  • Physical Layer Key Generation

    摘要: Modern automotive Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) are increasingly adopting wireless communications for Intra-Vehicular, Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) protocols as a promising solution for challenges such as the wire harnessing problem, collision detection, and collision avoidance, traffic control, and environmental hazards. Regrettably, this new trend results in new security challenges that can put the safety and privacy of the automotive CPS and passengers at great risk. In addition, automotive wireless communication security is constrained by strict energy and performance limitations of electronic controller units and sensors. As a result, the key generation and management for secure automotive CPS wireless communication is an open research challenge. This article aims to help solve these security challenges by presenting a practical key generation technique based on the reciprocity and high spatial and temporal variation properties of the automotive wireless communication channel. Accompanying this technique is also a key length optimization algorithm to improve performance (in terms of time and energy) for safety-related applications constrained by small communication windows. To validate the practicality and effectiveness of our approach, we have conducted simulations alongside real-world experiments with vehicles and RC cars. Last, we demonstrate through simulations that we can generate keys with high security strength (keys with 67% min-entropy) with 20× reduction in code size overhead in comparison to the state-of-the-art security techniques.

    摘要: The design of traditional mobile wireless network emphasises on large capacity as well as ubiquitous access. However, environmental protection and energy saving may soon become inevitable trends due to rising global demands. In the wireless networking field, researchers should shift their focus towards efficient networks and energy harvesting (EH). In this work, we consider energy efficiency and EH to address the issue of energy shortage, which also represents the ratio of the quantity of data that have been transferred to the dissipated energy within the system, simultaneously. The simulation-based mathematics signifies the relation between energy efficiency ((cid:2159)(cid:2161)(cid:4667) against the training interval ((cid:2176)(cid:2202)(cid:4667) and how the energy efficiency is impacted by the change in block size and number of users.

  • A sensor-centric survey on the development of smartphone measurement and sensing systems

    摘要: Modern mobile phones, featuring high performance microprocessors, rich set of sensors and internet connectivity are largely diffused all over the world and are ideal devices for the development of low-cost sensing systems, in particular for low-income developing countries and rural areas that lack the access to diagnostic laboratories and expensive instrumentation. In the design of a smartphone based sensing system different elements must be taken in consideration such as sensors performance, acquisition rate and privacy preserving strategies when personal data must be shared in the cloud. In this paper a sensor-centric survey on smartphone based sensing systems is presented, covering different fields of application. Two different development approaches will be discussed: 1) the exploitation of the large number of sensors embedded in modern smartphones (high-resolution camera, microphone, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, GPS); 2) the interfacing with external sensors that communicate with the smartphone by the embedded wireless or wired communication technology.

  • Using metasurface structures as signal polarisers in microstrip antennas

    摘要: This study analyses the influence of a metasurface coupled to a rectangular microstrip antenna. The proposed metasurface converts linearly polarised electromagnetic waves into circularly polarised electromagnetic waves. The rectangular microstrip antenna is designed to operate at 2.45?GHz. The metasurface is coupled to the antenna in order to provide a structure capable of radiating circularly polarised electromagnetic waves without the need for adjustments to the antenna feed. In this analysis, the metasurface was designed from unit cells, distributed in a periodic arrangement acting as a polariser, when coupled to the upper part of the antenna. The geometry of the unit cells and their distribution in the arrangement were calculated in order to obtain an axial ratio below 3?dB in the design frequency range. Prototypes of the microstrip antenna and the metasurface were constructed to obtain experimental results and it was possible to observe a good convergence between the simulated and measured results.

    摘要: In visible light communication in which information is superimposed on light, its communication range is visible. On the other hand, when the modulation that brightness is changed according to information is used, it is not good for the human eye because human feels flicker for the changed brightness. In this paper, we propose a novel modulation that can vary the brightness other than 1/4 or 3/4 by combining these pulse position modulation and inverted pulse position modulation. We have two experiments; one is the evaluation for visual flicker by human eye and the other is its communication performance.

    摘要: A compact broadband low-profile dipole antenna with split ring resonators (SRRs) is presented. The antenna is composed of a conventional dipole element and two SRRs. Each arm of the printed dipole is enclosed by a printed SRR to provide the favorable electromagnetic environment for coupling. Three modes are generated, which interact together to provide broadband characteristics, covering 1.45 GHz to 2.49 GHz (|S11| < ?10 dB bandwidth of 52.79%). The antenna is computationally demonstrated to have broadband characteristics and stable gain with symmetric radiation patterns. The compact antenna with overall dimensions of 10.2 mm × 74.6 mm × 0.508 mm (0.067λo × 0.489λo × 0.0033λo at 1.97 GHz) has a radiation efficiency > 90%. The compact size, simple structure, and stable radiation properties of the antenna increase its suitability for many wireless communication applications.

    摘要: Wireless laser communication is a cutting edge technology combining laser communication and wireless communication. The author proposes a laser wireless communication solution based on single chip microcomputer. The system adopts STC12C5A60S2 MCU as the main control chip and encodes laser as communication carrier to realize short-range wireless optical communication. Through Optisystem simulation, the line-of-sight communication within 7.2 m can be achieved without blocking at a laser power of 5 mW and a Beam divergence of 170 mrad.

  • A NEW MINIATURIZED MICROSTRIP BRANCH-LINE COUPLER WITH GOOD HARMONIC SUPPRESSION

    摘要: A new miniaturized microstrip branch-line coupler with good harmonic suppression is proposed in this paper. The new structure has two signi?cant advantages, which not only e?ectively reduces the occupied area to 20.4% of the conventional branch-line coupler at 0.96 GHz, but also has high 6th harmonic suppression performance. The measured results indicate that a bandwidth of more than 120 MHz has been achieved while the phase di?erence between S21 and S31 is within 90? ± 1?. The measured bandwidth of |S21| and |S31| within 3 ± 0.3 dB are 145 MHz and 150 MHz, respectively. Furthermore, the measured insertion loss is comparable to that of a conventional branch-line coupler. The new coupler can be easily implemented by using the standard printed-circuit-board etching processes and is very useful for wireless communication systems.

  • [IEEE 2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD) - Madrid, Spain (2018.9.26-2018.9.28)] 2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD) - 15 Gbps Wireless Link Using W-band Resonant Tunnelling Diode Transmitter

    摘要: A 15 Gbps wireless link over 50 cm distance is reported in this paper. A high power and low phase noise resonant tunneling diode (RTD) oscillator is employed as the transmitter. The fundamental carrier frequency is 84 GHz and the maximum output power is 2 mW without any power amplifier. The measured phase noise value was -79 dBc/Hz at 100 KHz and -96 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset. The modulation scheme used was amplitude shift keying (ASK). The 15 Gbps data link showed a correctable bit error rate (BER) of 4.1×10-3, while lower data rates of 10 Gbps and 5 Gbps had BER of 3.6×10-4 and 1.0×10-6, respectively.
