  • Sol-Gel Template Synthesis and Characterization of Lu2O3:Eu3+ Nanowire Arrays

    摘要: Uniform Lu2O3:Eu3+ nanowire arrays were successfully prepared by the sol-gel process using anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. The as-synthesized nanowires are homogeneous, highly ordered, and dense and have a uniform diameter of ~300 nm defined by the AAO templates. The X-ray diffraction and selected area electron diffraction results show that the Lu2O3:Eu3+ nanowires have a polycrystalline cubic structure, and the crystallite size of the Lu2O3:Eu3+ nanowires is confined by the AAO template. The nanowires within the AAO template showed good photoluminescence and X-ray-excited optical luminescence performances for Lu2O3:Eu3+. The emission peaks were attributed to the 5D0 → 7FJ transitions of Eu3+ (J = 0, 1, 2, 3).

  • Nonreciprocal optical links based on time-modulated nanoantenna arrays: Full-duplex communication

    摘要: Interference of transmitted and received signals hinders the simultaneous functionality of a conventional optical antenna as a transmitter and receiver which is required for full-duplex communication. The full-duplex communication schemes enabled by dense wavelength division multiplexed optical networks require distinct transmitter/receiver components operating at different wavelengths which increase the cost, complexity, and footprint of the physical layer. In this work, we demonstrate that an array of nanoantennas with leaky-wave architecture based on spatiotemporal modulation establishes nonreciprocal optical links which can reject the interference of transmitted and received signals by isolating the frequency of transmission and reception modes. For this purpose, we integrate indium-tin oxide into plasmonic nanodipoles which allows for realization of time-modulated nanoantennas in near-infrared frequency regime through electrical modulation of charge carrier density with radio-frequency signals. The radiation characteristics of individual nanoantennas and modal properties of nanoantenna arrays are rigorously studied through linking of charge transport and electromagnetic models. To this end, we extend the formulation of discrete dipole approximation as the standard modeling tool for electromagnetic scattering from nanoantenna arrays to treat realistic time-modulated structures with drastically different timescales between optical and modulation frequencies. The operation of spatiotemporally modulated array antennas in transmission and reception modes is investigated. Moreover, electrical beam-scanning functionality and dependence of antenna characteristics to modulation parameters and wavelength are demonstrated. It is rigorously established that such array antennas can operate as full transceivers by separating the transmitted and received signals propagating along the same direction through down conversion and up conversion of the frequency. Our results provide a route toward realization of optical antenna systems capable of full-duplex communication and real-time beam scanning which can increase the capacity and decrease the complexity of optical networks.

  • Uncertainty analysis for ac–dc difference measurements with the AC Josephson voltage standard

    摘要: A detailed analysis of the uncertainties obtained in ac–dc difference measurements with an AC Josephson voltage standard (ACJVS) is presented. For audio frequencies and for voltages less than 200 mV, ac–dc transfers with the ACJVS may reduce the combined uncertainty by factors of 2–10, compared with conventional methods based on thermal converters. Type A uncertainties are predominantly limited by the thermal transfer standard (TTS), or the digital voltmeter used to acquire the output voltage from the TTS. In agreement with earlier work, the transmission line is the primary contributor to Type B errors for frequencies above 10 kHz. A Monte Carlo sensitivity analysis is used to demonstrate how the uncertainties of transmission line impedance and on-chip inductance impact the accuracy of the rms amplitude conveyed to the TTS.

  • Octadecyltrichlorosilane Capped Au Nanodot Arrays as Hydrophobic Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering Substrate for Biomedical Applications

    摘要: Plasmonic nanostructures provide as a highly active-SERS substrate that can potentially achieve biomolecules detection. However, the detection of highly diluted, small volume analyte detection remains an urgent problem, due to the diffuse over the hydrophilic surfaces, which far from the plasmonic sensitive areas and limits the SERS detection sensitivity. In this study, we describe the fabrication and characterization of octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) capped gold nanodot (Au ND) arrays, the combination of hydrophobic surfaces and nanoplasmonics, and demonstrates their suitability as hydrophobic SERS active substrate for biomedical application. The activity of OTS capped Au ND arrays as SERS substrate was experimentally verified using Rhodamine B as an analyte. This substrate showed 3-fold signal enhancement compared to the ordinary hydrophilic Au ND arrays due to the hydrophobic condensation effect. It is expected that the OTS capped Au ND arrays can be lead to development of a highly sensitive and selective tool for biomedical applications using SERS detection.

