    摘要: This paper proposes a analysis of a LED driver. The driver consists of a resonant switched capacitor converter designed to operate in CCM and fed from nanogrid. This mode of operation allows the reduction of current peaks and, consequently, reduction of conduction losses. There is ZVS in the turn-off of the switches due to the full charge and discharge of the switched capacitor. Therefore, switching losses are also reduced. The inductor operates at twice the switching frequency, contributing to the reduction of the magnetic elements. In addition, this converter has the advantage of stabilizing the power of the LED by adjusting the switching frequency, without the needing sensors and control circuit, which reduces the cost of the circuit. In order to validate the comparative analysis, a 10W prototype was designed in a laboratory, operating with a switching frequency of approximately 58 KHz, and presenting an overall ef?ciency of 92.8% in nominal conditions.

  • High Voltage, Low Current High-Power Multichannel LEDs LLC Driver by Stacking Single-Ended Rectifiers with Balancing Capacitors

    摘要: In this paper, a new LLC converter for series-connected, high-voltage LEDs is proposed. The proposed LLC converter consists of two stacked, single-ended recti?ers and one balancing capacitor, to compensate for the current deviation of two individual LED strings. The proposed LLC LED driver can use a diode with low voltage stress, even if the secondary LED is connected in series to have a high driving voltage. In addition, even if several series-connected LEDs are changed into two-stacked structures, the balancing capacitor can compensate for the current deviation of the two separated LEDs, as well as the di?erence in leakage inductance of the two stacked single-ended recti?ers. The balancing capacitor can be made equal to the voltage tolerance of the stacked, single-ended recti?er diodes. The proposed circuit can be easily extended to a series channel LED driver circuit, without increasing the voltage stress. To verify the characteristics and operation of the proposed LLC LED driver, a 260W high-power LED driver is implemented.

  • An Area-Efficient 10-Bit Buffer-Reused DAC for AMOLED Column Driver ICs

    摘要: In this paper, we proposed an area-efficient 10-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with buffer-reusing method to dramatically relief the severe area exploding issue in high-definition active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) driver integrated circuits (ICs). In our design, we implement the functionalities of a large number of switches and capacitors in conventional DAC by a compact internal buffer. Furthermore, we minimize the buffer capacity requirement by elaborately reusing the indispensable output buffer in the typical column driver. In this way, we can cut down nearly a half of the decoder-switches and simultaneously reduce the capacitor size from 8 C to 3 C without designing an intricate and power-consuming amplifier separately. A prototype 6-channel column driver employing the proposed buffer-reused DAC was fabricated by 0.35 μm 2P3M BCD (Bipolar, CMOS, DMOS) process and its effective layout area per channel is 0.0429 mm2, which is 42.8% smaller than that of the conventional 10-bit R-C DAC. Besides, the measured differential nonlinearity (DNL) and integral nonlinearity (INL) are 0.514 LSB/0.631 LSB, respectively and the maximum value of inter-channel deviation voltage output (DVO) is 3.25 mV. The settling time within 5.6 μs is readily achieved under 1.5 k?-resistance and 100 pF-capacitance load. Measurement results indicate that the proposed buffer-reused DAC can successfully minimize the die area while maintaining other required performances.

    摘要: This position paper introduces the concept of artificial 'co-drivers' as an enabling technology for future intelligent transportation systems. In Sections I and II, the design principles of co-drivers are introduced and framed within general human–robot interactions. Several contributing theories and technologies are reviewed, specifically those relating to relevant cognitive architectures, human-like sensory-motor strategies, and the emulation theory of cognition. In Sections III and IV, we present the co-driver developed for the EU project interactIVe as an example instantiation of this notion, demonstrating how it conforms to the given guidelines. We also present substantive experimental results and clarify the limitations and performance of the current implementation. In Sections IV and V, we analyze the impact of the co-driver technology. In particular, we identify a range of application fields, showing how it constitutes a universal enabling technology for both smart vehicles and cooperative systems, and naturally sets out a program for future research.

