    摘要: In the automotive industry weight and volume are important issues to design power electronics besides costs. With the upcoming of wide band-gap devices like Gallium Nitride (GaN) devices high switching frequencies become a potential for converters. Operating at high switching frequencies reduces the volume of passive components e.g., transformer significantly. Auxiliary supplies or on-board charging systems for electric vehicles are typical areas of application for a reduction of volume and weight. For this kind of application dc-dc converters like a Dual Active Bridge converter can be used. This paper describes a detailed electrical analysis of a compact single phase Dual Active Bridge converter operated at a high switching frequency of 500 kHz at a dc voltage of 400 V on both full bridges to achieve a power transfer of 3.7 kW. In this paper it is shown how a fast switching and compact dual active bridge converter is designed that operates with a high efficiency of about 96% at nominal power.

  • Solar Generation, Storage, and Electric Vehicles in Power Grids: Challenges and Solutions with Coordinated Control at the Residential Level

    摘要: Solar energy is an abundant renewable energy source that is available all around the world every day. each hour, the solar rays that reach our earth (if properly converted to electricity and other forms of energy) represent more than the total energy consumption of the entire human race over the course of one year. wind energy is another important renewable resource available in large amounts every day. these two renewable energy sources are attracting significant investment as countries seek technology cost reductions to aid sustainability. improvements in the conversion and use of larger fractions of solar and wind energy would help in terms of supply security and satisfying societal energy needs for decades and even centuries to come without adding high levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases to the environment. therefore, in several energy markets (such as in brazil, norway, germany, england, and australia), governments and regulators are emphasizing the need to increase the deployment of solar and wind energy sources as well as other measures to enhance monitoring, pricing, and control mechanisms in modern power grids.

  • Recovering the “new twin”: Analysis of secondary neodymium sources and recycling potentials in Europe

    摘要: Sustainable management strategies for securing long–term supply of rare earth elements is priority for Europe due to a complex and interlinked production chain and its dependence on Chinese export. Among rare earth elements, neodymium captured most attention due to its essential role in a wide spectrum of applications including green–energy technologies such as wind turbines and electric vehicles. Being complementary to primary production, end–of–life recycling would diversify neodymium supply, relieve the Chinese dominance on primary production and contrast the balance problem. However, neodymium recycling at end–of–life is not yet in place. In this work, we developed a dynamic material ?ow model to investigate neodymium stocks and ?ows in the EU–28 to 2016. The analysis enabled a detailed investigation of secondary sources of neodymium, which set essential boundary conditions for material recovery and recycling. We found that roughly up to 50% of the annual neodymium demand in the EU–28 could be met by domestic secondary supply, if latent recycling potentials were turned into actual capacity. Signi?cant energy savings and GHG emissions cut could be also attained. However, product design, end–of–life collection, and scrap price issues are primary obstacles to neodymium recovery. Thus, unless going beyong those limits, establishing and maintaining a sustainable recycling chain for neodymium in the EU–28 will remain problematic.

    摘要: Automobiles were invented in 18th century, it was categorized based on fuel, propulsion and later it was categorized by its exterior looks. During 18th century internal combustion engines used hydrogen as its fuel and then later on gasoline/diesel engines were invented. By 20th century the need for electric vehicles increased as there was scarcity of fossil fuel, increase in carbon emissions because of internal combustion engines and also other harmful effects causing to the environment. Electric vehicles has limited range per complete charge, which created a necessity to develop new energy sources to power the electric motors and there is huge demand for newer methods in order to increase the range and the power of electric vehicle’s which has lead to the development of hybrid vehicles. In this paper the development of hybrid vehicles, its types and many other futuristic concepts would be discussed.
