  • Interactions between M-typed solitons based on nonlinear optimization in dispersion management systems

    摘要: Investigations on soliton interactions in dispersion management systems are beneficial to improving the communication capacity. In this paper, the variable-coefficient fifth-order nonlinear Schr?dinger equation, which can be used to describe the soliton interactions in dispersion management systems, is studied analytically. M-typed soliton interactions are presented based on the obtained soliton solutions. Influences of nonlinear effects on M-typed soliton interactions are analyzed. Results indicate that we can effectively control soliton interactions by means of nonlinear optimization of dispersion management systems.

  • Dissipative soliton resonance in a simple linear cavity Tm3+-doped double clad fiber laser with dispersion management

    摘要: We report on the investigation of large energy dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) pulse generation in a simple linear cavity Tm3+-doped fiber laser (TDFL), by using semiconductor saturable absorption mirror (SESAM) as saturable absorber (SA). This DSR TDFL is implemented by utilizing ultra-high numerical aperture 4 (UHNA4) fiber for dispersion compensation. With further dispersion management, the DSR TDFL can generate an average output power of 242 mW with corresponding pulse energy of ~61 nJ. Moreover, the soliton molecules mode-locked operation has also been demonstrated in this TDFL. Our results can provide an easily accessible way to develop large energy TDFLs.

    摘要: In this paper, we report a thulium-doped fiber laser based on non-polarization rotation technique. Increasing the pump power to 2500 mW and adjusting the polarization controllers, Baussian pulse with high pulse energy can be achieved. The pulse duration of de-chirped pulse is 242 fs. Due to dispersion management, most related studies are still focused on the 1 μm band, and few reports are available for the 2 μm band. By using non-polarization rotation technique, the mode-locked start-up threshold can be avoided. At the maximum pump power, the direct output power of the resonator cavity is 272.2 mW, and the corresponding single pulse energy is 1.825 nJ.

    摘要: We experimentally demonstrate an optimization of wide-spectral mode-locking fiber laser carriers by the introduction of two-pulse pump scheme with fiber dispersion management. We also verify the improved transmission performance of optimized wider-spectral carriers in 1km simulated atmospheric turbulent channel. For preferable compatibility and superiority, it can be an adaptive scheme for free space optical communication in the foreseeable future.

  • Nonlinear Fiber Optics || Group-velocity dispersion

    摘要: The preceding chapter showed how the combined effects of group-velocity dispersion (GVD) and self-phase modulation (SPM) on optical pulses propagating inside a fiber can be studied by solving a pulse-propagation equation. Before considering the general case, it is instructive to study the effects of GVD alone. This chapter considers the pulse-propagation problem by treating fibers as a linear optical medium. In Section 3.1 we discuss the conditions under which the GVD effects dominate over the nonlinear effects by introducing two length scales associated with GVD and SPM. Dispersion-induced broadening of optical pulses is considered in Section 3.2 for several specific pulse shapes, including Gaussian and 'sech' pulses. The effects of initial frequency chirping are also discussed in this section. Section 3.3 is devoted to the effects of third-order dispersion on pulse broadening. An analytic theory capable of predicting dispersive broadening for pulses of arbitrary shapes is also given in this section. We discuss in Section 3.4 how the GVD can limit the performance of optical communication systems and how the technique of dispersion management can be used to combat such limitations.

  • Optical microfiber-based ultrafast fiber lasers

    摘要: Optical microfibers drawn from conventional fibers have attracted considerable interests and have found many novel applications. Here, we review recent advances in ultrafast fiber lasers based on optical microfibers. Starting with characteristics and fabrication of optical microfibers, which are closely related to ultrafast fiber lasers, we show that characteristics of large portion of evanescent field, tailorable dispersion, high optical nonlinearity, very low optical loss and full compatibility with conventional fibers are greatly beneficial to novel ultrafast fiber lasers. We then highlight recent works on ultrafast fiber lasers based on optical microfibers in terms of fast saturable absorbers made from optical microfiber-supported nanomaterials, dispersion management and high optical nonlinearity, as well as some other novel ultrafast fiber lasers. Finally, we briefly discuss future opportunities for optical microfiber-based ultrafast fiber lasers, such as high-order dispersion management, nonlinearity management and applications for sensing and measurement.

  • Nonlinear control of M-typed solitons in dispersion management systems

    摘要: As the optical transmission system is developing in the direction of ultra-high speed and ultra-long distance, the dispersion and nonlinearity of optical ?bers has an increasing in?uence on signal transmission. In this paper, the variable-coe?cient higher-order nonlinear Schr?dinger equation is studied to investigate the e?ect of nonlinearity on soliton transmission in dispersion management systems. Analytic soliton solution is derived, and M-typed solitons are observed. The improvement of system performance is analyzed. In addition, a nonlinear control method is proposed based on the analysis of corresponding parameters.
