  • Planar UWB Monopole Antenna with Tri-Band Rejection Characteristics at 3.5/5.5/8 GHz

    摘要: A triple band-notched ultrawide band (UWB) antenna is presented to avoid the interference of services working in the UWB band, such as WLAN, WiMAX and X-band satellite systems. The arc H-shaped slot on the radiating patch creates a low frequency notched band, while the other two band-notched bands are formed by cutting narrow slots on the ground plane. The presented antenna can operate on the ultrawide band efficiently and inhibit interference from three different kinds of narrow band communication systems. The simulation and measurement results show that the antenna has excellent band-notched function on the rejectband and almost omnidirectional radiation pattern on the passband.

  • Co-designed defected ground structure filter with UWB slot antenna

    摘要: In this study, one kind of novel co-designed defected ground structure (DGS) filter with slot antenna is proposed to realize bandpass reflection coefficient and gain performance. This antenna consists of two parts: 1) a 50 Ω feeding line and 2) a modified stepped slot with additional narrow slot and defected ground structure. The extra narrow slot, which can effectively prolong the current path of low frequency and generate reflection zero, is introduced to improve the lower band-edge selectivity. DGS is used to improve the upper band-edge selectivity, which can produce transmission zeros in certain frequencies and provides excellent stopband characteristics. In addition, the modified stepped slot with DGS can produce additional resonance frequency, which is helpful to improve the in-band impedance characteristics and radiation efficiency of the antenna. Measured results show that not only the band-edge selectivity of the antenna is improved, but also the in-band impedance matching and radiation efficiency are improved. The experimental results show that the proposed design could be a good candidate for UWB applications.

  • Simple Design Procedure of a Broadband Circularly Polarized Slot Monopole Antenna Assisted by Characteristic Mode Analysis

    摘要: In this paper, a systematic design procedure of a compact and broadband circularly polarized (CP) antenna is proposed. The antenna is first designed with a C-shaped monopole, and then a C-shaped slotted patch is utilized to produce CP radiation in the lower frequency band. Thus, the antenna's overall CP bandwidth (BW) is significantly increased. In addition, unlike the conventional method in which the operation is verified by the simulated surface current distribution, characteristic mode analysis (CMA) is carried out to give more insight into different modes on the antenna and generation of circular polarization. The CMA also helps to realize a structural optimization and identify an efficient feed location. The optimized antenna prototype with a compact size of 0.29λo × 0.29λo × 0.01λo (λo is the minimum wavelength at the minimum operation frequency) achieves a usable 10-dB reflection coefficient and 3-dB axial ratio fractional BW of 91% (2.1–5.6 GHz). The antenna realized broadside gain varies from 1.5 to 3.2 dBic within this measured overlapped BW.

  • Material distributive topology design of UWB antenna using parallel computation of improved BPSO with FDTD

    摘要: In this article, the material distributive topology-based design optimization of ultra-wide band (UWB) antenna is proposed by using improved binary particle swarm optimization (BPSO) with finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. In the improved BPSO implementation, the velocity of each particle is calculated based on complete set of bits of particle position vector. The V-shaped transfer function is employed to transform all real values of velocities to values in the interval [0,1]. The fitness function of all the particles in BPSO algorithm are computed parallely by using FDTD simulation. The usage of FDTD and the parallel computation helps in analyzing the broadband frequency characteristics of the antenna with a single simulation run. The return loss of the optimized UWB antenna obtained from FDTD, Computer Simulation Technology (CST) simulation and practical measurement are in good agreement and show good impedance matching.

  • FREQUENCY RECONFIGURABLE TRIPLE BAND-NOTCHED ULTRA-WIDEBAND ANTENNA WITH COMPACT SIZE

    摘要: A compact planar recon?gurable triple band-notched UWB Microstrip antenna is proposed in this paper for UWB applications. A band rejection at ITU 8-GHz is generated by inserting an inverted U-shaped metallic strip at the slotted ground plane. Moreover, by cutting two slots on radiating patch, the second rejection at 3.6 GHz for WiMAX and the third rejection at 5.5 GHz for WLAN application are generated. Then, by embedding two (PIN) diodes along the patch slots, switchable dual or single band-notched behavior is added to the antenna performance. The simulated and measured results show that the antenna can operate in a wider bandwidth from 3.1 GHz to 11 GHz, and it has a good omnidirectional radiation pattern with stable gain. Furthermore, the designed antenna has a simple structure and compact size of 20 × 20 mm2. The proposed antenna can use the full potential of UWB frequency range with recon?gurable band-notched behavior at 3.6, 5.5, 8.1 GHz to avoid interference with WiMAX, WLAN, ITU systems respectively.

