  • Highly enhanced photoelectrochemical cathodic protection performance of the preparation of magnesium oxides modified TiO2 nanotube arrays

    摘要: The magnesium oxide modified TiO2 nanotube arrays (TiO2 NTs) was prepared to investigate the photoelectrochemical (PEC) cathodic protection performance to 304 stainless steel (SS 304). With the annealing treatment at different temperature, the surface of the modified materials changed remarkably. The film-like Mg(OH)2 obtained at 400 °C transformed to MgO particles after treatment at 500 °C and 600 °C. Further thermal processing at 700 °C enables MgTixOy@TiO2 shell-core structure. Using photoelectrochemical approaches to study the series samples, the cathodic protection performance of the modified TiO2 NTs has significantly improved. The magnesium oxides modified TiO2 NTs treated at 600 °C (Ti-Mg-O 600) shows the best PEC cathodic protection to the underneath steel. Further investigation shows that the highly enhanced PEC cathodic protection performance of Ti-Mg-O 600 was attributed to the effective separation of photogenerated carriers, the increase of carrier concentration and the negative shift of the conduction band potential.

  • CoPi/Co(OH)2 Modified Ta3N5 as New Photocatalyst for Photoelectrochemical Cathodic Protection of 304 Stainless Steel

    摘要: In this work, CoPi and Co(OH)2 nanoparticles were deposited on the surface of Ta3N5 nanorod-arrays to yield a novel broad-spectrum response photocatalytic material for 304 stainless steel photocatalytic cathodic protection. The Ta3N5 nanorod-arrays were prepared by vapor-phase hydrothermal (VPH) and nitriding processes and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and UV-Vis spectroscopy, respectively, to obtain morphologies, crystal structures, surface compositions, and light response range. In order to analyze the performance improvement mechanism of CoPi/Co(OH)2 on Ta3N5 nanorod-arrays, the electrochemical behavior of modi?ed and unmodi?ed Ta3N5 was obtained by measuring the open circuit potential and photocurrent in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. The results revealed that the modi?ed Ta3N5 material better protects 304 stainless steel at protection potentials reaching ?0.45 V.

  • A novel electrochemical method for simultaneous measurement of real-time potentials and photocurrent of various photoelectrochemical systems

    摘要: Two-electrode configuration is preferably used in practical application of various photoelectrochemical systems, such as green fuel production and cathodic protection. Photo electrodes are extendedly studied but the effects of the dark electrodes on overall performance of PEC systems are not experimentally figured out. To address this issue, herein, a novel electrochemical method achieving simultaneous measurement of photocurrent and real-time potential of the photo electrode and the dark electrode is proposed. With this method, the actual band positions and band bending of the photo electrode under photocurrent going through can be determined correctly. By investigating photoelectrochemical hydrogen production and cathodic protection with ZnO photo anodes, it is revealed that the amplitude of photocurrent is not solely determined by the number of light generated electrons on the photo electrode but also strongly affected by their consuming rate for electrochemical reactions on the dark electrode. These applications demonstrate the practicality, reliability and universality of the proposed method for comprehensive understanding the reactions of various photoelectrochemical systems and eventually for their better development.

  • Synthesis and Characterization of Eu-Doped SrTiO<sub>3</sub> Photocatalytic Materials Using in the Cathodic Protection of 304 Stainless Steel

    摘要: In this paper, sample of Eu-doped SrTiO3 was synthesized using hydrothermal method, in which the Eu(NO3)3 and Sr(OH)2 were as the Eu and Sr source. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope(SEM) were used to characterize the structure and ingredient of the as-prepared samples. The results show that high-purity of SrTiO3 was prepared and structure of SrTiO3 without change with Eu doping. Also, performance of cathodic protection of stainless steel was tested in the photoelectricity cell. Furthermore, the mechanism of the improvement by the rare earth was also detected.
