Fast-curing halogen-free flame-retardant epoxy resins and their application in glass fiber-reinforced composites
摘要: A series of novel fast-curing halogen-free flame-retardant epoxy resins were formulated and used to prepare glass fiber-reinforced composites. Dynamic mechanical analysis showed that the optimized epoxy system could be completely cured in 0.5 h at 150°C and had a glass transition temperature (Tg) of above 130°C. The optimized epoxy system was also used as matrix resin to make glass fiber prepregs and composite panels. The flame-retardant properties of the glass fiber-reinforced composites were investigated, including the limiting oxygen index (LOI) and flaming, smoke and toxicity properties. The glass fiber-reinforced composite had good flame retardancy with a UL-94 V-1 rating and high LOI of ≥36%. More significantly, the composite based on the flame-retardant epoxy resin showed lower smoke density compared with those based on phenolic resins. Finally, the glass fiber prepregs were used to fabricate honeycomb sandwich composites. The peel strength of the epoxy-based composites was almost twice that of the composites based on phenolic resin.

Some kinds of die attach materials are alternative resins, epoxy adhesive, soft soldering, die attach solders and silver-glass material. In this study focuses to review epoxy adhesive material in die attach process.

摘要: To enable the continued development of power transmission cabling, an understanding of the processes which result in their failures is essential. In order to do so, powerful analysis techniques are required. However, those which consider chemical degradation are lagging behind those for visible degradation. This paper presents the Atomic Force Microscopy - Infrared Spectroscopy (AFM-IR) chemical analysis technique, which can provide surface chemical analysis with resolution of ~50 nm across the infrared spectrum. Two cases are considered: interfacial tracking between epoxy and silicone rubber, and the degraded region formed in front of a needle tip in the electrical tree initiation process. The results obtained using AFM-IR are compared to the outcomes from other techniques. It is found that AFM-IR offers a unique and powerful insight into visible and non-visible degradation of solid dielectrics.

Stress field around graphene nanoplates coated carbon fiber strand reinforced in polymer matrix
摘要: Photoelasticity method was used to map the stress field around the graphene nanoplates (GnPs) coated carbon fiber strand reinforced in a polymer matrix. Carbon fiber strand (0.4 mm diameter, containing 40 carbon fibers) was considered. The composite was subjected to diametrical compression. The models were loaded under partial edge compression having 0o, 45o and 90o orientation of fiber strand with respect to loading axis. Typical isochromatic fringe patterns were observed using circular polariscope which indicated that GnPs coated carbon fiber strand inferred the direction of isochromatics. Stress concentration near the fiber region was observed. The isochromatics were slightly bent towards fiber strand which showed the strong adhesion of fiber strand with the polymer matrix. The fringe order calculated from orthotropic Mohr’s circle relevance of fringe order was different from isotropic fringe order. The isochromatic fringe pattern for composite with 0o fiber orientation was almost similar to pure epoxy. This showed that the compressive behavior of fabricated 0o oriented GnPs coated carbon fiber strand composite was almost similar to pure epoxy. The calculated values of stresses at the center of the disc showed that composite with 0o orientation of fiber strand was most effective in stress sharing. The calculation of stress fringe value for 45o orientation of fiber strand showed that aligning fiber strand at 45o doesn’t represent the case of pure shear in fiber reinforced composites. Method for Combined Observation of Serial Sections of Stented Arteries Embedded in Resin by Light Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy
摘要: We have developed a new method for obtaining information on whole tissues by light microscopy (LM) and ultrastructural features by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). This method uses serial sections of a stented artery embedded in resin. Stents were implanted in porcine coronary arteries in this study. The heart was perfusion fixed in a 2% paraformaldehyde and 1.25% glutaraldehyde mixed solution. The stented artery was then removed, fixed in 1% osmium, embedded in Quetol 651 resin, and sectioned serially. For LM, the black color of osmium was removed from the section by immersion in periodic acid and hydrogen peroxide after deplasticization. These sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and Elastica–Masson trichrome stain. For TEM, thin sections were re-embedded in Quetol 812 resin by the resupinate method and cut into ultrathin sections. A clear, fine structure was obtained, and organelles, microvilli, and cell junctions in the endothelium were easily observed. The combined observation of adjacent specimens by LM and TEM enabled us to relate histopathological changes in the millimeter scale to those in the nanometer scale.

Synergistic effect of Ag and ZnO nanoparticles on polyaniline incorporated epoxy/2pack coatings for splash zone applications
摘要: In this work, epoxy/2pack coatings containing polyaniline (PANI) in combination with Ag and ZnO nanoparticles have been synthesized. The nanoparticles were incorporated with bisphenol-A diglycidyl ether epoxy resin and polyamino-amide. The mechanical properties of the fabricated coatings, such as the pendulum hardness, scratch resistance, and impact strength, were studied. The composition of the fabricated coatings was confirmed by attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy measurements. The thermal degradation and indentations were characterized through the use of differential scanning calorimetry and nano-indentation techniques, respectively. The surface morphology of the fabricated coatings was characterized using field-emission scanning electron microscopy. The synergistic effects of the Ag and ZnO nanoparticles on the corrosion resistance of the coatings after different exposure periods in 3.5% NaCl solutions were determined by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. All the results were consistent with one another and confirmed that the addition of Ag and ZnO nanoparticles improved the mechanical properties of the coatings. This effect also led to a notable increase in the corrosion resistance of the PANI coatings.

Fabrication of UV-curable solvent-free epoxy modified silicone resin coating with high transparency and low volume shrinkage
摘要: A type of solvent-free transparent epoxy modified silicone resin coating with high transparency and low volume shrinkage was produced by UV curing method. The features of the UV curing process were studied. The performances of the silicone coating obtained such as transparency, thermal stability and the volume shrinkage were also investigated in detail, which expressed that the materials obtained were with good thermal stability, good adhesive ability and fairly low volume shrinkage.

A novel reduced graphene oxide/epoxy sandwich structure composite film with thermo-, electro- and light-responsive shape memory effect
摘要: Development of multi-responsive shape recovery polymers and their composites is critical and has great potential. In this study, a novel reduced graphene oxide (RGO)/water-borne epoxy (WEP)/RGO sandwich structure composite film was fabricated and investigated. The results showed that the composite film exhibited excellent thermo-, electro- and light-responsive shape memory effect, which has potential applications for the sensors, switching devices, deployable structures, and medical apparatus.

EXPRESS: Potentialities of a Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy Technique in the Study of Polymer Composites
摘要: A laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) technique was used to evaluate the filler content in particulate epoxy–copper composites. A potential application for a direct and fast measurement of the filler in composites through the LIBS results is suggested using calibrated samples. The methodology used in this work makes possible the incorporation of LIBS as a quantitative technique for the study of particle metal filled epoxy composites, providing a method to obtain a direct estimation of the filler volume fraction.

Microencapsulation of energy conversion photochromic materials with epoxy resin shell by interfacial polymerization
摘要: In this study, a novel type of photochromic spirooxazine microcapsule was prepared by interfacial polymerization between epoxy resin and polyamine compound. The effects of different process parameters on the formation, microstructure and performance of microcapsules, such as curing reaction temperature, emulsification shear rate and the addition of silica nanoparticles were studied in this paper. The morphology, microstructure, diameter and distribution, as well as the thermal stability of microencapsulated photochromic spirooxazine were also investigated by field emission scanning electron microscope, laser particle size analyzer and thermogravimetric analysis systematically. In addition, the photochromic performance of microcapsule was studied as well.
