    摘要: This paper presents a comparitive study of ring oscillators (RO) using amorphous Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (a-IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) to implement on-chip clock generator for flexible electronic systems. A five-stage RO has been implemented with different inverter topologies using IGZO TFTs, which includes Diode connected load, Capacitive bootstrapping (BS), Pseudo-CMOS and Pseudo-CMOS bootstrapping architectures. These topologies have been simulated using in-house IGZO TFT models under similar conditions using different power supplies (10 V, 15 V and 20 V) in cadence environment. Among all architechtures Capacitive bootstrapping RO has ensured highest frequency of operation in the order of MHz and an output swing of 82% of VDD. Whereas, Pseudo-CMOS based RO provides the lowest power consumption in the order of μW with an output swing of 57% of VDD. On the other hand, the combination of Pseudo CMOS and bootstrapping has ensured highest voltage swing of 95% of VDD. In terms of power delay product (PDP) BS RO is superior with respect to other topologies. This work provides a clear insight to the designer to choose a particular topology for given application, mainly for on-chip clock generation for flexible electronic systems based on the requirements.

  • Fuzzy neural network vibration control on a piezoelectric flexible hinged plate using stereo vision detection

    摘要: Vibration control on a two-connected piezoelectric flexible hinged plate is investigated, using a fuzzy neural network algorithm based on binocular vision measurement. As for vision sensing, a method to acquire vibration signals of the low frequency bending and torsional mode is investigated. To damp out the residual vibration quickly, the fuzzy neural network is applied to ensure the stability and control effect adaptively. To verify the stereo vision measurement method and the applied controller, an experimental setup of the piezoelectric flexible hinged plate with a binocular stereo vision is constructed. Experiments are conducted by using the binocular stereo vision measurement system and the adopted controller. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the visual measurement method. Furthermore, the designed fuzzy neural network can attenuate the bending and torsional vibrations quickly, in comparison with proportional and derivative control, particularly for the small-level residual vibration.

    摘要: A paper based carbon-FET (C-FET) was developed with graphite as channel. The performance of the fabricated C-FET was enhanced by embedding Si nanoparticles (SiNP) with the graphite. Initially, graphite was brush coated on paper substrate by mechanically rubbing a graphite source to fabricate the channel. However, to embed SiNP, the graphite was brush coated in presence of SiNPs, which formed graphite-SiNP composite and improved the performance of the device. It was observed that due to the presence of SiNP, the effect of gate voltage was improved approximately by a factor of four. The device was operated in back gate configuration with the paper as the dielectric material. Effect of loading of SiNP was also checked and it was found that the performance of the device improved with increase in SiNP loading. Thus, a carbon-FET was demonstrated with flexible substrate, which can be useful for different sensing and flexible electronic applications. Further, it was also observed that the performance of the C-FET was improved by adding semiconducting SiNPs. This approach of fabricating flexible paper based C-FETs are expected to be applied in the development of economical, replaceable, environment friendly, and disposable biomedical or point-of-care (POC) instruments, sensors, wearable and flexible electronic devices which will be affordable for a larger section of society.

  • Smartphone capture of flexible laryngoscopy: Optics, subsite visualization, and patient satisfaction

    摘要: Objective: To determine whether a smartphone adaptor can record laryngoscopic videos of adequate quality for clinical diagnosis and communication among otolaryngologists and assess the impact of recorded exams on patient satisfaction. Methods: Twenty adult inpatients undergoing flexible laryngoscopy in a tertiary care medical center were prospectively enrolled. Each subject's larynx was visualized with the standard laryngoscope eyepiece and with an attached mobile phone adaptor with video recording capabilities. A 5-point Likert scale was used by the resident performing the scope to grade the adaptor and eyepiece exams. The same scale was used by an offsite otolaryngology attending to grade the adaptor video. Patients were shown the video, and a satisfaction survey was administered. Results: In all patients, the adaptor was easy to use and required minimal setup. Ninety percent of patients reported an increase in satisfaction after watching the video of their exam. The eyepiece was superior to the adaptor in resolution, focus, color fidelity, brightness, and optical fluidity (P < 0.05). The video recording was deemed sufficient for clinical assessment in 90% of cases. The offsite reviewer determined that there would be 'little' (15%) or 'no value' (65%) in repeating the scope exam in the majority of patients. The laryngeal subsites were equally visible with the eyepiece and the adaptor ('full view,' 85%–100%). Conclusion: Laryngoscopy videos recorded by a portable smartphone adaptor are sufficient for clinical evaluation in the majority of cases. This technology may improve patient satisfaction and communication among clinicians.

