  • Temporal dispersion compensation for turbid underwater optical wireless communication links

    摘要: Temporal dispersion compensation has been considered in the turbid underwater optical wireless communication systems. A comprehensive comparison of different equalization criteria and adaptive equalization strategies has been made in this paper. New results have been shown since there is an optimal field of view for certain channels. Moreover, one can also make a tradeoff among computational complexity, performance and transmit distance by referring to the conclusions in this paper.

  • Wireless sensing for a solar power system

    摘要: Wireless sensing is an excellent approach for remotely operated solar power system. Not only to get the sensor data, such as voltage, current, and temperature, but the system can also have a proper control for tracking the Sun and sensing real-time data from a controller. In order to absorb the maximum energy by solar cells, it needs to track the Sun with proper angles. Arduino, H-bridge motor driver circuit, and Direct Current (DC) motor are used to alter the tilt angle of the solar Photovoltaic (PV) panel following the Sun while the azimuth and the elevation angles are fixed at noon. Unlike the traditional way, the tilt rotation is proposed to be stepped hourly. The solar PV panel is tilted 7.5? in advance of current time to the west to produce more output voltage during an hour. As a result, the system is simple while providing good solar-tracking results and efficient power outputs.

    摘要: We analyze the performance of an interference-limited decode-and-forward cooperative relaying system that comprises a source, a destination, and N relays, arbitrarily placed on the plane and suffering from interference by a set of interferers placed according to a spatial Poisson process. In each transmission attempt, first, the transmitter sends a packet; subsequently, a single one of the relays that received the packet correctly, if such a relay exists, retransmits it. We consider both selection combining and maximal ratio combining at the destination, Rayleigh fading, and interferer mobility. We derive expressions for the probability that a single transmission attempt is successful, as well as for the distribution of the transmission attempts until a packet is successfully transmitted. Results provide design guidelines applicable to a wide range of systems. Overall, the temporal and spatial characteristics of the interference play a significant role in shaping the system performance. Maximal ratio combining is only helpful when relays are close to the destination; in harsh environments, having many relays is particularly helpful, and relay placement is critical; the performance improves when interferer mobility increases; and a tradeoff exists between energy efficiency and throughput.

    摘要: Bit-error rate measurements for ON-OFF keying modulation at multigigabit per second rates over a V-band wireless link are presented. Serial data-rates from 2.5 to 20 Gb/s were studied for a 231-1 bit random sequence. Error-free data transfer over a 0.3-m link was achieved at up to 10 Gb/s. Acceptable bit-error rates, <10?5 and 10?3, were measured at up to 1.5 m for 10- and 15-Gb/s data-rate, respectively. The performance was achieved using a transmitter that consists of an integrated wavelet generator, whereas the receiver was built from off-the-shelf waveguide components. The results demonstrate that very high data-rates may be achieved using binary modulation and short symbols generated in an efficient V-band transmitter. The system is benchmarked against state-of-the-art transceiver systems with multigigabit per second data-rates.

  • Dual-Hop Mixed RF-UOW Communication System: A PHY Security Analysis

    摘要: In this paper, the secrecy performance of a dual-hop mixed radio-frequency/underwater optical wireless communication (RF-UOWC) system is investigated. The considered system consists of one single antenna source node (S) communicating with one destination node (D), considered as the legitimate receiver, through an amplify-and-forward relay node equipped with multiple antennas for reception. Specifically, the relay receives the incoming signal from S via an RF link, applies maximal-ratio combining technique, amplifies the output combined signal with either a fixed gain or variable gain, and then forwards it to the destination via an UOWC link. The transmission protocol is performed under the eavesdropper’s attempt to overhear the RF link (i.e., S-R). We derive exact closed-form expressions for the system’s average secrecy capacity and the intercept probability in terms of Meijer’s G-function as well as the univariate and bivariate Fox’s H -functions. A complexity analysis is also performed to analyze the evaluation time of the derived analytical formulas as well as Monte Carlo simulation method complexity. Our derived analytical formulas present an efficient tool to depict the impact of some system and channel parameters on the secrecy performance, namely, the number of relay antennas, the number of eavesdropping nodes, relay gain, fading severity of RF links, and water turbulence severity of the UOWC link.

