Propagation of Electromagnetic Waves in an Open Planar Dielectric Waveguide Filled with a Nonlinear Medium II: TM Waves
摘要: A nonlinear eigenvalue problem on an interval is considered. The nonlinearity in the equation is specified by a nonnegative monotonically increasing function, and the boundary conditions nonlinearly depend both on the sought-for functions and on the spectral parameter. The discrete eigenvalues are defined using an additional (local) condition at one end of the interval. This problem describes the propagation of monochromatic (polarized) electromagnetic TM waves in a planar dielectric waveguide filled with a nonlinear medium. The nonlinearity covers a wide range of laws of nonlinear optics corresponding to self-interaction effects. Results on the solvability of the problem and the properties of the eigenvalues are obtained.

Integrated electro-optic modulators in x-cut lithium niobate thin film
摘要: Integrated optics is poised to revolutionize several data communication applications. The development of high performance electro-optic modulators is essential for the technology to be viable. In this paper, single-mode electro-optic modulators in x-cut lithium niobate thin film are designed, simulated, and analyzed. The single-mode conditions of lithium niobate ridge waveguides are analyzed in detail. The design parameters of Y-branch and separation distances between electrodes and ridge waveguides are optimized. The half-wave voltage of the electro-optic modulator with device lengths of 10 mm is determined. The half-wave voltage-length product is about 2.2 V·cm, indicating the efficient electric-optical modulation. This study is helpful for understand of electro-optic modulator structures in lithium niobate thin film, as well as for the fabrication of high-performance and multifunctional electro-optic modulation devices.

LiNbO3 integrated system for opto-microfluidic sensing
摘要: In this work, we realized and tested an integrated opto-microfluidics platform entirely made on lithium niobate (LiNbO3) crystals, able to detect the single droplet passage and estimate its size without the need of any imaging processing. It is based on the coupling of a self-aligned integrated optical stage, made of an array of optical waveguides, to a microfluidic circuit such as a T-junction or Cross-junction engraved in the same substrate. The platform presented high quality performances in terms of optical triggering, reproducibility and stability in time, allowing in real-time data analysis. The comparison with standard approaches using microscopes and fast camera imagining acquisition and relative post-processing, showed an increased capability better than 50%. The demonstrated feasibility of integration of these two stages will allow the realization of a Lab-On-a-Chip on a monolithic substrate of lithium niobate, exploiting its multiple applications for manipulation of droplets.

Defects modes in one-dimensional photonic filter star waveguide structure
摘要: In this work, by the formalism of the interface response theory, we study the existence of defects’ modes in the transmission spectrum of a one-dimensional photonic star waveguide (SWG) structure. The perfect structure presents large forbidden bands (gaps) that come from the periodicity of the system and the resonance states of the grafted lateral branches which play the role of the resonators. The defects modes result from the presence of the defects of the lateral branches level located in two different sites. The behavior of the defects’ modes is analyzed as a function of the defects’ lengths, the number of defectives resonators, the positions of the defects’ and the number of sites. This system can be considered as a selective ?lter with high performance.

Analysis of periodicity-induced attenuation effect in a nonlinear waveguide by means of the method of polynomial system resultants
摘要: This paper addresses the application of the novel method of polynomial system resultants for solving two problems governed by systems of cubic equations. Both problems emerge in analysis of stationary dynamics of a periodic waveguide, which consists of linearly elastic continuous rods with nonlinear springs between them. The first one is the classical problem of finding “backbone curves” for free nonlinear vibrations of a symmetric unit periodicity cell of the waveguide. The second one is the problem of finding the Insertion Losses for a semi-infinite waveguide with several periodicity cells. Similarly to the canonical linear case, a very good agreement between boundaries of high attenuation frequency ranges and eigenfrequencies of a unit cell is demonstrated.

Mid-infrared saturated absorption spectroscopy inside a hollow glass waveguide
摘要: We report the saturation spectroscopy of carbon dioxide inside a hollow glass waveguide (GW) using a tunable mid-infrared difference frequency generation (DFG) source. This DFG source was generated in a periodically poled lithium niobate crystal with a tuning range from 3.97 to 4.71 μm. Saturated spectroscopy was performed on the R(60) transition of CO20001 ← 0000 band at 4.2 μm inside a hollow GW of diameter 300 μm and length 1 m. The saturation dip signal was found with a pump power as low as 0.18 mW inside the hollow GW. The linewidth of the dip was determined to be 4.40 MHz.

Single-photon scattering controlled by an imperfect cavity
摘要: We study the single-photon transport in the coupled-resonator waveguide (CRW) controlled by an imperfect cavity. A Lorentzian spectrum is introduced to describe the dissipation. We find that the probability current conservation can be broken, although the imperfect cavity is a Hermitian system. The coupling strength between the imperfect cavity and the CRW has significant influences near the resonant frequency. With the increase of the coupling strength, the transmission coefficient becomes smaller. The spectral width plays a dominant role under the off-resonant condition, where the transmission coefficient is greatly suppressed with the increase of spectral width. We also observe an abrupt jump of the transmission and reflection coefficients, when the hopping amplitude is large enough. All the distinctive behaviors are closely related with the complex effective potential induced by the imperfect cavity.

Investigation of Ytterbium Incorporation in Lithium Niobate for Active Waveguide Devices
摘要: In this work, we report on an investigation of the ytterbium di?usion characteristics in lithium niobate. Ytterbium-doped substrates were prepared by in-di?usion of thin metallic layers coated onto x- and z-cut congruent substrates at di?erent temperatures. The ytterbium pro?les were investigated in detail by means of secondary neutral mass spectroscopy, optical microscopy, and optical spectroscopy. Di?usion from an in?nite source was used to determine the solubility limit of ytterbium in lithium niobate as a function of temperature. The derived di?usion parameters are of importance for the development of active waveguide devices in ytterbium-doped lithium niobate.

Solitons in magnetoa??optic waveguides with quadratica??cubic nonlinearity
摘要: This paper implements unified Riccati equation expansion scheme as well as extended auxiliary equation method to obtain bright, dark and singular solitons in magneto–optic waveguides. The quadratic–cubic form of nonlinear refractive index is the focus of the paper. These solitons emerge after a limiting value when the modulus of ellipticity approaches unity.

Configurational entropy of optical bright similariton in tapered graded-index waveguide
摘要: Con?gurational entropy (CE) consists of a family of entropic measures of information used to describe the shape complexity of spatially-localized functions with respect to a set of parameters. We obtain the Differential Con?gurational Entropy (DCE) for similariton waves traveling in tapered graded-index optical waveguides modeled by a generalized nonlinear Schr?dinger equation. It is found that for similariton’s widths lying within a certain range, DCE attains minimum saturation values as the nonlinear wave evolves along the effective propagation variable ζ (t). In particular, saturation is achieved earlier for lower values of the width, which we show correspond to global minima of the DCE. Such low entropic values lead to minimum dispersion of momentum modes as the similariton waves propagate along tapered graded-index waveguides, and should be of importance in guiding their design.
