  • Multicharged Phthalocyanines as Selective Ligands for G-Quadruplex DNA Structures

    摘要: The stabilization of G-Quadruplex DNA structures by ligands is a promising strategy for telomerase inhibition in cancer therapy since this enzyme is responsible for the unlimited proliferation of cancer cells. To assess the potential of a compound as a telomerase inhibitor, selectivity for quadruplex over duplex DNA is a fundamental attribute, as the drug must be able to recognize quadruplex DNA in the presence of a large amount of duplex DNA, in the cellular nucleus. By using different spectroscopic techniques, such as ultraviolet-visible, fluorescence and circular dichroism, this work evaluates the potential of a series of multicharged phthalocyanines, bearing four or eight positive charges, as G-Quadruplex stabilizing ligands. This work led us to conclude that the existence of a balance between the number and position of the positive charges in the phthalocyanine structure is a fundamental attribute for its selectivity for G-Quadruplex structures over duplex DNA structures. Two of the studied phthalocyanines, one with four peripheral positive charges (ZnPc1) and the other with less exposed eight positive charges (ZnPc4) showed high selectivity and affinity for G-Quadruplex over duplex DNA structures and were able to accumulate in the nucleus of UM-UC-3 bladder cancer cells.

  • Structural characterization and electrical conductivity analysis of MoO3–SeO2–ZnO semiconducting glass nanocomposites

    摘要: A series of glass nanocomposite samples of the general composition formula xMoO3–(1-x) (0.5SeO2–0.5ZnO) for x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 have been prepared by solid-state reaction, i.e., slow cooling process. The structural characteristics have been explored by analyzing X-ray di?raction patterns, Fourier-transform infrared, and UV–Vis spectra. The superposition of di?erent nanophases SeO2, SeO3, ZnO, MoO3, Zn (SeO3), Zn (SeO4), Zn (MoO4), Zn2Mo3O8 and ZnMo8O10 over the amorphous glassy matrices have been identi?ed, and their crystallite sizes have been evaluated as well. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra reveal di?erent types of bonding like Zn–O–Se type and stretching vibrations of MoO6 octahedral units. It is observed that with increasing MoO3 concentration, the estimated values of optical bandgap energy, Urbach energy, and average crystallite size reduce. The dependency of electrical conductivity on frequency and temperature have been analyzed using Almond-West formalism and Jonscher's universal power-law. The non-linear character of DC conductivity and di?erent activation energies at low and high-temperature regions a?rm that the present glassy systems exhibit semiconducting nature. Moreover, DC conduction process is due to small polaron hopping through localized or defect states. The decreasing trend of power-law exponent (s) with temperature rise reveals that AC conduction mechanism is consistent with the correlated barrier-hopping (CBH) model. The existing correlated barrier-hopping model has been modi?ed to attain reasonable values of ?tting parameters and to obtain theoretical values of ideal thermodynamic glass transition temperature. The AC conductivity activation energy and free energy required for small polaron migration reduce with increasing conductivity. The scaling property emphasizes that conductivity relaxation process is subjected to the structure of the composition and does not depend on temperature.

  • Simultaneous determination of trace amounts of copper and cobalt in high concentration zinc solution using UV–vis spectrometry and Adaboost

    摘要: Simultaneous determination of trace ions in zinc metallurgical solution provides effective process information for optimal control in zinc hydrometallurgy. In this paper, Ultraviolet and Visible (UV–vis) spectrometry with the analytical system based on nitroso R salt is applied to simultaneously determine the trace concentrations of copper and cobalt in high and varying concentration zinc sulfate solution. Firstly, fractional differentiation is applied to reduce the overlap between ions and covering of zinc on trace ions. Then, a multi-indexes fusion wavelength selection is utilized to find the optimal combination of variables for the partial least squares model. Next, to reduce the interference caused by competitive reaction and matrix effect of zinc ions, Adaboost creates a group of weak models to analyze trace ion concentration from multiple perspectives. Finally, Adaboost trains the sample weights and model weights of weak models and integrates those weak models into a strong model to predict the trace ion concentration comprehensively. A spectrum dataset containing 72 samples of zinc, copper and cobalt ions mixture solution is prepared for the proposed method. Results show that the proposed method can simultaneously determine the trace concentrations of copper and cobalt in high and varying concentration zinc sulfate solution accurately.

