N-Doped K3Ti5NbO14@TiO2 Core-Shell Structure for Enhanced Visible-Light-Driven Photocatalytic Activity in Environmental Remediation
摘要: A novel N-doped K3Ti5NbO14@TiO2 (NTNT) core-shell heterojunction photocatalyst was synthesized by firstly mixing titanium isopropoxide and K3Ti5NbO14 nanobelt, and then calcinating at 500 °C in air using urea as the nitrogen source. The samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) spectra. Anatase TiO2 nanoparticles were closely deposited on the surface of K3Ti5NbO14 nanobelt to form a nanoscale heterojunction structure favorable for the separation of photogenerated charge carriers. Meanwhile, the nitrogen atoms were mainly doped in the crystal lattices of TiO2, resulting in the increased light harvesting ability to visible light region. The photocatalytic performance was evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of NTNT was ascribed to the combined effects of morphology engineering, N doping and the formation of heterojunction. A possible photocatalytic mechanism was proposed based on the experimental results.

Enhanced Visible Light Photodegradation of Microplastic Fragments with Plasmonic Platinum/Zinc Oxide Nanorod Photocatalysts
摘要: Microplastics are persistent anthropogenic pollutants which have become a global concern owing to their widespread existence and unfamiliar threats to the environment and living organisms. This study demonstrates the degradation of fragmented microplastics particularly low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film in water, through visible light-induced plasmonic photocatalysts comprising of platinum nanoparticles deposited on zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods (ZnO-Pt). The ZnO-Pt nanocomposite photocatalysts were observed to have better degradation kinetics for a model organic dye (methylene blue) compared to bare ZnO nanorods, attributed to the plasmonic effects leading to better interfacial exciton separation and improved hydroxyl radical activity along with a 78% increase in visible light absorption. These demonstrations of the plasmonically enhanced photocatalyst enabled it to effectively degrade microplastic fragments as confirmed following the changes in carbonyl and vinyl indices in infrared absorption. In addition, visual proof of physical surface damage of the LDPE film establishes the efficacy of using plasmonically enhanced nanocomposite photocatalytic materials to tackle the microplastic menace using just sunlight for a clean and green approach towards mitigation of microplastics in the ecosystem.

BiOBr/Ag6Si2O7 heterojunctions for enhancing visible light catalytic degradation performances with a sequential selectivity enabled by dual synergistic effects
摘要: Efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs is always one of the key factors boosting visible light photodegradation efficiency. Till now, there are few reports on the synergistic competitive consumption of photogenerated active species and the synergistic adsorption of organic contaminants to promote the performance of a designed heterojunction. Herein, we design and construct a novel BiOBr/Ag6Si2O7 heterojunction with the dual synergistic effects towards methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO). The dual synergistic effects could avoid the combination of photogenerated h+/e? pairs, improve the adsorption efficiency, and even regulate the photodegradation efficiency. Thus, for an aqueous mixture of MB and MO, the BiOBr/Ag6Si2O7 photocatalyst exhibits largely improved adsorption capacities of the dyes by a multi-layer adsorption mode. Moreover, the photocatalyst could further promote the photodegradation rate of MO while slow that of MB due to the competitive consumption of photogenerated active species, showing a sequential selectivity phenomenon. Thanks to the dual synergistic effects, the adsorption capacity of MO increases 1379% higher than that of neat MO solution, and the photodegradation time decrease from 30 to 12 min with a rate constant of 0.22 min?1, 38% higher than that of neat MO solution.
