摘要: In this paper, functional microstrip array antennas are demonstrated. The double-sided MIC is effectively utilized to realize the functions with a simple structure. Dual circular polarization and CP sense switching capability are achieved on a single-layer substrate.

摘要: A dual-polarized lens antenna system based on isotropic Huygens’ Surfaces is proposed for 12 GHz applications. The multimode resonances of the unit cell of the surface lens are detailed analyzed. Then, a broadband dual-polarized microstrip antenna is combined with the lens as the primary feed to form a lens antenna system. The simulated results demonstrate that the prototype can realize input ports isolation of more than 25 dB, and the gain of more than 17.5 dB over a wide bandwidth (11 ~ 13.5 GHz).

Examining Storm Asymmetries in Hurricane Irma (2017) Using Polarimetric Radar Observations
摘要: Dual-polarization radar observations of Hurricane Irma (2017) provide new insight into the microphysical structure of a mature tropical cyclone that can be tied to the cyclone dynamics. The primary eyewall exhibited a radar signature of hydrometeor size sorting, which implied that large drops fell out near persistent upward motion in the front-right quadrant of the storm, while smaller drops were advected downstream. In the outer rainbands, convective initiation was also preferred in the front-right quadrant, whereas stratiform precipitation was predominant downwind. For both the primary eyewall and outer rainbands, the preferred quadrant for convective initiation was consistent with the expected kinematic asymmetry of a tropical cyclone in weak environmental wind shear but with moderate translation speed. The developing secondary eyewall exhibited a different asymmetry that indicated a stratiform-to-convective transition associated with heavy precipitation in the rear quadrants. This transition is consistent with hypothesized dynamical theories for secondary eyewall formation.

摘要: A novel design concept of multimode ?ltering antenna, which is realized by integrating a multimode resonator and an antenna, has been applied to the design of dual-polarized antenna arrays for achieving a compact size and high performance in terms of broad bandwidth, high-frequency selectivity and out-of-band rejection. To verify the concept, a 2 × 2 array at C-band is designed and fabricated. The stub-loaded resonator (SLR) is employed as the feed of the antenna. The resonant characteristics of SLR and patch as well as the coupling between them are presented. The method of designing the integrated resonator-patch module is explained. This integrated design not only removes the need for separated ?lters and traditional 50-Ω interfaces but also improves the frequency response of the module. A comparison with the traditional patch array has been made, showing that the proposed design has a more compact size, wider bandwidth, better frequency selectivity, and out-of-band rejection. Such low-pro?le light weight broadband dual-polarized arrays are useful for space-borne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and wireless communication applications. The simulated and measured results agree well, demonstrating a good performance in terms of impedance bandwidth, frequency selectivity, isolation, radiation pattern, and antenna gain.

Dynamic characterization of beating sinusoidal wave oscillations in a thin-slice solid-state laser with coupled orthogonally polarized transverse modes
摘要: Dynamic characterization of self-induced beating sinusoidal wave (BSW) oscillations and related phenomena, which were previously explored in a thin-slice dual-polarization solid-state laser operating in the regime of incomplete mode-locking of orthogonally polarized transverse eigenmodes, namely, a quasi-locked state Otsuka (2018 Laser Phys. Lett. 15 075001), is performed in terms of the amplitude correlation coefficient and intensity circulation among various orthogonally polarized mode pairs. Polarization-dependent symmetry-breaking featuring a nonreciprocal intensity flow for different orthogonally polarized mode pairs operating in the BSW state are found. The singular state is hidden in a nonlinear system where a perfect mode-locked BSW state with a large amplitude correlation coefficient featuring reciprocal intensity flow is established for a transverse mode pair possessing particular polarization directions that are related to the intensity ratio of orthogonally polarized transverse eigenmodes. Self-organized chaos synchronization is shown to take place for such a single pair of transverse modes subjected to self-mixing modulations.

摘要: This paper proposes a dual-band dual-polarization transparent metasurface centered respectively at 2.12 GHz and 4.85 GHz. The unit cell of the proposed metasurface is composed of three metallic layers where two intermediate dielectric layers are sandwiched inbetween. When an incident wave impinges the surface, orthogonal polarizations can be obtained for transmitted waves in the two operation bands. Design details and numerical analysis are presented and discussed.