  • The Double PEC Wedge Problem: Diffraction and Total Far Field

    摘要: Complex scattering targets are often made by structures constituted of wedges that may interact at near field. In this paper, we examine the scattering of a plane electromagnetic wave by two separated arbitrarily oriented perfectly electrically conducting wedges with parallel axes. The procedure to obtain the solution is based on the recently developed semianalytical method known as generalized Wiener–Hopf technique that allows a comprehensive mathematical model of the problem in the spectral domain avoiding multiple steps of interaction among separated objects. The numerical results are presented to validate the procedure in terms of spectral quantities, GTD/uniform theory of diffraction coefficients and total far fields for engineering applications. The structure is of interest in electromagnetic applications, in particular, to accurately predict path loss in propagation with diffraction phenomena.

    摘要: This paper focuses on energy efficiency aspects and related benefits of radio-access-network-as-a-service (RANaaS) implementation (using commodity hardware) as architectural evolution of LTE-advanced networks toward 5G infrastructure. RANaaS is a novel concept introduced recently, which enables the partial centralization of RAN functionalities depending on the actual needs as well as on network characteristics. In the view of future definition of 5G systems, this cloud-based design is an important solution in terms of efficient usage of network resources. The aim of this paper is to give a vision of the advantages of the RANaaS, to present its benefits in terms of energy efficiency and to propose a consistent system-level power model as a reference for assessing innovative functionalities toward 5G systems. The incremental benefits through the years are also discussed in perspective, by considering technological evolution of IT platforms and the increasing matching between their capabilities and the need for progressive virtualization of RAN functionalities. The description is complemented by an exemplary evaluation in terms of energy efficiency, analyzing the achievable gains associated with the RANaaS paradigm.

  • A High Efficiency LCC-S Compensated WPT System with Dual Decoupled Receive Coils and Cascaded PWM Regulator

    摘要: A LCC-S compensated wireless power transfer (WPT) system with dual decoupled receive coils and a cascaded PWM regulator is proposed in this paper. The dual decoupled receive coils, comprising of bipolar coil and unipolar coil, provide two power paths. Most of input power is transferred to load directly through bipolar coil while only small portion of input power is transferred through unipolar coil and the cascaded PWM regulator, which can reduce power loss effectively. The output voltage of WPT system is regulated by the cascaded PWM regulator, thereby wireless communication links (WCLs) is not required in the feedback control loop, which leads to simple control circuits and good stability. Compared with conventional WPT system with two-stage power conversion, it is cost-effective as voltage/current stress of PWM regulator can be significantly alleviated. Besides, the LCC-S compensated WPT system can operate under zero phase angle (ZPA) condition with low voltage-ampere rating components. A 1.5kW prototype is built and experimental results show that the system efficiency up to 93% can be achieved under full load, which is 2.3% higher than that of conventional WPT system with two stage power conversion.

    摘要: To satisfy the requirement of high wireless transmission rate from user terminals, the multi-cell cooperative communication is an important solution for cellular networks. The selection of cooperative cells is usually depended on every wireless single cellular coverage boundary in cellular networks. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of wireless single cellular coverage boundary based on real measured data. Moreover, the alpha-stable processes are first proposed to model the wireless single cellular coverage boundary. Simulation results indicate that probability density functions of wireless single cellular coverage boundary can be fitted by alpha-stable processes with 95% confidence interval based on the real measured data. This result provides a basis for cooperative communications considering the anisotropic fading characteristic of wireless signal propagation in wireless single cellular coverage region.

    摘要: We report our recent progress toward the development of optically controlled tunable/reconfigurable THz circuits/components in waveguide configurations for advanced sensing and adaptive wireless communications. The development and demonstration of a modified WR-4.3 variable waveguide attenuator based on photo-excited Si with 60-dB range and 0.7-dB insertion loss will first be reviewed. Then the investigation of a WR-5.1 reconfigurable band-stop filter (BSF) prototype based on photo-induced electromagnetic band gap (PI-EBG) structures using semiconductor mesa arrays will be presented. The center frequency of the BSF can be reconfigured from 166-200 GHz with adjustable stop-band rejection and bandwidth. Finally, the development of high-performance THz integrated switches using the same optical control methodology will be envisioned, investigated and discussed. Preliminary results reveal that the optically controlled RF figure-of-merit (evaluated by RonCorr constant) of 153 THz, allowing them to outperform both conventional solid-state-device-based (e.g., HEMTs) and emerging phase-changing-material-based (e.g., VO2) counterparts, and therefore promising to compete with MEMS switches in the mmW-THz region for a novel class of tunable/reconfigurable circuits/components.
