  • Composition analysis of Ta <sub/>3</sub> N <sub/>5</sub> /W <sub/>18</sub> O <sub/>49</sub> nanocomposite through XPS

    摘要: A characterization of a nanocomposite material consisting of Ta3N5 nanoparticles and W18O49 nanowires is presented. The material is of interest for photocatalytic applications, with a focus on pollution reduction through the photodegradation of dye waste; under white light illumination, the combination of Ta3N5 and W18O49 yielded an enhanced rate of dye degradation relative to Ta3N5 particles alone. The facile method of synthesis is thought to be a promising route for both upscale and commercial utilization of the material. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed a core–shell composite structure with W18O49 present as an overlayer on Ta3N5; the analyzed spectra for the C 1s, O 1s, Ta 4f, N 1s, W 4f, and Na 1s regions are reported. It should be noted that due to differential charging of the underlying Ta3N5 component relative to the W18O49 shell, an additional uncompensated voltage shift may exist in the Ta 4f and N 1s spectra.

  • On the Adherence of Chemically Deposited CdS Films to Common Inorganic Substrates: Effect of Cd <sup>2+</sup> Concentration in Solution, Substrate Surface Chemistry, and Reaction Temperature

    摘要: The bad adherence to the substrate of chemical-solution-deposited chalcogenide films in alkaline solution is a current technological problem. However, this issue is belittled since is commonly solved by employing pre-sensitized substrates or by empirically changing the deposition parameters until 'finding' the 'proper' chemical formulation. For these reasons, the issue of the adherence has not been previously studied. The present research aims to properly discuss the issue of adherence by taking as example CdS. As a substrate, we used float glass sheets to take advantage of this interesting flat glass (different tin content). It was found that both the surface chemical composition of the substrate and the concentration of Cd2+ in the reaction solution play important roles in the adherence of the CdS thin films; an important effect of temperature was also found. The results were also consistent for indium tin oxide and silicon wafer surfaces. We propose a general surface reaction scheme which considers both the surface reactive sites and the hidroxo–cadmium–thiourea complexes of the reaction solution, as well as the formation of a surface intermediate entity which dissociates into a CdS molecule bonded to the surface and byproducts. The adherence depends on the quantity of surface intermediate entities formed, and therefore, the conditions that promote their formation contribute to the adherence: high reagent concentration, high-reactive surface sites, and low reaction temperature.

  • Silicon Oxide-Rich Diamond-Like Carbon: A Conformal, Ultrasmooth Thin Film Material with High Thermo-Oxidative Stability

    摘要: Silicon oxide-containing diamond-like carbon (a-C:H:Si:O) films are a promising class of protective coatings for environmentally-demanding applications owing to their lower residual stresses and superior thermal stability and oxidation resistance relative to undoped diamond-like carbon. However, existing versions of a-C:H:Si:O deposited by traditional methods such as plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) undergo substantial degradation and oxidation at temperatures above 250 °C. This, together with the difficulty of PECVD in depositing conformal coatings on complex geometries such as high-aspect-ratio features, has limited the applicability of a-C:H:Si:O. Here, the unique capabilities of plasma immersion ion implantation and deposition (PIIID) to grow silicon oxide-rich diamond-like carbon materials that are ultrasmooth, continuous, and conformal on high-aspect-ratio topographies are explored. The high concentration of silicon and oxygen in PIIID-grown films (23 ± 5 at.% and 11 ± 4 at.%, respectively) is unrivalled for this class of materials, and drastically increases the resistance to oxidation at high temperatures, compared with PECVD-grown films. The results open the path for using a-C:H:Si:O in applications involving exposure of materials to extreme environments.

  • Landscape of s-triazine molecule on Si(100) by a theoretical x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and x-ray absorption near-edge structure spectra study

    摘要: The chemisorbed structure for an aromatic molecule on a silicon surface plays an important part in promoting the development of organic semiconductor material science. The carbon K-shell x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and the x-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectra of the interfacial structure of an s-triazine molecule adsorbed on Si(100) surface have been performed by the ?rst principles, and the landscape of the s-triazine molecule on Si(100) surface has been described in detail. Both the XPS and XANES spectra have shown their dependence on different structures for the pristine s-triazine molecule and its several possible adsorbed con?gurations. By comparison with the XPS spectra, the XANES spectra display the strongest structural dependency of all of the studied systems and thus could be well applied to identify the chemisorbed s-triazine derivatives. The exploration of spectral components originated from non-equivalent carbons in disparate local environments has also been implemented for both the XPS and XANES spectra of s-triazine adsorbed con?gurations.

  • Band alignment of BiOCl/ZnO core shell nanosheets by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements

    摘要: To improve optoelectronic properties of bismuth oxyhalides, hybrid BiOX photocatalytic materials have draw a great attention, because of the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. The band offset and band alignments are considered as the key parameters to elaborate carrier transport properties in heterojunction. In this paper, to determine the band alignment of BiOCl and ZnO heterostructure, BiOCl/ZnO core shell nanosheets with different thickness of shell layer were synthesized. The valence band offset (VBO or DEV) of BiOCl/ZnO heterostructure was determined using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy measurements. The DEV value of 0.294 § 0.10 eV was calculated by using the Zn 2p3/2, Bi 4f5/2 binding energies as references. Taking the band gaps of 3.37 eV and 3.4 eV for ZnO and BiOCl samples into consideration, respectively, we obtained the type-II band alignment of BiOCl/ZnO heterostructure with a conduction band offset (CBO or DEc) of 0.324 § 0.10 eV.

  • Persistent hydrophilicity for Titanium oxide (TiO2) thin films by Silicon oxide (SiO2) over nanolayers

    摘要: SiO2 thin layers in thicknesses (1, 5, 10, 18 nm) on TiO2 thin layer in thickness 79 nm deposited by reactive RF sputtering technique. The deposited films were heat treated at temperatures (200, 400, 500, 600°C). The surface properties of thin films by atomic force microscopy (AFM), surface chemical composition by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and self-cleaning effect in bi layers, were studied. In addition, enhanced hydrophilicity property in the films under the effect of annealed temperature and persistence without UV light illumination were evaluated.
