  • Annual performance analysis and optimization of a solar tower aided coal-fired power plant

    摘要: The integration of solar energy into coal-fired power plants has been proven as a potential approach in the utilization of solar energy to reduce coal consumption. Moreover, solar augmentation offers low cost and low risk alternatives to stand-alone solar thermal power plants. In this study, the annual performance of a solar tower aided coal-fired power (STACP) system is investigated, and the influence of thermal storage system capacity on the annual solar generating power and annual solar-to-electricity efficiency is explored. The thermal storage system capacity is optimized to obtain the lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE). At the same time, the influence and sensitivity of several important economic factors are explored and assessed. Results demonstrate that compared to a coal-fired power system, the reduction in the annual average coal consumption rate of the STACP system with high direct normal irradiance (DNI), medium DNI, and low DNI are 5.79, 4.52, and 3.22 g/kWh, respectively. At a minimum, the annual coal consumption can be reduced by 14,000 t in a 600 MWe power generation unit. Because the same solar field is considered under different DNI conditions, the LCOE in the high DNI, medium DNI, and low DNI scenarios are all fairly similar (6.37, 6.40, and 6.41 ¢/kWh, respectively). When the solar multiple is 3.0, the optimal thermal storage capacity of the STACP system, with high, medium, and low DNIs are 6.73, 4.42, and 2.21 h, respectively. The sensitivity analysis shows that the change in economic parameters exerts more influence on the STACP system with the high DNI compared with the other two scenarios.

  • Ferroelectric ordering and energy storage capacity in lead-free Ba(Zr <sub/>0.2</sub> Ti <sub/>0.8</sub> )O <sub/>3</sub> nanoscale film capacitors fabricated using pulsed laser deposition technique

    摘要: Dielectric thin film capacitors, storing large charge density, are useful in electric energy storing devices. Highly oriented lead-free BaZr0.20Ti0.80O3 (BZT20) thin films were grown on a conducting bottom layer La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 deposited on a MgO (100) substrate under an oxygen atmosphere using a pulsed laser deposition technique. X-ray diffraction studies indicate that BZT20 films were stabilized in a (100) oriented tetragonal phase. Microstructural studies on thin films indicate a smooth film (a roughness of ~1.25 nm) with a thickness of around 320 nm. The structural sensitive A1(TO2) Raman band exhibits a discontinuous change across the tetragonal-cubic phase transition temperature Tc ~ 275 K. The appearance of the broad Raman band in the cubic (Pm?3m) phase at an elevated temperature suggests the activation of symmetry forbidden Raman active bands. The temperature dependent band frequency and integrated intensity of the structural sensitive A1(TO2) band show anomaly across Tc. Temperature dependent dielectric studies (100–650 K) carried out in a wide range of frequencies 102–106 Hz on a fabricated Pt/BZT20/LSMO metal-insulator-metal capacitor suggest a broad dispersive peak of around 290 K. The polarization relaxation follows the Vogel-Fulcher relation with an activation energy of Ea = 0.047 eV and a freezing temperature of Tf = 246 K. The slim polarization P-E loops with a remanent polarization of ~89.6 μC/cm2 and an EC value of ~0.29 MV/cm were observed, suggesting its local ferroelectric ordering in corroboration with Raman and dielectric findings. From the P-E loop analysis, a large energy storage density of 31.9 J/cm3 and an energy storage efficiency of 56% were obtained. Our experimental results revealed that the BZT20 thin film capacitors have potential for energy storage device applications.

  • Photovoltaic active power control based on BESS smoothing

    摘要: The power fluctuation of photovoltaic (PV) is harmful to power systems, so the battery energy storage system (BESS) was applied to smooth power fluctuation in PV. At present, the main ways to get configuration of BESS are low-pass filter and spectrum compensation, which have some drawbacks. In this paper, a method that combines empirical mode decomposition (EMD) with wavelet analysis (WA) is proposed to get grid-connected active power expectation of PV properly. Based on simulation of PV output, the minimum sizing of BESS is determined by different batteries’ state-of-charging (SOC) and efficiency. Comparing traditional low-pass filter and spectrum compensation, this method not only acquires the capacity of BESS accurately, but also improves the effect to smoothing power fluctuation of PV effectively. Finally, a case is proposed to verify correctness of the theory.