  • A novel method for simultaneous determination of zinc, nickel, cobalt and copper based on UV–vis spectrometry

    摘要: A novel method based on UV–vis spectrometry is developed for simultaneous determination of zinc, nickel, cobalt and copper without any separation steps. The method studied in this paper is the combination of ratio spectra derivative and kalman filtering spectrophotometry. First, using absorbance of zinc standard solution as divisor, the ratio spectra derivative obtained can completely eliminate the interference of zinc on trace ions. Second, the trace ions are simultaneously determined by kalman filtering spectrophotometry. Last, based on obtaining trace ion concentrations, a calibration curve for zinc is established. The linear determination ranges are 10-70mg/L for zinc, 0.2-1.4mg/L for trace ions of nickel, cobalt and copper. The results show that the predicted results of zinc, nickel, cobalt and copper by this proposed method is superior to PLS method. The work reported here is an effective attempt for the simultaneous determination of zinc, nickel, cobalt and copper in industrial wastewater of zinc hydrometallurgy, and will have more applications.

  • Optical responses of BSA protein under re-entrant condensation in presence of trivalent ions

    摘要: Fluorescence behavior of globular protein like BSA is studied under the re-entrant condensation in the presence of trivalent salts like YCl3 and LaCl3. BSA shows a re-entrant behaviour in solution where a specific turbid phase is formed between the two critical concentrations of the trivalent salts. Optical behaviours of proteins are explored by UV-Vis, photoluminescence and time resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) spectroscopy, whereas hydrodynamic size is obtained from the dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique. BSA shows maximum emission intensity at ≈ 338 nm for an excitation at 278 nm, however, the value of the peak intensity of emission gradually increases with the increase in salt concentration and becomes maximum at the turbid phase but for higher salt concentration as the re-dissolution takes place the emission intensity again decreases. TRPL study suggests that the decay time of BSA under re-entrant condensation is correlated with the salt concentration, whereas DLS study shows that the hydrodynamic size gradually increases up to a certain salt concentration where turbid phase is formed and then again decreases for higher salt concentrations. The variation of emission intensity of BSA nearly follows the modification of diffusion coefficient or hydrodynamic size and the phase transition behaviours.

  • Structural, optical, electrical and thermal characteristics of La{CS(NH2)2CO(NH2)2}Cl3 : A novel hybrid complex for optoelectronic applications

    摘要: A hybrid complex of lanthanum chloride with urea and thiourea is crystallized at room temperature by conventional solution method. The structural investigations by single crystal X-ray diffraction confirmed the orthorhombic system with cell dimensions a = 7.676 ?, b = 8.564 ?, c = 5.498 ?, α = β = γ = 90°. The optical studies by UV–VIS absorption spectroscopy shows the complex exhibits transmittance about 96%. The complex is characterized as the wide band gap crystals with value greater than 4 eV. The dielectric properties were studied in frequency range 10 kHz–1 MHz in temperature range 303–453 K. The ac conductivity was found to obey the universal power law and suggests the correlated barrier hoping mechanism dominating the conduction process. The thermal stability and the decomposition mechanism were confirmed by thermo gravimetric and differential thermo analytical (TG/DTA) techniques.

  • Fraction of Rare-Earth (Sm/Nd)-Lanthanum Ferrite-Based Perovskite Ferroelectric and Magnetic Nanopowders

    摘要: Multiferroic compound, especially LaFeO3-based perovskite nanopowders that exhibit robust simultaneous ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity, are widely investigated and applied in different applications. In this work, we report the synthesis and characterization pertaining to fraction of rare-earth (Sm/Nd)-substituted lanthanum ferrite based perovskite nanopowders via solid-state technique. The multiferroic phenomenon is the fundamental approach to combine both the ferromagnetic and ferroelectric properties in a single system. Reduction in crystallite size, as well as some lattice distortion effects, are included to show the possibilities of tuning the lattice structure, electrical, optical as well as the magnetic properties which are closely connected to the ferroelectric behavior and magnetism. At room temperature, the ferroelectric behavior of La0.9(Sm/Nd)0.1FeO3 exhibiting a P-E hysteresis loop became more and more pronounced, indicating the electrical leakage is greatly reduced. The canted antiferromagnetic hysteresis loop shows that the rare-earth (Sm/Nd) ion can significantly affect the magnetic parameters of the materials.

