  • Refractive Index Sensor Based on a Gradient Grating Period Guided-Mode Resonance

    摘要: In this study, we introduce a novel refractive index sensor based on gradient grating period guided-mode resonance (GGP-GMR). Rather than a constant grating period, as in typical GMR, GGP-GMR comprises a grating period varying in increments of 2 nm. For grating variation from 386 to 392 nm, a detection range of 0.109 RIU with a bulk sensitivity of 1433.7 μm/RIU and theoretical and experimental detection limits of 5.58 × 10?3 and 10?2 RIU, respectively, can be achieved. Several tactics that can be readily adopted are suggested to improve the limit of detection by an order to 10?4 RIU, sufficient for detecting many clinically relevant biomarkers. The readout system requires a narrow band of light and a simple charge-coupled device combined with the compact design of the GGP-GMR sensor, which eases the miniaturization of the system for handheld devices as well as its integration with smartphones.

  • Design and Analysis of Complimentary Split Ring Resonator Backed Microstrip Transmission Line Using Equivalent Circuit Model

    摘要: This article presents a compact, low-profile Band-Stop Filter (BSF) designed using Complimentary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR). An equivalent circuit model is also presented along with the simplified mathematical approach to extract the parameters of the circuit model. This paper also presents the effect of variation in the dimensions of split rings on characteristics of BSF. The proposed BSF has a compact size of 27 × 20 mm2 designed an FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant (εr) 4.3. The filter provides complete suppression of the band at 2.4 GHz. The design and circuit analysis of this metamaterial based filter is presented in terms of reflection coefficient, transmission coefficient and impedance curve.

    摘要: This paper presents a reconfigurable dual-band bandstop filter utilizing miniaturized folded ridged quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity. By loading a quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity with a capacitive ridge structure and folding the dominant field around said structure, significant miniaturization is achieved. Folded ridged quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity is shown to reduce the area of standard quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity by 92%, while also increasing the fundamental mode. A spurious-free reconfigurable dual-band bandstop filter using miniaturized folded ridged quarter-mode technology is designed, fabricated, and measured. In order to generate independent tuning of each stopband, two resonators are each loaded with a tunable the same capacitance, and nonresonating node, producing a frequency agile filtering section. Two filtering sections are then coupled together through an impedance inverter to produce a dual-band, two-pole bandstop filter. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper presents the first dual-band bandstop filter using quarter-mode substrate integrated cavity technology in the present literature.

  • Flexible Linear and Angular Displacement Sensor Based on a Gradient Guided-Mode Resonance Filter

    摘要: This paper reports a method for micrometer-scale linear and angular displacement measurement based on a gradient grating period guided-mode resonance (GGP-GMR) filter. When the filter is mounted on a moving or rotating object, the displacement on the object can be observed through the changes in the resonant wavelength, which are detected by the GGP-GMR filter. In this paper, the GGP-GMR filter comprised grating periods from 250 to 550 nm with 2-nm increments. Each period comprised 100 repeated cycles, resulting in a total length of 6 mm. For linear displacement, we achieved an average sensitivity of 67 nm/mm for a detection range of 6 mm and a theoretical limit of detection of 3 μm. To demonstrate the measurement of angular displacement, the GGP-GMR filter was attached to a cylinder with a diameter of 8 cm. The experimental results revealed an average sensitivity of 51.7 nm/° for a range of 7° and an experimental limit of detection of 0.002°.
