  • Phased Transmitarray Antennas for 1-D Beam Scanning

    摘要: A transmitarray antenna (TAA) fed by a phased array antenna (PAA) for one-dimensional (1-D) beam scanning is proposed at 10 GHz in this letter. The TAA is composed of two types of elements, i.e., the hexagonal subwavelength low-pass elements as well as the pure dielectric ones. The PAA feed is a 1-D printed dipole array loaded with the short-circuited dummy ones. The proposed PAA-fed TAA, with a feeding distance to TAA diameter ratio (H/D) of mere 0.375, achieves a peak simulated gain of 25.6 dBi at 0o scanning (corresponding to peak aperture efficiency of 57.5%) and a 3.13 dB gain drop for ±30o beam scanning, along with a ~2-dB beam crossover. The measured results agree reasonably well with the simulated ones, validating the proposed design.

  • Nonlinear Analytic Solution of Eulerian Beam-Wave Interaction Theory Considering Harmonic Interaction of Traveling-Wave Tube Amplifiers

    摘要: In this paper, a novel Eulerian nonlinear beam-wave interaction (BWI) theory considering harmonic interaction of a helix traveling-wave tube (TWT) is developed. Derived from this Eulerian model, the novel Eulerian nonlinear analytic solutions (the fourth-order analytic solution of fundamental and the second-order analytic solution of harmonic) are first obtained by the method of successive approximation. The analytic relationships between electric fields of fundamental/harmonic frequencies and electron phases are also found. Then, the Eulerian nonlinear analytic solutions and Eulerian nonlinear BWI theory are compared to a Lagrangian theory. C-band and Ku-band helix TWTs based on a single pitch section are included in the simulation. It is found that the Eulerian nonlinear analytic solutions and Eulerian nonlinear BWI theory agree well with the Lagrangian theory at 1-dB gain compression point. Interestingly, the saturation effects caused by electron overtaking cannot be found by the traditional Eulerian analysis but can be described by the Eulerian nonlinear analytic solutions and Eulerian nonlinear BWI theory. Moreover, Eulerian nonlinear analytic solutions are simpler and more accurately than existing approaches and, thus, allow analytical progress. This paper confirms that the Eulerian nonlinear analytic solutions can outperform the previous proposals.

  • Improvement of the Beam-Wave Interaction Efficiency Based on the Coupling-Slot Configuration in an Extended Interaction Oscillator

    摘要: A method aimed at improving the beam-wave interaction efficiency by changing the coupling slot configuration has been proposed in the study of extended interaction oscillators (EIOs). The dispersion characteristics, coupling coefficient and interaction impedance of the high-frequency structure based on different types of coupling slots have been investigated. Four types of coupled cavity structures with different layouts of the coupling slots have been compared to improve the beam-wave interaction efficiency, so as to analyze the beam-wave interaction and practical applications. In order to determine the improvement of the coupling slot to a coupled cavity circuit in an EIO, we designed four nine-gap EIOs based on the coupled cavity structure with different coupling slot configurations. With different operating frequencies and voltages takes into consideration, beam voltages from 27 to 33 kV have been simulated to achieve the best beam-wave interaction efficiency so that the EIOs are able to work in the 2π mode. The influence of the Rb and the ds on the output power is also taken into consideration. The Rb is the radius of the electron beam, and the ds is the width of the coupling slot. The simulation results indicate that a single-slot-type EIO has the best beam-wave interaction efficiency. Its maximum output power is 2.8 kW and the efficiency is 18% when the operating voltage is 31 kV and electric current is 0.5 A. The output powers of these four EIOs that were designed for comparison are not less than 1.7 kW. The improved coupling-slot configurations enables the extended interaction oscillator to meet the different engineering requirements better.

  • Propagation of Lorentz beam in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media

    摘要: Based on the Collins formula in strongly nonlocal nonlinear media (SNNM), the analytical expression for Lorentz beam passing through SNNM has been derived. It is found that the propagation behavior of Lorentz beam is variable and closely related to the parameters of initial ellipticity p and input power. The beam has its own critical power in x and y directions, respectively. If the Lorentz beam with critical power in a certain direction enters in SNNM, its beam width will remain constant in that direction during propagation, otherwise its beam width varies periodically, as either broad or compressed. Moreover, when p ? 1, the beam spot is always symmetrical in x and y directions; when p 6? 1, the beam spot is no longer symmetrical in x and y directions. Numerical simulations are carried out to illustrate these quintessential propagation properties.

  • Assessment of CT numbers in limited and medium field-of-view scans taken using Accuitomo 170 and Veraviewepocs 3De cone-beam computed tomography scanners

    摘要: Purpose: To assess the influence of anatomic location on the relationship between computed tomography (CT) number and X-ray attenuation in limited and medium field-of-view (FOV) scans. Materials and Methods: Tubes containing solutions with different concentrations of K2HPO4 were placed in the tooth sockets of a human head phantom. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were acquired, and CT numbers of the K2HPO4 solutions were measured. The relationship between CT number and K2HPO4 concentration was examined by linear regression analyses. Then, the variation in CT number according to anatomic location was examined. Results: The relationship between K2HPO4 concentration and CT number was strongly linear. The slopes of the linear regressions for the limited FOVs were almost 2-fold lower than those for the medium FOVs. The absolute CT number differed between imaging protocols and anatomic locations. Conclusion: There is a strong linear relationship between X-ray attenuation and CT number. The specific imaging protocol and anatomic location of the object strongly influence this relationship.