  • Preparation and properties of Co3O4-doped TiO2 nanotube array electrodes

    摘要: Co3O4-doped TiO2 nanotube array electrodes were prepared by anodizing the Co–Ti alloys with different Co contents. Morphologies, elemental compositions, crystal structures, and electrochemical properties of the samples were characterized through scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and electrochemical workstation. The effects of Co content, annealing temperature and testing electrolyte on the electrochemical properties of the electrodes were studied. Results show that the areal capacitance values of TiO2 nanotube arrays were obviously improved by doping with Co3O4. The electrochemical properties of Co3O4-doped TiO2 nanotube array electrodes were best when the Co content in the alloys was 9%; the annealing temperature was 100 °C and the testing electrolyte was 0.5 M Na2SO4. The Co3O4-doped TiO2 nanotube array electrodes prepared under the optimal conditions had a high areal capacitance value of 937.9 μF cm?2 when the scan rate was 10 mV s?1 and the electrodes exhibited good rate and superior cycling performance.

  • Generalized Friis Transmission Equation for Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) Radios

    摘要: Generalization of a Friis transmission equation for orbital angular momentum (OAM) radios is rigorously formulated using the Lorentz reciprocity theorem and a near-and-far-field convolution integral (NFCI). Based on the discretization of NFCIs, we computed the generalized Friis transmission equation to obtain the power-receiving behaviors of practical helicoidal parabolic reflector antennas (HPRAs) with continuously deformed surfaces. A simplified Friis equation is also used for computing the link budget and approximate Rayleigh length of discrete uniform circular arrays (UCAs) composed of 2×2 dipole antennas. The transmission coefficients for the given OAM modes, represented by our equations for the HPRA and UCA, agree very well with commercial numerical simulators. In addition, an mth-order NFCI, which is an orthogonal convolution integral for the mth OAM mode, is proposed to define a figure of merit for the OAM mode purity of transmitting and receiving antennas.

  • Highly enhanced photoelectrochemical cathodic protection performance of the preparation of magnesium oxides modified TiO2 nanotube arrays

    摘要: The magnesium oxide modified TiO2 nanotube arrays (TiO2 NTs) was prepared to investigate the photoelectrochemical (PEC) cathodic protection performance to 304 stainless steel (SS 304). With the annealing treatment at different temperature, the surface of the modified materials changed remarkably. The film-like Mg(OH)2 obtained at 400 °C transformed to MgO particles after treatment at 500 °C and 600 °C. Further thermal processing at 700 °C enables MgTixOy@TiO2 shell-core structure. Using photoelectrochemical approaches to study the series samples, the cathodic protection performance of the modified TiO2 NTs has significantly improved. The magnesium oxides modified TiO2 NTs treated at 600 °C (Ti-Mg-O 600) shows the best PEC cathodic protection to the underneath steel. Further investigation shows that the highly enhanced PEC cathodic protection performance of Ti-Mg-O 600 was attributed to the effective separation of photogenerated carriers, the increase of carrier concentration and the negative shift of the conduction band potential.

    摘要: We present a fast direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm for coprime array structures. In many practical applications of radar signals processing, reducing the redundancy inherent in linear arrays is advantageous. Arrays employing a coprime-pair configuration offer an increased number of degrees of freedom and permit the detection of more sources than sensors. Traditionally, this is achieved using conventional subspace-based methods. While these methods, such as MUltiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), are capable of high-resolution, the computational complexity of these algorithms is a significant hindrance to their practical implementation as the number of sensors increases. Furthermore, they must resort to spatial smoothing in order to calculate the covariance matrix. We, on the other hand, propose a fast iterative interpolated beamforming algorithm that has a computational complexity of the same order as the fast Fourier transform (FFT). The proposed approach is capable of delivering high fidelity DOA estimates that outperform the traditional high resolution methods. Simulation results demonstrate the DOA estimation performance of the technique.

    摘要: In this paper, we are interested in phased-array imaging of an unknown area using narrowband RF signals and arrays synthesized by an unmanned vehicle. Typical phased array imaging approaches use fixed or pre-determined array configurations for imaging, which are not usually informative for the whole area. In this paper, we then propose an iterative adaptive imaging approach where we identify the uncertain regions in an initial image that need to be sensed better, find the optimal array location and orientation for such a sensing task and finally combine the new image with the initial image to obtain a better overall imaging quality. Such an approach is easily enabled by using robots to synthesize arrays. We validate our proposed approach with numerical simulations and show that an adaptive approach improves the imaging quality as compared to imaging with fixed arrays.
