    摘要: This paper presents a comparison of two mathematical models of photovoltaic modules, namely: a Real Photovoltaic model and an Improved Photovoltaic Model. These models were evaluated to test their accuracy and predict electrical performance, for the purpose of selecting the suitable model under arid climate conditions. An experimental study using two PV technologies mounted in an outdoor setting, namely amorphous silicon (a-Si) and polycrystalline, is then conducted to validate the mathematical model. Results show a good agreement between experiment and simulation using the improved model for the both PV technologies that adequate to simulate the PV production of two technologies under arid climate, a with good coefficient of determination equaling 0.9672 for the polycrystalline and 0.9957 for amorphous technology. This validation represents a useful tool for researchers in this field and for professional use cases in this location.

  • Characteristics analysis of the photovoltaic thermal heat pump system on refrigeration mode: An experimental investigation

    摘要: Photovoltaic thermal heat pump technology stands for the combination of solar heat pump technology and a photovoltaic system, which has the characteristics of tri-generation (heating, cooling, and electricity) to meet the building's energy requirement. In this paper, the dual-use photovoltaic thermal heat pump system was used and investigated experimentally with an emphasis on the refrigeration mode, which with the feature of the novel roll-bond photovoltaic thermal unit working as condenser directly. Moreover, renewable energy such as solar radiation and long-wave radiation are the main energy source of this system. The experimental investigation of the system comprising; 4 roll-bond photovoltaic thermal units, 1 horsepower heat pump unit and 600 L ice storage tank was carried out. The performance evaluation method and uncertainty analysis of the system was proposed and implemented along with the examination on the refrigeration performance and operating characteristics of the system. The results indicate that the proposed photovoltaic thermal heat pump system can achieve the refrigeration for building space cooling demand in summer with high performance and long-term stable operation. This study could provide a valuable reference for the photovoltaic thermal heat pump multi-generation system design and large-scale practical application in northern China.

    摘要: This paper experimentally evaluates the performance of visible light communications (VLC) systems employing phosphor-coated white light emitting diodes (LEDs). Phosphor-coated white LEDs though widely used commercially, are known to limit the system’s maximum data rate. Such a limitation is conventionally treated by two methods: either adding a blue filter at the receiver or using orthogonal frequency multiplexing (OFDM) digital modulation technique. Adding a blue filter at the receiver is controversial in current literature and claimed to decrease the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) or to be inefficient if OFDM is employed. Hence, in this work, we experimentally evaluate the above OFDM based VLC system with and without a blue filter. Results are compared to prove that adding a blue filter at the receiver boosts SNR and bit-error-rate (BER) values. This, in turn, helps maximize the data rates supported by such systems. The addition of a blue filter is tested with different modulation techniques. Results in this work remove the controversy around employing a blue filter in OFDM based VLC systems with phosphor-coated white LEDs. Improved BERs and SNRs at high data rates are observed. Specifically, this experimental work demonstrates a BER enhancement of ~40% and ~15% for data rates up to 12 Mbps when a blue filter is added.

  • Photovoltaic Roof Tiles: The Influence of Heat Recovery on Overall Performance

    摘要: A photovoltaic (PV) roof tile serves both as a roofing material and as an electricity-producing surface. The main aim of the present study was to increase the overall system efficiency of PV tiles by using heat recovery. The chosen strategy was two-fold: determine the operational efficiency of PV tiles and optimize construction to increase the cooling effect when using air as the working medium. A detailed experimental study was undertaken to determine these effects. The results indicated that a combined electrical and thermal efficiency of 24% could be reached. This is promising and proves the potential for air to be the working medium in such systems. Moreover, this shows a direction for future system optimization.

  • A comparison of lighting control strategies for open offices

    摘要: Providing environmental control to users in multi-user offices has long being considered not done. One of the reasons is it was believed that personal control in an open office would rather create conflict among office users than bring benefits. However, a number of experimental studies conducted to explore the experience of personal control of lighting in open offices start building empirical evidence that can help more informed decision-making. This paper presents the results of the second field experiment conducted as part of a larger study exploring the experience of personal control in a multi-user open office context. The experiment showed that despite users having diverse lighting preferences, provision of control even in a multi-user office resulted in a higher satisfaction with the lighting environment than in an office with a fixed light level. The study evaluated three personal control strategies. The results did not deliver evidence of benefits of the control strategy “control set-point” in which the user selected light level was treated as a set-point for daylight regulation. The results showed that when the system remembered the last level set by the user it resulted in a smaller amount of user actions executed using personal control and the resulting lighting conditions in the office better reflected individual preferences compared to the “forgetting” strategy in which the system was resetting overnight to its default state. The results were significant only with respect to satisfaction with daylight in favor of the system remembering the user set light level.

    摘要: An exponential increase in the number of smart mobile devices with high demands of wireless data traffic is driving Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) toward high-density deployments and millimeter-wave (mmWave) operations. Inter-link interference is a crucial factor in such systems, which impacts on the link performance and system capacity. However, it has not been well-investigated yet. We conducted a measurement campaign on inter-link interference in a meeting room environment with dense deployment of mmWave WLANs. Some key impact factors, such as the beamwidths and positions of transmitter and receiver as well as the number of active links in a network, were investigated. Our measurement results demonstrate that the decrease of the beamwidths of transmitter and receiver and/or the decrease of the number of active links in the network can significantly improve the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) due to reduction of the inter-link interference. Furthermore, it is observed that the inter-link interference in a dense deployment environment mainly depends on a few dominated active links.
