  • Broadside Scanning Asymmetric SIW LWA with Consistent Gain and Reduced Side Lobe

    摘要: In this paper, a backwards-to-forward continuous beam scanning leaky wave antenna (LWA) is presented in substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology. The antenna radiates from a continuous longitudinal slot etched on its broad wall. The slot is excited by using periodic H-plane steps. An impedance matched unit cell structure is used to suppress the open stop-band in the broadside direction. Bloch wave analysis is used to obtain the propagation characteristics of the antenna. However, due to radiation being obtained only from the shunt type radiating element viz., the longitudinal slot, a gain dip is observed in the broadside direction. Transversal asymmetry is then introduced in the structure to eliminate the gain dip and obtain consistent gain. A prototype of the antenna is fabricated and measured. Continuous beam scanning is achieved from –29o to +30o about the broadside direction with a gain variation of less than 2 dB over 8.0–12.4 GHz. A measured peak gain of 16.1 dBi is obtained. Key structural design parameters of the antenna are identified for controlling the leakage rate. Next, Taylor tapered aperture illumination is used to obtain low sidelobe level (SLL). The Taylor tapered antenna is also fabricated with the measured SLL below -21 dB.

    摘要: The results of a study on the expansion of the frequency range of vibrational curved whip and loop antennas are presented. Optimal designs of these antennas with concentrated reactive loads included in the shoulders are proposed. The study was carried out for a design that appears promising for use as a microstrip antenna. It is a Z-shaped antenna of orthogonal linear polarization and loop antenna, supplemented by concentrated capacitive loads. It is shown that in order to obtain in the Z-shaped antenna and loop antenna a regime of a current close to the traveling wave regime and to obtain broadband, it is sufficient to include no more than four capacitive loads of a certain value in the antenna arm. This makes the construction of a broadband antenna and to reduce the expenditure of time and resources for its development and fabrication in comparison with known works in which it was proposed to include in the arm of the antenna a much larger number of reactive loads.

  • Effects of Anisotropy Field and Easy Axis Dispersions on Squareness Ratio for HDDR-Processed Nd-Fe-B Powders

    摘要: Nd-Fe-B magnetic powders produced by the hydrogenation-decomposition-desorption-recombination process have a lower squareness ratio than sintered magnets. In this paper, the anisotropy ?eld (Hk) distribution was assumed to be a horizontally ?ipped lognormal distribution and the effect of the Hk dispersion on the squareness ratio was investigated by using a micromagnetic simulator. As a result, the squareness ratio was very similar to the experimental demagnetization loop, when (cid:2)Hk(cid:3) was 5500 kA/m and σ Hk/(cid:2)Hk(cid:3) was 30%. Moreover, we investigated the easy axis dispersion of grains on squareness ratio in consideration of soft magnetic or nonmagnetic grain boundaries. As a result, the squareness ratio for the nonmagnetic grain boundary was closer to the experimental value; however, it is dif?cult to describe the experimental demagnetization loop by only considering the easy axis dispersion.

  • Improved Models for Metallic Nanoparticle Cores From Atomic Pair Distribution Function (PDF) Analysis

    摘要: X-ray atomic pair distribution functions (PDFs) were collected from a range of canonical metallic nanomaterials, both elemental and alloyed, prepared using different synthesis methods and exhibiting drastically different morphological properties. Widely applied shape-tuned attenuated crystal (AC) fcc models proved inadequate, yielding structured, coherent, and correlated fit residuals. However, equally simple discrete cluster models could account for the largest amplitude features in these difference signals. A hypothesis testing based approach to nanoparticle structure modelling systematically ruled out effects from crystallite size, composition, shape, and surface faceting as primary factors contributing to the AC misfit. On the other hand, decahedrally twinned cluster cores were found to be the origin of the AC structure misfits for a majority of the nanomaterials reported here. It is further motivated that the PDF can readily differentiate between the arrangement of domains in these multiply-twinned motifs. Most of the nanomaterials surveyed also fall within the sub-5 nm size regime where traditional electron microscopy cannot easily detect and quantify domain structures, with sampling representative of the average nanocrystal synthesized. The results demonstrate that PDF analysis is a powerful method for understanding internal atomic interfaces in small noble metallic nanomaterials. Such core cluster models, easily built algorithmically, should serve as starting structures for more advanced models able to capture atomic positional disorder, ligand induced or otherwise, near nanocrystal surfaces.

