    摘要: Humans process high volumes of visual information to perform everyday tasks. In a reaching task, the brain estimates the distance and position of the object of interest, to reach for it. Having a grasp intention in mind, human eye-movements produce specific relevant patterns. Our Gaze-Contingent Intention Decoding Engine uses eye-movement data and gaze-point position to indicate the hidden intention. We detect the object of interest using deep convolution neural networks and estimate its position in a physical space using 3D gaze vectors. Then we trigger the possible actions from an action grammar database to perform an assistive movement of the robotic arm, improving action performance in physically disabled people. This document is a short report to accompany the Gaze-contingent Intention Decoding Engine demonstrator, providing details of the setup used and results obtained.

    摘要: It is proposed the implementation of a methodology for the analysis and classification of large volumes of records. It is studied and evaluated the application of DM as a tool to analysis qualitatively and quantitatively the register obtained by an eye movement tracking device, eye-tracking, when bring under to people with different levels of orthographic knowledge (OK: High, Medium and Low), in the face of two tasks; (i) detection of spelling error and (ii) in the detection of a simple character, in the brief exposure (1500 milliseconds) of words without and with misspelling. It used some analytical procedure series of DM such as: the search for response patterns; the creation of secondary variables; the use of classification of trees and grouping the data (k-means). New models were created as of the distance between the position of the spelling error and the position of the gaze of the participants. Differences in the visual attention were found between the participants; in the same way, it was observed that the misspelling influences the performance of the task (ii), diverting visual attention to spelling error, in the participants with High OK. It is concluded that the DM helps to find the particularities of eye movements from large volumes of data that generates eye-tracking, which cannot be analysed with simple procedures.

    摘要: Improved technological possibilities continue to increase the significance of operational monitoring in air traffic control (ATC). The role of the air traffic controller (ATCO) will change in that they will have to monitor the operations of an automated system for failures. In order to take over control when automation fails, future ATCOs will need to be trained. While current ATC training is mainly based on performance indicators, this study will focus on the benefit of using eye tracking in future ATC training. Utilizing a low-fidelity operational monitoring task, a model of how attention should be allocated in case of malfunction will be derived. Based on this model, one group of ATC novices will receive training on how to allocate their attention appropriately (treatment). The other group will receive no training (control). Eye movements will be recorded to investigate how attention is allocated and if the training is successful. Performance measures will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the training.

  • Predictive remapping of visual features beyond saccadic targets

    摘要: Visual stability is thought to be mediated by predictive remapping of the relevant object information from its current, presaccadic location to its future, postsaccadic location on the retina. However, it is heavily debated whether and what feature information is predictively remapped during the presaccadic interval. Here we examined the spatial and featural properties of predictive remapping in a set of three psychophysical studies. We made use of an orientation-adaptation paradigm, in which we induced a tilt aftereffect by prolonged exposure to an oriented adaptor stimulus. Following this adaptation phase, a test stimulus was presented shortly before saccade onset. We found strong evidence for predictive remapping of the features of this test stimulus presented shortly before saccade onset, evidenced by a large tilt aftereffect elicited when the adaptor was positioned at the postsaccadic retinal location of the test stimulus. Conversely, the adaptation state itself, caused by the exposure to the adaptor stimulus, was not predictively remapped. Furthermore, we establish that predictive remapping also occurs for stimuli that are not saccade targets, pointing toward a forward remapping process operating across the whole visual field. Together, our findings suggest that predictive feature remapping of object information plays an important role in mediating visual stability.

    摘要: In this research, we use eye tracking to monitor the attentional behavior of pilots in the cockpit. We built a cockpit monitoring database that serves as a reference for real-time assessment of the pilot’s monitoring strategies, based on numerous flight simulator sessions with eye-tracking recordings. Eye tracking may also be employed as a passive input for assistive system, future studies will also explore the possibility to adapt the notifications’ modality using gaze.

  • Long pulse millisecond pumped high-average-power linearly polarized single Nd:YAG rod laser

    摘要: Human sensitivity to changes in luminance or chromaticity differ as a function of temporal or spatial frequency. Luminance sensitivity is band-pass in shape, while chromatic sensitivity curves are low-pass, along both L–M cone opponent (red–green) and S-cone opponent (blue–yellow) axes, where L, M, and S refer to the long-wavelength middle-wavelength and short-wavelength sensitive cones. Temporal sensitivity curves are supported by the magnocellular pathway for luminance, the parvocellular pathway for L–M modulation and the koniocellular pathway for S-cone modulation. This division largely holds for spatial contrast sensitivity. But there are discrepancies. For example, parvo and konio cells respond to higher temporal and spatial frequencies than can be perceived. Also, the role of eye movements in spatial contrast sensitivity – and spatial vision as a whole – is now debated; the spatial and temporal properties of eye movements profoundly influence the spatiotemporal signal leaving the retina. Finally, human psychophysical thresholds for color and luminance seem largely independent. Yet recent cortical data show much combination of magno, parvo, and konio signals in the cortex. This oddity remains puzzling but may have to do with the segregation of different types of information into dorsal and ventral cortical streams.

  • Neuroergonomics || Why is Eye Tracking an Essential Part of Neuroergonomics?

    摘要: Neuroergonomics generally promotes the use of brain imaging techniques or electroencephalography to measure the neural mechanisms underpinning human performance in complex real-life situations, so eye tracking is not the first type of neuroergonomics method that comes to mind. Why bring eye movements and pupillary changes into neuroergonomics? Human vision is tightly coupled to a majority of our activities, and vision provides the brain with a wealth of information. It is difficult, though not impossible, to imagine, for example, an aircraft pilot with visual impairment. The eyes are an important mediator between the environment and the brain, facilitating interaction with our everyday world. Our eyes constantly move to direct our foveas (the small region of the central retina that has highest visual acuity) to objects of interest. Light passes through the pupil to the retina, which then nervates to the brain. Importantly, the retina is a part of the embryonic diencephalon that progressively evolves into a complex connection using several neural pathways to support visual perception and attentional orientation. Hence eye tracking, though an indirect measure of brain activity, is in a way the technique that measures with the closest proximity to the brain–the retina is in fact the only part of the brain visible (e.g., to an optometrist) by the naked eye.