  • Effect of object position in the field of view and application of a metal artifact reduction algorithm on the detection of vertical root fractures on cone-beam computed tomography scans: An <i>in vitro</i> study

    摘要: Purpose: To assess the effects of object position in the field of view (FOV) and application of a metal artifact reduction (MAR) algorithm on the diagnostic accuracy of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for the detection of vertical root fractures (VRFs). Materials and Methods: Sixty human single-canal premolars received root canal treatment. VRFs were induced in 30 endodontically treated teeth. The teeth were then divided into 4 groups, with 2 groups receiving metal posts and the remaining 2 only having an empty post space. The roots from different groups were mounted in a phantom made of cow rib bone, and CBCT scans were obtained for the 4 different groups. Three observers evaluated the images independently. Results: The highest frequency of correct diagnoses of VRFs was obtained with the object positioned centrally in the FOV, using the MAR algorithm. Peripheral positioning of the object without the MAR algorithm yielded the highest sensitivity for the first observer (66.7%). For the second and third observers, a central position improved sensitivity, with or without the MAR algorithm. In the presence of metal posts, central positioning of the object in the FOV significantly increased the diagnostic sensitivity and accuracy compared to peripheral positioning. Conclusion: Diagnostic accuracy was higher with central positioning than with peripheral positioning, irrespective of whether the MAR algorithm was applied. However, the effect of the MAR algorithm was more significant with central positioning than with peripheral positioning of the object in the FOV. The clinical experience and expertise of the observers may serve as a confounder in this respect.

  • Electric-Field Control of Dirac Two-Dimensional Electron Gas in PbTe/CdTe Heterostructures

    摘要: Two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) confined to quantum wells trigger rich emergent phenomena and serve as a host for high-speed electronics. 2DEG in PbTe/CdTe heterostructure was predicted to be Dirac electrons and confirmed by recent experiments. Here, we demonstrate the manipulation of electrical transport properties of this 2DEG with extremely high mobility and unique electron structure by ionic liquid-gating. The extreme capacitance of carrier modulation enables to tune the band structure. With a change of the gate voltage, the Fermi level moves to the conduction band and crosses the Dirac Point, leading to the shift of quantum oscillation. Our results may offer new insight toward electronic application with on-demand properties.

  • Impact of sulphurization environment on formation of $$\hbox {Cu}_{2}\hbox {ZnSnS}_{4}$$ Cu 2 ZnSnS 4 films using electron beam evaporated stacked metallic precursors

    摘要: The superiority of copper zinc tin sulphide (Cu2ZnSnS4; CZTS) over the existing absorber layer materials is inevitable owing to its cheap, non-toxic and earth abundant constituents with high absorption coefficient value. In the present study, CZTS films are prepared by sulphurizing electron beam deposited precursors of glass/Cu/Zn/Sn/Cu and glass/Cu/Sn/Zn/Cu stacking sequences in two different environments i.e., elemental S powder and 5% H2S + N2 gas at different ramping rates. The effect of sulphurization environment and sulphurization ramping rate on the formation of CZTS is investigated using X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The morphology and composition of the films are analysed respectively using field emission gun scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. It is observed that films prepared in elemental S powder at a low ramping rate exhibit better crystallinity with less impurity phases. The presence of ZnS is observed in all the films, while the presence of SnS is observed in films prepared with H2S gas alone, thus concluding that sulphurization in the presence of elemental S powder at a low ramping rate is highly favourable for CZTS film formation. CZTS films with minor ZnS impurity with a bandgap of 1.48 eV is successfully fabricated by using a glass/Cu/Zn/Sn/Cu precursor stack.

  • Optical Band Gap, Local Work Function and Field Emission Properties of MBE Grown β-MoO3 Nanoribbons

    摘要: Monoclinic molybdenum trioxide (β-MoO3) nanostructures (shaped like nanoribbons: NRs) were grown on Si(100), Si(5512) and fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) technique under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions. The dependence of substrate conditions and the effective thickness of MoO3 films on the morphology of nanostructures and their structural aspects were reported. The electron microscopy measurements show that the length and the aspect ratio of nanostructures increased by, 260% without any significant change in the width for a change in effective thickness from 5 nm to 30 nm. NRs are grown along <011> for all the effective thickness of MoO3 films. Similarly, when we increased the film thickness from 5 nm to 30 nm, the optical band gap decreased from 3.38± 0.01eV to 3.17± 0.01eV and the local work function increased from 5.397 ± 0.025 eV to 5.757 ± 0.030 eV. Field emission turn-on field decreased from 3.58 V/μm for 10-μA/cm2 to 2.5 V/μm and field enhancement factor increased from 1.1×104 to 5.9×104 for effective thickness variation of 5 nm to 30 nm β-MoO3 structures. The β-MoO3 nanostructures found to be much better than the α-MoO3 nanostructures due to low work function, low turn on field and high field enhancement factor, and are expected to be useful applications.
