based on CPW structure is easy to integrate. With the symmetry and bidirectional radiation pattern, there are less readers needed in some applications, such as access control, than the reader with unidirectional pattern, which will definitely decrease the implemented cost. Therefore, this universal design with desired performance across the entire UHF RFID band (from 840 MHz to 960 MHz) can be applied to all the UHF RFID applications worldwide. Detailed considerations of the design and main parameters will be studied in this paper.