  • Exfoliation of graphite as flexible SERS substrate with high dye adsorption capacity for Rhodamine 6G

    摘要: Adsorption is one of the most important processes in wastewater treatment, especially for dye removal. In addition to adsorption, there must be a vigilant technique, such as Surface Enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), for detection of low concentration of dye molecules to detect water foiling. Herein, we report a simple, low cost, rapid and e?cient technique for the production of exfoliated graphite (EG) under microwave irradiation at 800 W in 1 min, as excellent adsorption material for Rhodamine 6G (R6G) dye. The e?ect of adsorption process parameters such as pH, contact time, isotherm models (Langmuir and Freundlich) and kinetic models (pseudo-?rst and pseudo-second-order) on dye removal under aqueous solutions, were investigated. The maximum adsorption capacity for R6G dye is 212.72 ( ± 5.3) mg/g. Meanwhile compressing of EG, into a ?exible graphite sheet (FGS) demonstrates responsive SERS for R6G molecules up to detection limit of 10?7 mol/L. However, with silver nanoparticle incorporation, the detection limit increases up to 10?12 mol/L. Performance of ?exible sheet checked over a month by rubbing sheet through paper and cloth doesn’t have any impact on the synthesis of exfoliated graphite. Aging factor of the sheet also shows reproducible SERS spectra after a month. These are the highest reported values till today, for adsorption of R6G dye on Exfoliated graphite, with reasonable SERS detection.

  • Generalized optimization method for energy conversion and storage efficiency of nanoscale flexible piezoelectric energy harvesters

    摘要: The energy conversion and storage efficiency was commonly ignored in experimental studies on nanoscale flexible piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEHs). In this study, we develop a generalized theoretical method to optimize the energy conversion and storage efficiencies of nanoscale flexible PEHs. The results are validated by comparisons with experimental measurements for various ambient excitations. A simple scaling law is established to reveal the intrinsic correlation between the efficiency of energy conversion/storage and various system parameters of the PEHs. For either the energy conversion or storage circuit, the output power density may be maximized by properly designing an intrinsic normalized parameter. Furthermore, we demonstrate that an independent optimization criterion is indispensable for standard storage circuits since including a storage module into the conversion circuit redefines the electromechanical behavior of the PEH system. The results may be used as guidelines for optimizing the energy conversion and storage efficiencies of nanoscale flexible PEHs that have promising applications in harvesting biomechanical energies.

  • Fabrication of the infrared variable emissivity electrochromic film based on polyaniline conducting polymer

    摘要: In this study, camphorsulfonic acid (CSA)-doped polyaniline (PANI) films have been prepared on the surface of an Au/nylon 66 porous flexible substrate by electrochemical deposition. The feature of the research was that utilize an Au layer deposited onto a porous flexible substrate to deposite CSA-doped PANI film for modulation infrared emissivity at first time. The morphology of Au/nylon 66 flexible substrate and PANI films and the electrochromic properties of CSA-doped PANI film were investigated in detail to obtain a PANI film that possesses highly infrared modulation ability. The emissivity variation Δε was achieved as of 0.225, 0.399, and 0.426 in the wavelength ranges of 3–5, 8–12, and 2.5–25 μm, respectively. The switching times of the CSA doped-PANI film for the coloration and bleaching are 6 s and 2.5 s, respectively. The IR electrochromic film investigated in this work may find an application in IR devices for IR camouflage and thermal control.

  • Copper Nanowire Dispersion through an Electrostatic Dispersion Mechanism for High-Performance Flexible Transparent Conducting Films and Optoelectronic Devices

    摘要: Highly dispersed copper nanowire (CuNW) is an essential prerequisite for its practical application in various electronic devices. At present, the dispersion of CuNW is almost realized through the steric hindrance effect of polymers. However, the high post-treatment temperature of polymers makes this dispersion mechanism impractical for many actual applications. Here, after investigating the relationships between the electrostatic dispersion force and influence factors, an electrostatic dispersion mechanism is refined by us. Under the guidance of this mechanism, high dispersion of CuNW and a record low post-treatment temperature (80 ℃ ) are realized simultaneously. The high dispersity endows CuNW with good stability (–45.66 mV) in water-based ink, high uniformity (65.7 ± 2.5 Ω sq-1) in the prepared transparent conducting film (TCF) (23 cm × 23 cm) and industrial film-preparation process which are the issues that hinder the widespread application of CuNW-based TCF at present. The low post-treatment temperature makes CuNW possible for applying on any substrate. In addition, the charge modifier, 2-mercaptoethanol, enables CuNW to resist oxidation well. Finally, flexible optoelectronic devices employing the CuNW film as the electrode are fabricated and show efficiencies comparable to those of optoelectronic devices on ITO/glass.

    摘要: A low-temperature, wet-chemical process for the synthesis of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) films on large area, transparent, flexible substrates were developed and its application to ammonia detection at room temperature were demonstrated. The carboxyl groups were attached in the sidewalls of carbon nanotubes due to wet-chemical process which helps to improve the sensor performance. The transmittance measurement showed that the film is ninety percent transparent to visible spectrum with respect to air. Selectivity measurements were also performed. The sensor responses were same for both the fat and bend film. The present SWCNTs based sensors could potentially be used to develop low cost, flexible, foldable and disposable sensor system for the monitoring of toxic gases like ammonia in environment.

    摘要: This report presents 3D printed flexible coreless transformers, which can be used in RF band for various applications such as voltage conversion and impedance matching for maximizing power transfer. Two types of transformers composed of a pair of coil inductors with opposing and complementary windings were printed on flexible polyimide film by using a 3D printer. Behaviors of printed transformers were simulated with parameters such as mutual inductance, coupling factor, power gain with 3D transformer models. And then, inductance value were compared with measured one.
