    摘要: In this paper, we demonstrate that the solid cylinder dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) is a high radiation efficient device to generate orbital angular momentum (OAM) waves with different OAM modes at different frequencies. Theoretical formulations of its radiation fields are deduced in the cylindrical coordinate system, which shows that all components of the electric and magnetic fields have the azimuth dependence of ejm?. A full-wave simulation on a practical size CDRA is then implemented to validate the theoretical derivations. The simulation results show that different separated OAM modes can be obtained at different frequencies. Specifically, the higher order OAM modes are generated at higher electron magnetic modes, which makes CDRA a promising method to overcome the narrow band and multiband issues existing in the design of current OAM devices. Furthermore, a maximum radiation efficiency of 97.1% at 13.3 GHz, and a minimum radiation efficiency of 72.4% at 19.45 GHz are obtained in our simulation, which is a high radiation efficiency feature at the OAM resonant frequencies.

  • A NOVEL COMPACT THREE-PORT DIELECTRIC RESONATOR ANTENNA WITH RECONFIGURABLE PATTERN FOR WLAN SYSTEMS

    摘要: Splitting a cylinder dielectric resonator into four uniform quarters generates a new dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) shape, which is named a quarter volume of cylinder dielectric resonator antenna (QVCDRA) in the paper. On the basis, a novel compact three-port dielectric resonator antenna with recon?gurable radiation pattern is presented for WLAN systems at 5.2 GHz. A ?10 dB impedance bandwidth of 16.20%, covering the frequency range from 4.75 GHz to 5.54 GHz, is obtained with an isolation of lower than ?19 dB. The structure consists of three QVCDRAs that arrange evenly around Z axis, and as a result possesses the advantage of compact structure, wide impendence band and recon?gurable radiation patterns. The volume of the proposed three-port DRA without ground plane is only 0.0216λ3 d (λd is the dielectric wave length at the central operation frequency). The proposed antenna is analyzed in detail. Antenna prototype is fabricated and tested. The simulation and test results are in good agreement.

  • A Low-profile Wide Band “S” Shaped Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna for “X” Band Application

    摘要: The main goal of this article is to design a low-profile wide band Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA). The proposed “S” shaped rectangular DRA is excited by means of a popular microstrip line feeding. By using “S” shaped design, our proposed DRA yields an impedance bandwidth of 32% from 9.2 to 12.48 GHz, covering “X” band frequency. The proposed antenna has a wide impedance bandwidth, extremely low profile with the volume of 447 mm3, and a thickness equal to 2.5 mm. This design provides stable radiation patterns and high radiation efficiency. The proposed design is compared with some other designs in the literature in order to emphasize its significance. The proposed RDRA was fabricated and its characteristics were tested. Excellent agreement between simulated and measured ones was obtained.

    摘要: This paper examines a triple band cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) with three different radiating modes, i.e., HEM11δ, TM01δ, and HEM12δ. Excitation of all these radiating modes simultaneously, in CDRA, is the most challenging task, which have been accomplished by using composite feeding structure [combination of vertical strip and psi-shaped (ψ) microstrip line]. Out of three radiating mode, two hybrid modes (i.e., HEM11δ and HEM12δ) radiate in broadside direction, while remaining one (TM01δ) creates monopole like radiation pattern. Diversi?ed radiation patterns make the proposed CDRA suitable for different wireless applications. Simulated outcomes of the proposed antenna design have been practically con?rmed with the help of archetype of proposed antenna. The proposed CDRA is working in three different frequency bands: 2.5–3.02, 3.76–3.86, and 4.38–4.72 GHz. The proposed radiator is quite suitable for WiMAX (2.5 GHz) and vehicular applications.

    摘要: A novel tunable band-notch as well as narrow band reconfigurable coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed UWB Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) has been proposed in this paper. The tunable band-notch and narrow band characteristics are achieved by placing split ring resonators (SRR) below the coplanar waveguide gap. A pair of varactor loaded SRR placed in the slots of the feeding CPW line contribute to a band-notch tuning of 1 GHz. The gain of the standalone DRA is 2 - 4 dBi in the operating range from 4 GHz to 11 GHz. The impedance bandwidth of the standalone DRA is from 2.8 GHz to 11 GHz. The narrowband characteristics is achieved by placing switches between signal and ground line of the CPW precisely above the SRRs. This antenna can be used for both interweave and underlay dynamic spectrum access in Cognitive Radio Applications.

The proposed antenna offers stable broadside radiation pattern which can be effectively used in X band for radar, satellite communication, and wireless computer networks.

    摘要: An offset-fed aperture coupled trapezoid shaped dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is presented and investigated for wideband operation. In the first step, a square DRA is studied and then modified to a trapezoidal shape resonator, which achieves a wideband impedance bandwidth of 500 MHz. For potential operation as a dual-polarized antenna, an offset-feed system is implemented in the next stage. The offset-fed DRA achieves a bandwidth of 440 MHz centered at 2.45 GHz.

  • Triple-Band Dual-Sense Circularly Polarized Hybrid Dielectric Resonator Antenna

    摘要: In this paper, a triple-band dual-sense circularly polarized (CP) hybrid dielectric resonator antenna is proposed. A modified hexagonal dielectric resonator (DR) is top-loaded with a square microstrip ring (SMR). A vertical-tapered-strip connected to a 50-? microstrip line is used to excite the proposed antenna. It is found that the lower and central CP bands correspond to left-handed circular polarization and are produced by the TM11 and TE111 modes of the SMR and modified hexagonal DR, respectively. The upper CP band is formed by the combination of the quasi-TM21 mode of the SMR and quasi-TE111 mode of the DR that exhibits right-handed circular polarization. The measurement results of the fabricated prototype show triple-band response for |S11| < ?10 dB with impedance bandwidths (IBWs) of 17.4% (1.75–2.03 GHz), 28.13% (2.23–2.96 GHz), and 2.97% (3.65–3.76 GHz) in the lower, central, and upper bands, respectively. The measured 3 dB axial ratio bandwidths lying within ?10 dB IBWs are 3.69% (1.86–1.93 GHz), 5.46% (2.67–2.82 GHz), and 2.15% (3.68–3.76 GHz) along with the peak gains of 5 dBic, 5.28 dBic, and 2.36 dBic in the lower, central, and upper bands, respectively.

    摘要: In this paper, we present a polarization reconfigurable liquid dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) incorporating liquid metal. For the liquid dielectric solution, we use ethyl acetate and for the liquid metal solution, an alloy called Galinstan was used. Before introduction of the liquid metal electric field within the DRA was orientated along the Y-axis. Then by injecting the liquid metal into the liquid dielectric, the electric field rotated 45 degrees. Consequently, polarization reconfiguration was achieved. All of the results presented in this paper were obtained through computer simulation in HFSS.

  • ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF RECTANGULAR UNIAXIAL AND BIAXIAL ANISOTROPIC DIELECTRIC RESONATOR ANTENNAS

    摘要: An anisotropic dielectric resonator antenna (ADRA) with uniaxial and biaxial permittivity tensors is characterized by using the dielectric waveguide model. An approximate formula for the Q factor of ADRA is derived. Then, it is shown that by certain conditions a wideband ADRA can be designed. Samples of simulation results are shown to demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed anisotropic technique for enhancing the bandwidth of ADRA. The proposed antenna is simulated by two full wave packages, Ansoft HFSS and CST Microwave Studio, and a good agreement is observed among the results.
