  • A novel peptide-based fluorescent chemosensor for Cd(II) ions and its applications in bioimaging

    摘要: Nowadays, it is of great significance to develop a novel fluorescent chemosensor for Cd(II) ions detection with cost-effective, rapid, facile and applicable to environment and biological milieus. Herein, we report a new peptide-based fluorescent chemosensor DSC (Dan-Ser-Cys-NH2) based on dipeptide (Ser-Cys-NH2) conjugated with dansyl group, which was synthesized using solid phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) technology. As designed, DSC exhibited fluorescent “turn-on” response for Cd2+ in 100% aqueous solution over a wide range of pH values based on photoinduced electron transfer (PET). The stoichiometry binding of DSC and Cd2+ was determined to be 2:1 by Job’s plot and ESI-MS analysis. Furthermore, DSC showed highly sensitive for Cd2+ and a low detection limit of 13.8 nM. What's more, DSC has cell permeability and low cytotoxicity, and fluorescence imaging experiments demonstrated that DSC was capable of monitoring Cd2+ in living HK2 cells by confocal microscopy.

  • Versatile Processing of Metal-Organic Framework-Fluoropolymer Composite Inks with Chemical Resistance and Sensor Applications

    摘要: We report a new class of MOF inks with a water-repellent, photocurable fluoropolymer (PFPE) having up to 90 wt% MOF loading. These MOF inks enable to process various MOFs through spray coating, pen writing, stencil printing, and moulding at room temperature. Upon UV-curing, the hydrophobic PFPE matrix efficiently blocks water permeation but allows accessibility of chemicals into MOF pores, thereby freeing the MOF to perform its unique function. Moreover, by introducing functional MOFs we successfully demonstrated a water-tolerant chemosensor for a class of aromatic pollutants in water and a chemical-resistant thermosensor for visualizing temperature image. This approach would open up innumerable opportunities for those MOFs that are otherwise dormant.

  • Optically active crown ether-based fluorescent sensor molecules: A mini-review

    摘要: This mini‐review focuses on fluorescent optically active crown ethers (polymeric derivatives are not included) reported in the literature (according to our knowledge), of which enantiomeric recognition ability, and in some cases, also inorganic cation complexation properties, were investigated by the sensitive and versatile fluorescence spectroscopy. These crown ether‐based chemosensors contain various fluorophore signaling units such as binaphthyl, anthracene, pyrene, tryptophan, benzimidazole, terpyridine, acridine, phenazine, acridone, BODIPY, and another conjugated aromatic one.

  • A Simple Rhodanine-Based Fluorescent Sensor for Mercury and Copper: The recognition of Hg2+ in aqueous solution, and Hg2+/Cu2+ in organic solvent

    摘要: Detection of copper and mercury attracts important in most environmental and biological systems. In this study, the simple probe 2-OxI-Rh containing rhodanine core was synthesized by a green approach and sensing properties were studied using colorimetric and fluorometric detection. The research indicated that the specific ion affinity for Hg2+ ions in aqua systems and the multi-ion affinity for Hg2+ and Cu2+ in organic solvent results in drastic color and spectral changes. According to the data obtained, while the peak intensity increases at 390 nm, the peak intensity decreased at 272 nm in the absorption spectrum of 2-OxI-Rh and an increase in fluorescence intensity of 2-OxI-Rh were observed in the presence of Hg2+ and Cu2+ ions. The binding ratio of 2-OxI-Rh to Hg2+ and Cu2+ were found to be 1:1 according to Job's plot experiments. The binding constants were calculated using the Benesi-Hildebrand equation and found to be 2.15×104 M?1 for Hg2+ and 1.21×104 M?1 for Cu2+. Based on these concentration dependent fluorescence changes, the limit of detection (LOD) values were also calculated and found to be 3.36 μM for Hg2+ and 2.31 μM for Cu2+, which is the range of copper that should be in the blood (11.8–23.6 μM). As a result of all these studies, we can understand that prove 2-OxI-Rh, which is non-toxic, is a good selective candidate turn-on sensor that can be used for Hg2+ and Cu2+ detection in different solvent systems.

  • A new benzimidazole-based selective and sensitive ‘on-off’ fluorescence chemosensor for Cu <sup>2+</sup> ions and application in cellular bioimaging

    摘要: Two new twinborn benzimidazole derivates (L and A), which bonded pyridine via the ester space on the opposite and adjacent positions of the benzene ring of benzimidazole respectively, were designed and synthesized. Compound L displayed fluorescence quenching response only towards copper(II) ions (Cu2+) in acetonitrile solution with high selectivity and sensitivity. However, compound A presented 'on–off' fluorescence response towards a wide range of metal ions to different degrees and did not have selectivity. Furthermore, compound L formed a 1:1 complex with Cu2+ and the binding constant between sensor L and Cu2+ was high at 6.02 × 104 M?1. Job's plot, mass spectra, IR spectra, 1H‐NMR titration and density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrated the formation of a 1:1 complex between L and Cu2+. Chemosensor L displayed a low limit of detection (3.05 × 10?6 M) and fast response time (15 s) to Cu2+. The Stern–Volmer analysis illustrated that the fluorescence quenching agreed with the static quenching mode. In addition, the obvious difference of L within HepG2 cells in the presence and absence of Cu2+ indicated L had the recognition capability for Cu2+ in living cells.