    摘要: In this study, a new UWB antenna design that shows the band-notched characteristic for UWB application has been designed. To model the antenna, a Hyperbolic-Perforated (HP) method based on two parasitic patches and a parasitic slot (62) is used. As a result, a frequency response is obtained in the band range of 3.1-10.6 GHz for UWB systems. Based on the results, it further refines the core findings, significance of the research, and suggestions for future studies.

  • OMPACT CPW FED SWITCHABLE UWB ANTENNA AS AN ANTENNA FILTER AT NARROW-FREQUENCY BANDS

    摘要: The aim of this paper is to present a compact coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed switchable UWB antenna as an antenna ?lter with adjustable notched frequency bands. Novel miniaturized tunable resonators are also presented to achieve notched bands. The antenna is made tunable in notched frequency bands without any modi?cation in the basic structure. These stopbands are made tunable just by varying values of the capacitors according to our desired applications. The antenna structure is very compact having overall dimensions of 24 × 30.5 mm2 with partial ground plane. The proposed small size, variable, low cost and low weight antenna with good propagation characteristics will pave the way for UWB wireless communication applications.

  • DESIGN ANALYSIS AND MODELING OF DIRECTIONAL UWB ANTENNA WITH ELLIPTICAL SLOTTED GROUND STRUCTURE FOR APPLICATIONS IN C- & X-BANDS

    摘要: A modi?ed technique to design directional ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with slotted ground structure approach on the ground plane has been presented for applications in C- and X-bands. Initially, elliptical slot is inserted into ground and thereafter, the axis of ellipse is rotated 45 degrees in direction of the substrate. Minor axis of the ellipse is optimized to locate it symmetrically around the circular patch in order to obtain the full C- and X-band operations and also to enhance directivity. Thereafter, for further improvement in the directivity as well as gain, an elliptical slot in circular patch has also been introduced. The impedance bandwidth approximates about 95% covering the frequency ranging from 4.18–11.50 GHz. The return losses (S11) are ?38 dB and ?43 dB through simulation, which are ?24 dB and ?32 dB by measurement at 6.3 GHz, 9.3 GHz resonant frequencies, respectively. Simulated gain and half power beam width (HPBW) are 2.5–8.4 dB and 49–22 degrees in 4.18–11.50 GHz band, respectively. Gain and half power beam width (HPBW) of the proposed antenna improves by 1–2 dB and 5–10 degrees, respectively compared with previously designed antennas. Simulation of the antenna has been carried out on Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software on an FR-4 substrate having dielectric constant 4.3 of thickness 1.6 mm. The measured results show good agreement with equivalent circuit model and CST simulation.

  • DESIGN OF A MICROSTRIP-FED HEXAGONAL SHAPE UWB ANTENNA WITH TRIPLE NOTCHED BANDS

    摘要: In this paper, a microstrip-fed hexagonal shape ultra-wideband (UWB) monopole antenna with triple notched bands is presented. The antenna consists of a microstrip feed line, a regular hexagonal shape radiation patch with a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) and a pair of inverted T-shaped conductor-backed planes embedded in the antenna backside. Notched bands can be easily controlled by geometry parameters of the CSRR and conductor-backed planes. The simulated and measured results show that this monopole UWB antenna can o?er an operation frequency from 2.93 GHz to 10.04 GHz with ?10 dB return loss bandwidth, except three notched bands at 3.31–3.78 GHz, 5.33–5.77 GHz and 7.24–7.72 GHz for rejecting the WiMAX and downlink of X-band satellite communication system signals. A good agreement between the measured and simulated results is observed. The proposed antenna provides broadband impedance matching, appropriate gain and stable radiation patterns over its operating bandwidth and can be used in wireless UWB applications.

  • A Low-Profile, Directional, Ultrawideband Antenna

    摘要: A compact low pro?le, ultrawideband (UWB) antenna providing directional radiation pattern is proposed. The antenna is based on a modi?ed Vivaldi antenna, and is characterized by a three-dimensionally (3-D) bended structure. Each of the two radiation ?ns is capacitively loaded with an invert trapezoidal metallic plate at the end. In order to conveniently mount the antenna on the metal surface, a corrugated plate is added as a ground. Owing to the bended structure and capacitively loaded scheme, the antenna has a low pro?le of 0.216λm, where λm is the wavelength at the minimum operating frequency. The prototype of the antenna is fabricated and measured. The measured and simulated results show good agreement. The measured results show that the antenna has VSMR < 2.5 from 0.9 to 10 GHz and measured gain from 3.6 to 8.2 dBi.