  • High refresh rate and low power consumption AMOLED panel using top-gate n-oxide and p-LTPS TFTs

    摘要: A pixel circuit and a gate driver on array for light-emitting display are presented. By simultaneously utilizing top-gate n-type oxide and p-type low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistors (TFTs), the circuits provide high refresh rate and low power consumption. An active-matrix LED (AMOLED) panel with proposed circuits is fabricated, and driving at various refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120 Hz could be achieved.

  • Research on optimum slowly-rising driver for electro-optic Q-switched laser

    摘要: Electro-optic Q-switch drivers that based on pulse transformer method have been widely used in laser engineering because of the advantages of concise circuits, low supply voltage, low lost, etc., but the long rise time and short pulse duration of the high voltage (HV) pulses have a considerable effect on the Q-switched laser outputs. In this paper, we experimentally investigated the dependence of Q-switched laser outputs on the rise rate of slowly-rising HV pulses in a flash pumped Nd:YAG laser with variable cavity lengths. LiNbO3 Q-switches with various dimensions were used. Based on the experiment results, the optimum slowly-rising HV pulses for any EO Q-switched laser were derived, the only requirement is that voltage near dynamic quarter-wave voltage during the emission of laser pulses. Additionally, the optimum outputs were found to be consistent with the results obtained by using a rapid-switching driver with a rise time of 7 ns. The optimum range of applied voltage was determined to be 0.88 – 1.12 times dynamic quarter-wave voltage.

    摘要: In this paper, a critical study on the improvement of energy efficiency on the commercial light emitting diode (LED) driver along with the development of power conversion technique over the last two decades was conducted. A new classification of LED driver was proposed based on the new technologies and construction invented recently, and the past classifications of LED driver used. The corresponding energy efficiency on different types of LED drivers was studied accordingly. A new effective labeling scheme of energy efficiency on LED driver that will be suitable in Hong Kong from 2019 to 2029 was proposed based on the recent situation and the new classification. This proposed labelling scheme can be used as reference by the manufacturers of LED driver on the selection of power conversion techniques with various levels of energy efficiency.

  • Performance Analysis of Single-Stage LED Buck Driver Topologies for Low-Voltage DC Distribution Systems

    摘要: The demand for lean protein is the main reason for raising domesticated birds in poultry farms for the purpose of farming meat or eggs for food. In these poultry farms, artificial lighting system is an essential factor for the success of the commercial production of egg layers and broilers. Lighting loads connected to the existing AC system requires DC power. Nearly 25% of the total power consumed in India is by lighting loads. Therefore, low-voltage DC distribution system is the new requirement of electrical network to improve energy conservation. In this paper, an energy efficient single-stage LED driver topology is proposed as a better alternative to fluorescent lights used in poultry farms. The proposed topology is a phase-shifted buck converter with reduced size of passive components. The converter is mathematically modelled and designed for a power of 24 W LED lights. An experimental prototype is developed for the proposed converter and the results are validated in terms of cost, energy savings, and energy efficiency with various other LED driver topologies like conventional buck converter and interleaved buck converter. Further to justify the outcome of the proposed LED driver, a case study is also done for poultry farms.

  • A Single-Stage LED Streetlight Driver with Soft-Switching and Interleaved PFC Features

    摘要: This paper presents a single-stage driver with soft-switching and interleaved power-factor correction (PFC) features suitable for light-emitting diode (LED) energy-saving streetlight applications. The proposed LED streetlight driver integrates an interleaved buck-boost PFC converter with coupled inductors and a half-bridge LLC resonant converter into a single-stage power-conversion circuit with reduced voltage stress on the DC-linked capacitor and power switches, and it is suitable for operating at high utility-line voltages. Furthermore, coupled inductors in the interleaved buck-boost PFC converter are operated in discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM) for accomplishing PFC, and the half-bridge LLC resonant converter features zero-voltage switching (ZVS) to reduce switching losses of power switches, and zero-current switching (ZCS) to decrease conduction losses of power diodes. Operational modes and design considerations for the proposed LED streetlight driver are introduced. Finally, a 144 W (36V/4A)-rated LED prototype driver is successfully developed and implemented for supplying a streetlight module and operating with a utility-line input voltage of 220 V. High power factor, low output-voltage ripple factor, low output-current ripple factor, and high efficiency are achieved in the proposed LED streetlight driver.