  • A selective fluorescent chemosensor for Cd2+ based on 8-hydroxylquinoline-benzothiazole conjugate and imaging application

    摘要: A 8-hydroxylquinoline-benzothiazole conjugate (HQ-BT) was facilely synthesized by two steps with more than 60% total reaction yield. The HQ-BT showed a weak fluorescence that could be strongly enhanced by coordination with various metal ions such as Al3+, Cd2+, Zn2+ in methanol containing 1% water. Interestingly, the selectivity toward Cd2+ was achieved by increasing water fraction to 30% aqueous methanol solution. Thus, the HQ-BT was developed as a new and selective fluorescent chemosensor for Cd2+ in aqueous solution with a broad pH region 4–12. A good linear relationship between the fluorescence intensity and the Cd2+ concentration was found in the range of 0–5 μM with a detection limit of 0.1 μM (S/N = 3). It was also succesfully used for fluorescence imaging of Cd2+ in living cells.

  • Azaindole-BODIPYs: Synthesis, fluorescent recognition of hydrogen sulfate anion and biological evaluation

    摘要: The synthesized and sensing capability of two novel azaindole substituted mono and distyryl BODIPY dyes against bisulfate anion were reported. Structural characterizations of the targeted compounds were conducted by using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopies. Photophysical properties of the azaindole substituted BODIPY compounds were investigated employing absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies in acetonitrile solution. It was found that the final compounds 3 and 4 exhibited exclusively selective and sensitive turn-off sensor behavior on HSO4- anion. Additionally, the stoichiometry ratio of the targeted compounds to bisulfate anion was measured 0.5 by Job’s method. Also, density function theory was performed to the optical response of the sensor for targeted compounds. Furthermore, the cytotoxicity of Azaindole-BODIPYs were examined against living human leukemia K562 cell lines.

  • A novel coumarin-based fluorescence chemosensor for Al3+ and its application in cell imaging

    摘要: As an efficient turn-on fluorescent chemosensor for Al3+, a new coumarin derivative (CND) has been designed and synthesized by the condensation of 8-formyl-7-hydroxycoumarin with niacin hydrazide. The spectroscopic studies revealed that the sensor CND exhibited a remarkable fluorescence enhancement towards Al3+ with high selectivity and sensitivity in EtOH-HEPES (95:5, v/v, pH = 7.40), which was attributed to the photoinduced electron transfer (PET) and -C=N isomerization mechanism. Fluorescence titration calculations data showed that the detection limit and the association constants of CND for Al3+ were found to be 2.51×10-7 M and 9.64×104 M-1, respectively. The results of experiments, including Job,s plot, 1H NMR titration and ESI-MS, revealed that the stoichiometric binding between CND and Al3+ was 1:1. The investigations of the pH dependency of CND for Al3+ detection, and the cell imaging suggested the sensor CND could be promisingly applied for the recognition of Al3+ in biological cells.

  • Synthesis of a Novel Fluorescent Cyanide Chemosensor Based on Photoswitching Poly(pyrene-1-ylmethyl-methacrylate-random-methyl methacrylate-random-methacrylate spirooxazine)

    摘要: The photoswitching poly(pyrene-1-ylmethyl-methacrylate-random-methyl methacrylate-random-methacrylate spirooxazine) was synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization and characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The obtained copolymer exhibited the capability of erasable and rewritable photo-imaging, making it a potential candidate for optical data storage materials. Moreover, the copolymer also showed the sensing ability for cyanide anions effect in aqueous solutions.

  • Highly selective fluorescence chemosensor based on carbon-dot-aerogel for detection of aniline gas

    摘要: Solid-state fluorescence sensing has become a research hotspot because it is simple and convenient in practical operation. In this study, the carbon dots (CDs)-silica aerogel solid fluorescent material was developed for the selective detection of aniline gas. The blue CDs were prepared by one-step simply hydrothermally treating low-cost sawdust, then CDs-silica aerogel composite material with the high specific surface areas and high porosity was prepared by sol-gel method based on abundant hydroxyl groups on the surface of the CDs which can initiate the gelation of tetraethyl orthosilicate. It is capable of selectively distinguishing toxic gaseous aniline with other volatile organic vapors by sensitive fluorescence quenching, and under optimal conditions, the fluorescence quenching efficiency of aniline gas can reach 76.4%. It is expected that our strategy might provide a new approach for developing a low cost, fast and sensitive CDs-based probe for environmental sensing applications.