  • A statistical description of scattering at the quantum level

    摘要: Quantum physics is undoubtedly the most successful theory of the microscopic world, yet the complexities which arise in applying it even to simple atomic and molecular systems render the description of basic collision probabilities a formidable task. For this reason, approximations are often employed, the validity of which may be restricted to given energy regimes and/or targets and/or projectiles. Now we have found that the lognormal function, widely used for the probability distribution of macroscopic stochastic events (as diverse as periods of incubation of and recovery from diseases, size of grains, abundance of species, fluctuations in economic quantities, etc.) may also be employed to describe the energy dependence of inelastic collisions at the quantum level (including ionization, electron capture and excitation by electrons, positrons, protons, antiprotons, etc.), by allowing for the relevant threshold energy. A physical interpretation is discussed in this article by analogy with the heat capacity of few-level systems in solid state physics. We find the generality of the analysis to extend also to nuclear reactions. As well as aiding the description of collision probabilities for quantum systems, this finding is expected to impact also on the fundamental understanding of the interface between the classical and quantum domains.

  • ISA-Pol: distributed polarizabilities and dispersion models from a basis-space implementation of the iterated stockholder atoms procedure

    摘要: Recently, we have developed a robust, basis-space implementation of the iterated stockholder atoms (BS-ISA) approach for defining atoms in a molecule. This approach has been shown to yield rapidly convergent distributed multipole expansions with a well-defined basis set limit. Here we use this method as the basis of a new approach, termed ISA-Pol, for obtaining non-local distributed frequency-dependent polarizabilities. We demonstrate how ISA-Pol can be combined with localization methods to obtain distributed dispersion models that share the many unique properties of the ISA: these models have a well-defined basis set limit, lead to very accurate dispersion energies, and, remarkably, satisfy commonly used combination rules to a good accuracy. As these models are based on the ISA, they can be expected to respond to chemical and physical changes naturally, and thus, they may serve as the basis for the next generation of polarization and dispersion models for ab initio force-field development.

    摘要: Volumetric solar receiver is one of three main categories of solar receivers. It has great application prospect due to the simple structure, high thermal efficiency, and the air exit temperature can reach above more than 800℃. The porous material is used instead of tube as absorber in volumetric solar receiver to heat the working medium, and the incident radiation can be absorbed gradually from outside to inside. In this study, an one-dimensional volumetric solar receiver calculating model based on porous foam ceramics is constructed. The temperature distributions and radiation absorption efficiencies at different conditions are analyzed, and a kind of secondary heating volumetric solar receiver is put forward to further improve its thermal efficiency. The results show that both the outlet air temperature and the depth for the temperature of air and ceramic solid reaching to stability decreases apparently with decrease of porosity of ceramic foam, but the temperature of front surface of the receiver increases gradually. With decrease of porous ceramic diameter, the air exit temperature decreases gradually, and the depth for the temperature of air and ceramic solid reaching to stability is decreasing, while, the diameter change has little effect on the temperature of front surface. The air exit temperature increases apparently with decrease of air flow rate and rise of inlet air temperature, and increases with increase of incident radiation intensity. The energy absorbing efficiency is decreasing with decrease of air flow rate and rise of inlet air temperature, and decreases with increase of incident radiation intensity. The presented secondary heating type of receiver can improve the energy absorbing efficiency, although the feasibility and economy of this consideration need further verification in future.

    摘要: This paper discusses common types of errors that are frequently present in utility distribution system models and which can significantly influence distribution planning and operational assessments that rely on the model accuracy. Based on Google Earth imagery and analysis of correlation coefficients, this paper also illustrates some common error types and demonstrates methods to correct the errors. Error types include mislabeled interconnections between customers and service transformers, three-phase customers labeled as single-phase, unmarked transformers, and customers lacking coordinates. Identifying and correcting for these errors is critical for accurate distribution planning and operational assessments, such as load flow and hosting capacity analysis.

  • A Novel Inverse Analysis Method to Identify Concentration and Current Density Distributions on Electrode Surface

    摘要: A novel method to identify accurate polarization characteristics for a concentration-dependent electrochemical reaction was developed. This method identifies polarization characteristics which are dependent on concentration on electrode surface of a flow cell. Since the concentration on the electrode surface sitting in a flow cell cannot be measured directly, inverse analysis approach is applied. As the observation information of this inverse problem, total currents on the electrode are measured with different bulk concentration. The unknown polarization characteristics are expressed with piecewise linear function with unknown parameters. The relationship between observation and unknown parameters are modeled with advection-diffusion equation. The fluid velocity field of the flow cell is modeled with Navier-Stokes equation. These equations are discretized by finite volume method. In order to validate the proposed method, identification using both numerically generated data and experimental data were performed. The validation result demonstrated the good accuracy of the method.

  • The mean energy transfer and collisional absorption coefficient of high power laser in plasma

    摘要: The absorption coefficient of high power laser incident normally onto a plasma medium is studied when electron energy distribution obeys non-extensive function. The variation of the absorption coefficient with the incident laser intensity is investigated for different electron temperatures as well as different non-extensive distribution parameter (q). The variation of the absorption coefficient with plasma density is also investigated for different q values for constant temperature. Furthermore the mean rate of energy absorption is evaluated as function of the incident laser intensity for different electron temperatures and q values. The results are compared with ones obtained in Maxwellian case and differences are shown in the corresponding diagrams.
