  • Ultrafast Response Polyelectrolyte Humidity Sensor for Respiration Monitoring

    摘要: Respiration monitoring is important for evaluating human health. Humidity sensing is a promising way to establish a relationship between human respiration and electrical signal. This work describes polymer humidity sensors with ultrafast response for respiration monitoring. The humidity-sensitive polyelectrolyte is in situ crosslinked on the substrate printed with interdigitated electrodes by a thiol-ene click reaction. The polyelectrolyte humidity sensor owns rapid water adsorption/desorption ability, excellent stability and repeatability. The sensor with ultrafast response and recovery (0.29 s/0.47 s) when changing humidity between 33% and 95% shows good application prospects in breath monitoring and touchless sensing. Different respiration patterns can be distinguished and the breath rate/depth of detection subjects can also be determined by the sensor. In addition, the obtained sensor can sense the skin evaporation by a non-contact way.

  • Microstructured optical fiber based Fabrya??P??rot interferometer as a humidity sensor utilizing chitosan polymeric matrix for breath monitoring

    摘要: This study reports a method for humidity sensing based on a specialty microstructured optical fiber (MOF). A suspended tri-core MOF was fabricated using the stack and draw technique. A low finesse sensing head was prepared by depositing a chitosan polymer matrix within the holes of the MOF, forming a Fabry-Pérot interferometer as a sensing platform while the chitosan film acts as the sensing material. The use of the probe for real-time breath monitoring was also successfully demonstrated. The probe possessed a maximum sensitivity of 81.05 pm/(%RH) for 90–95%RH range while the linear region of the sensor ranged from 70–95%RH. The temperature cross correlation was also experimented, and a lower influence of external temperature was observed. The probe shows an ultrafast response during human breath monitoring with a rising time and recovery time of 80 ms and 70 ms, respectively.

    摘要: Optical fiber sensors are nowadays rapidly growing in the field of biomedical applications. It is possible to measure various variables, such as vital function, perform analysis of an analyte or observe bioluminescence. Specialized measurement using fiber optic sensors is the breath monitoring. For example, this system can be embedded into a bed for, or it can be a mobile device. Due to the passivity at the place of measurement and the use of non-magnetic materials in probe design, this solution is particularly interesting in applications where the environment is disturbed by the strong magnetic field such as in magnetic resonance imaging. The passivity of the sensor and operation over to long distance led to the idea of integration of sensors directly into the passive optical network. The design of coexistence of optic-fiber biosensors and PON is the primary aim of this publication. The proposed simulations and laboratory measurements point to problems that cause sensor integration into the network. As a result, methods for integrating sensors without compromising the communication part of the network are presented.