  • Fluorescein derived Schiff base as fluorimetric zinc (II) sensor via ‘turn on’ response and its application in live cell imaging

    摘要: A novel Schiff base L composed of fluorescein hydrazine and a phenol functionalized moiety has been designed and prepared via cost-effective condensation reaction, which is utilized for selective sensing of Zn2+ over other environmental and biological relevant metal ions in aqueous alcoholic solution under physiological pH range. The binding of Zn2+ to the receptor L is found to causes ~23 fold fluorescence enhancement of L. The 1:1 binding mode of the metal complex is established by combined UV–Vis, fluorescence, and HRMS (high-resolution mass spectroscopy) spectroscopic methods. The binding constant (Ka) for complexation and the limit of detection (LOD) of Zn2+ is calculated to be 2.86×104 M-1 and 1.59 μM, respectively. Further photophysical investigations including steady-state, time-resolved fluorescence analysis and spectral investigations including NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance), IR (infrared spectroscopy) suggest introduction of CHEF (chelation enhance fluorescence) with the suppression of C=N isomerization and PET (photo-induced electron transfer) mechanism for the strong fluorescent response towards Zn2+. Finally, the sensor L is successfully employed to monitor a real-time detection of Zn2+ by means of TLC (thin layer chromatography) based paper strip. The L is used in the cell imaging study using African green monkey kidney cells (Vero cells) for the determination of exogenous Zn2+ by Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA) process.

  • Ultra-small two dimensional MXene nanosheets for selective and sensitive fluorescence detection of Ag+ and Mn2+ ions

    摘要: The present work offers a new exploration for the selective sensing of metal ions (Ag+ and Mn2+) via fluorescence quenching of Ti3C2 MXene nanosheets (NSs). Monolayer MXene Ti3C2 NSs exhibited excellent ability to sense Ag+ and Mn2+ ions because of their good hydrophilicity and distinctive surface functionality. The as-synthesised Ti3C2 NSs exhibited highest emission fluorescence peak at 461 nm upon the excitation wavelength of 384 nm. The fluorescence emission peak of Ti3C2 NSs was remarkably quenched only upon the addition of Ag+ and Mn2+ ions, exhibiting good linear response between I0/I and concentration in the range of 0.1–40 μM and 0.5–60 μM for Ag+ and Mn2+ ions. The proposed sensor shows lower detection limits of 9.7 and 102 nM for Ag+ and Mn2+ ions with good selectivity. Additionally, the method is effectively applied to detect Ag+ and Mn2+ ions in food and real water samples with excellent recoveries.

  • New one-dimensional mercury(II) coordination polymers built up from dispiro-dipyridyloxy-cyclotriphosphazene: Structural, thermal and UV-vis absorption properties

    摘要: Reactions of flexible polydendate ligand system dispiro-dipyridyloxy-cyclotriphosphazene (L) with a variety of mercury(II) salts (HgX2) (X= I ̄, Cl ̄) afforded two one-dimensional mercury(II) coordination polymers, namely formulated as {[Hg(L)(I)2]}n (1) and {[Hg(L)(Cl)2]}n.(ACN)0,341 (2). The isolated crystalline compounds were structurally characterized by elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray crystallography. The X-ray crystal structure analysis revealed that 1 and 2 crystallizes in the orthorhombic (space group Pccn) and the monoclinic crystal system (space group P21/c), in which L exhibited a κ2N coordination binding mode with the divalent Hg ions to form one-dimensional chain structures. The central Hg2+ ion in 1 and 2 has a distorted tetrahedral coordination geometry. UV-Vis properties and thermal stability of L and complexes (1, 2) were also investigated. UV-Vis experiments (titration and continuous variation (Job’s plot) analysis) showed that all of spectrophotometric properties in solution state supports crystal structure of complexes. According to TGA analysis, coordination polymers exhibited thermal stability up to 300 °C, but L showed more thermal stability than 1 and 2.
