Estimation of the particle size distribution of colloids from multiangle dynamic light scattering measurements with particle swarm optimization
摘要: In this paper particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms are applied to estimate the particle size distribution (PSD) of a colloidal system from the average PSD diameters, which are measured by multi-angle dynamic light scattering. The system is considered a nonlinear inverse problem, and for this reason the estimation procedure requires a Tikhonov regularization method. The inverse problem is solved through several PSO strategies. The evaluated PSOs are tested through three simulated examples corresponding to polystyrene (PS) latexes with different PSDs, and two experimental examples obtained by simply mixing 2 PS standards. In general, the evaluation results of the PSOs are excellent; and particularly, the PSO with the Trelea’s parameter set shows a better performance than other implemented PSOs.

A Versatile Dynamic Light Scattering Strategy for the Sensitive Detection of Plant MicroRNAs Based‐on Click Chemistry‐Amplified Aggregation of Gold Nanoparticles
摘要: Plant microRNAs (miRNAs) are naturally 2′-O-methylated at the 3′-terminal, so they cannot be efficiently detected by traditional target-triggered polymerization reactions. Herein, a simple but robust enzyme-free sensing strategy is developed for plant miRNA analysis by using dynamic light scattering (DLS) technique to monitor the click chemical ligation-amplified crosslinking of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Combining the enzyme-free cycling chemical ligation-mediated signal amplification, and the intrinsic outstanding ability of DLS for discriminating the extremely low level of particle aggregation in a large pool of monodisperse AuNPs, high sensitivity is achieved and as low as 78.6 fM plant miRNA can be easily detected.

Determination of Number Density of Particles Together with Measurement of Their Sizes by Dynamic Light Scattering
摘要: A method is proposed for measuring the size of particles in a dynamic light scattering analyzer along with a determination of their number density in suspension. It is shown that this method can be used to measure the parameters of various nanoparticles, including nonspherical ones. An experimental prototype of a dynamic light scattering analyzer for measuring the number density of nanoparticles along with their sizes is described.

摘要: The paper is concerned with the problem of the ill-conditioned task in dynamic light scattering. We briefly review general inverse methods for particle sizing via dynamic light scattering and select the most promising ones. We suggest algorithms for numerical calculations based on variation methods and demonstrate the possibilities of Tikhonov regularization algorithm by using model experiments. The accuracy of the algorithm proves to be in good agreement with the demands of biomedical experiments.

Sequential Growth of High Quality Sub-10 nm Core-Shell Nanocrystals: Understanding the Nucleation and Growth Process Using Dynamic Light Scattering
摘要: Monodisperse sub-10 nm core-shell nanocrystals have been extensively studied owing to their important applications in catalysis, bioimaging, nanomedicine and so on. In this work, an amorphous shell component-crystallization strategy has been proposed to prepare high quality sub-10 nm NaYF4:Yb/Er@NaGdF4 core-shell nanocrystals successfully via a sequential growth process. Dynamic light scattering technique has been used to investigate the secondary nucleation and growth process of forming the core-shell nanocrystals. The size and morphologies evolution of the core-shell nanocrystals reveal that the secondary nucleation of the shell component is unavoidable after hot-injecting of the shell precursor at high temperature, which followed by dissolution and re-crystallization process (an Ostwald Ripening process) to partially produce the core-shell nanocrystals. The present study demonstrates that the size of seed nanocrystals and the injection temperature of the shell component precursor play a vital role in formation of core-shell nanostructures completely. This work will provide an alternative strategy for precisely controllable fabrication of sub-10nm core-shell nanostructures for various applications.
